I’ll start, McCain frozen jacket potatoes. Supermarket own brand never cook through properly and it’s so handy to just have one in the freezer

Second all those relating to bed/bedding - mattress made of natural fibres, wool duvet, pillows, luxurious bedding. We spend so much time in our bed and really value good quality sleep

More than cost, time expense in cooking from scratch plus the mental load of organising it all. I spend a significant amount of time prepping and planning meals but believe it is worth it in the long run

Also second pp who said decent lightweight kids bikes - both children cycling proper bikes before 4 and I attribute that partly to a decent quality bike. Both now cycle daily

Personal trainer
Bean to cup coffee machine

A good mattress and memory foam pillow.

Our mattress wasn't even that expensive - £500 deal on the Eve. But excellent sleep for six years for 22p a night? I wouldn't even call that expensive.

OGX shampoo - my hair needs washing daily as it gets so greasy (thanks PCOS), I’ve always struggled with shampoos that keep it hydrated without weighing it down and OGX has been a game changer.

First class rail tickets are worth every penny. Also gym gear - cheap stuff shows all the sweat!

Opalex blonde shampoo. When I have used it people often ask if I have been to hairdressers 😊

aliensprig · 21/06/2023 09:09

Everyone on this thread recommending silk bedding / pillows - you're all aware of how silk is made, right? They literally boil the silkworms alive to make the fabric. You're lying on boiled worms. Just FYI. It's insanely cruel.

Private GP. Can always get an appointment within 24 hours and it lasts at least 20 minutes.

Botox by a plastic surgeon as opposed to Botox by Debbie who works at Top2Toe beauty.

Fast Track through airport security and Business Class flights when travelling long haul.

Duresta sofas.

Range Rover Vogue. They don't drive, they glide.

Books from the Folio Society. Objects of beauty in their own right.

Truffle oil. I got some as a gift (requested by me) Christmas 2021. It's so delicious and I still have some left in the bottle. Hoping it will last me until this Christmas!

Oh yes, we only buy those now. Better coffee at home than almost anywhere else!

Mattresses and branded tampons, own brand don't cut it

I'd even go so far as to suggest Tampax Pearl as I've had zero leaks since moving to them. I realise that it's not environmentally friendly to use "use once" products like this but I was having major issues (for me anyway) using alternatives and these really do work!

Iloveanicegarden · 21/06/2023 12:43

First class seats on long haul journeys. It depends on your airline but we've always found benefit even at the 'lower' end

Iloveanicegarden · 21/06/2023 12:49

@aliensprig You don't know much about silk production do you. Clearly you are not laying on boiled worms!! The silk cocoon that they spin is what is used. As the glue that holds the strands together is softened the silk thread is unravelled, treated and used as fibre in the usual way.
I'm not saying it's not cruel or exploitative but get your facts right

heartsinvisiblefury · 21/06/2023 13:04

Buy cheap buy twice is sadly something I learnt after a cheap mattress
