Jack Monroe in court today for CCJ stuff?

Don't know if anyone's been following this but Jack Monroe was supposed to be in court today, don't know the latest?

She hasn't fulfilled patreon rewards for years, taken the money though.
Has asked for donation to her private PayPal for presenter triangle, book donations, website repairing and for a libel case that she never filed.

Court was meant to be at 2pm?

I can't help but think that if someone took Nigella, Jamie etc to court for not sending stuff they were supposed too, more media would be interested? Wonder how Jack avoids scrutiny?

She says she’s not under an obligation to disclose where she donated funds to but wouldn’t you want to do that- for transparency? Especially in light of the accusations against her.

The Jack Monroe obsessives are taking this too far.

A guy took out a one month sub to her Patreon and didn't get the rewards (and I'm assuming he knew she had not fulfilled her rewards so wouldn't get any) and then got a CCJ against her for £10., it's hardly something the media would be interested in.

It definitely has been done maliciously with a whole audience who are hoping to bring her down.

Then why are the media doorstepping Jack?

She tweeted out that she's fled her home because journalists are ringing her door bell.

I’d never heard of CCJs before Jack Monroe. Apparently it’s 6 years before they expire. I know people slag off Tattle but you can learn a lot!

JM is the one saying she has been doorstopped by the media? So which is it? I think people just want some accountability and transparency regarding a significant amount of money they’ve given to her.

i don't think so. But they might over the raising funds for suing an MP.
Think about it. She portrays herself as a left anti Tory activist (all questionable in themselves)
She has 550000 followers.

She tells them all she's suing a Tory and send money to help to her PayPal.
If 10% of them sent her £5, she's raised £275000

Repeat that for other PayPal requests, media training, website fixing etc.

You're talking astronomical amounts of money with no proof it was ever used for anything she said it would be used for.

And that's before we even mention T-shirts beg and Kickstarter and the several GoFundme type things.

It could run into over a million she's conned from people, and that's a story, but I'm not a Journalist.

She's a textbook narc.

Look at the DARVO tactics bring employed. All this rubbish about her son who doesn't even live with her...no matter what she says. He lives with his Dad in the same the as me.

I doubt she is being door stepped by the big media, the local rag maybe but nobody else is going to be bothered, she is not that important.

Oh yes, no doubt the judge will be offering her legal advice next whilst they visit her house for a delicious supper....

It doesn't matter if it was one month or one hundred, she's not delivering.

Had she been doing her job properly and not stealing money from people, no-one would be giving a flying fuck about her and she wouldn't be in this situation.

I really wish someone would make a podcast about all this. The Jack Monroe story. From the very start of the inconsistencies and fibs until now and ongoing.

It would make a good 'This American Life' type of podcast.

She is a grifter.

At the end of the day with her books, newspaper colums, TV appearances, merchandise sales etc you would think she would have been able to climb out of the poverty hole she claimed to be in. For all her life 'hacks' she has been spectacularly bad with her money. I'm sure the bloke going down the CCJ route over the tenner is not doing it to reclaim the tenner but to stop her from ripping off other unsuspecting donors. It's a shame as some if her campaigning has been excellent and that is now being overshadowed by this completely avoidable nonsense.

Do journalists doorstep anymore, especially multiple journalists travelling to Southend.

I’m not sure that the courts are interested in their motives, to be honest. Surely all they are interested in is contract law: Jack Monroe sold me this, I paid for it and I didn’t get what I paid for. After all, the motivations behind buying a Russell Hobbs kettle are immaterial. All the law is interested in here is if Russell Hobbs provided you with the working kettle that you paid for, not if you are secretly a member of Team DeLonghi. Weird analogy, I know 😬

Think it was a premium episode but very much worth subscribing to listen. Bit out of date now though! They'll have to do an update.

All she has to do is stop fucking around with other people's money. If she wasn't doing that then nobody would be able to do what you suggest happened.

i Think they’re making a show of the ‘harassment’ and ‘distress’ around the CCJ to divert from the absolute mess that is raking tens (now hundreds?) of thousands of pounds from people over the past few years and people starting to connect the dots and scrutinise it.

• crowdfunding for a book that ended up going to a publisher anyway - around £60k raised
• monthly Patreon subscriptions where no material or content is given in return, conservative estimate 400 subscriptions at least £5 per month - £2k monthly for at least 2 years
• a t shirt range with some vague figures bandied about for the recipients (Trussel Trust and apparently other unknown local charities that she’d originally asked her followers to suggest) - paid to her PayPal rather than via a fundraising platform
• the libel case that never was against the Tory MP with donations again going to her personal PayPal and staying there for a year. Says she has receipts for everything - seemingly couldn’t refund those who’d donated but has again said that an unknown charity has benefitted, but no other details.

her main argument is that she isn’t obliged to divulge the financial details nor the beneficiaries but:

• surely the charities involved would look to be promoted via her platform of 500k followers
• there is no reason why she should be immune from financial transparency and scrutiny
• she stated herself in a recent Guardian piece that she’d previously misspent thousands of donations, therefore should really be displaying some sense of remorse/changed behaviour now.

The court money went into a private PayPal which she also uses for donations to herself. How would she know which it was for. It sat there for over a year, did she pay tax on that?
some people might have wanted or needed their money back after all this time, she hasn’t given them that option.
why did she hold onto the money and continually lie that the court case was going ahead despite the other parties never being contacted/sent papers.
why didn’t she use a crowdfunding website?
