How horrifying that a submarine carrying 5 people has gone missing. Apparently there’s only 96 hours of air on the submarine when it sets off. The...

The vast majority of posts on this thread have been well informed and intelligent.

People have asked for clarification so they can understand things they don't know. By and large it's been a good informative thread.

Be a shame if conspiracy loons spoil it now.

Couldn’t agree more.

Within a few days? Don’t be silly. The bodies are still there somewhere, and quite possibly have been seen seen by the ROV, but they have chosen not to release that information yet.

Unfortunately the enormous crushing forces at those depths may have rendered the bodies irrecoverable. The human body is not designed to withstand 400x atmospheric pressure. Maybe leaving them as a dignified burial at sea is the right option.

I can't imagine that people will be queueing up to get on board.

No I wouldn’t have thought so.

Mylifeislikeaboatrace · 22/06/2023 21:12

They should be left in peace.

L13422 · 22/06/2023 21:13

I will be very interested to see what comes out in the following days when specifics start being told. Stuff they don’t want to release now and people coming forward with information. People can do specific animations of what happened, like they have done with the titanic, you can see what happened exactly. Probably going to be an in-depth documentary released in the next couple weeks, hopefully one that calls oceangate out for its negligence.
one thing I thought is that it’s good at least the family can have closure in knowing what happened, unlike the families on the Malaysia flight. Hopefully the families members can have some peace in knowing there was no pain or suffering

NotDavidTennant · 22/06/2023 21:13

If it helps people to understand the implosion, it's equivalent to the sub being put in a car crusher, but where the crushing happens more or less instantaneously.

There won't be much left in the way of remains.

Doris86 · 22/06/2023 21:13

HundredMilesAnHour · 22/06/2023 21:08

Do you not understand what catastrophic implosion means? There are no bodies. Not now, now in a few days, not next month.

Do you not understand there is likely to be at least some trace left? They wouldn’t completely disintegrate and be ‘dissolved’ into to the sea.

We’ll give it a few days to see what else is announced.

I just want to say a big thank you to the very intelligent and knowledgeable posters who have been putting the situation and sub into layman's terms. It has been very useful and informative Smile

No, there won't. It's called physics. People killed in this way essentially become puree, (sorry to others here that I have to get so graphic). Under 4km of water they are then dilute puree.
You know that thing where you're in a hole of your own making? Stop digging.

The one where autopsy’s were doing? Meaning remains were found.

JMAngel1 · 22/06/2023 21:18

I don’t understand why there has to be an investigation? And why have 9 vessels gone down there now potentially putting medical and technical staff lives in danger.

Warmhandscoldheart · 22/06/2023 21:18

It's so sad that the grave of so many has become the grave of more 😢

We let’s just see what they find shall we? Then one of us can accept we are wrong.

Oh Doris, I think you need a lot of help. More help than I have patience to give. Perhaps luckily for you there are other posters on this thread who are patient and will nicely school you rather than tell you what an absolute muppet you are being.

TheTERFnextDoor · 22/06/2023 21:19

Given that there's a few subs/ ROVs down there now, will they use this to collect some bits of the Titanic?

Leastsaidsoonestscrewed · 22/06/2023 21:19

Just stop. "I'm sorry I was wrong". It's not hard, honest.

The underwater search vessels will be unmanned.

The US submarine USS Thresher was believed to have had a catastrophic implosion. There were 100 men on board and no bodies were recovered even though the debris field was found.

I don't think that would be ethical

EnthENd · 22/06/2023 21:20

I won't be surprised either way regarding bodies. It's not the pressure as such that does the damage; the human body withstands water pressure quite well since we're mostly water ourselves. No, what does the damage is the water and hull fragments accelerating across the air gap and hitting the occupants at speed.

The Titanic subreddit have an animation of what an implosion looks like. I realise this may seem bad taste to some (so don't click if it bothers you). But it seems a lot of people are grappling with what an implosion is and the consequences of one so it may be informative as a visual aid.
