It might be that the stress of working so hard affected Johnson's memory. Elevated levels of cortisol are known to impair cognitive function. He really was working tremendously hard in very difficult circumstances and having to rally the troops and keep spirits up must have been very challenging.

I realise that many people were in extremely difficult circumstances and working very hard indeed but Johnson was in such an important position he surely deserves to be exempted from some of the rules that apply to ordinary people.

I can't work out if jwg is being a sock puppet and adding more stature.

It's someone aiming for her top spot in providing it

Or someone who's spent too long out in the sun.

Zonder · 13/06/2023 17:11

Well, whatever, Boris is gooooooone! And I live in hope that there's enough sense left somewhere in the Tory party to never let him back in.

Zonder · 13/06/2023 17:25

Interesting, @AuntyBumBum Do you think there's any hope that Brexit was staged? All a complex hoax but it's ok, the big reveal is coming and we will find out we are still in the EU, Johnson was some kind of weird experiment and we can all afford pur leccy bills.

I didn't realise jgw added stature tbh. Not sure what this 'top spot' is that you speak of. Someone goes on about kids parties a trillion times a day and that's stature? Well you learn some new everyday.

Zonder · 13/06/2023 17:32

@Janiie honestly! You actually said on this thread that children could have parties, that they weren't banned. Someone then provided proof in a link of a letter from Johnson about this, and yet you still don't admit you're wrong. So people will keep mentioning the parties as it is a huge sticking point for so many people that Johnson LIED and did what he liked while telling other people to keep the rules. It's that hypocrisy that people find so hard to take. Can you really not see it?

I'm pretty sure that there is a very strong correlation between tendency to think that the moon landings were staged and tendency to vote for brexit.

I did always think that, given the sort of people we're talking about, one solution to save us from the disaster about to engulf us was just to pretend we had left. Very few brexit voters actually knew or understood the difference.

ilovesooty · 13/06/2023 17:40

@Janiie seems so determined to endorse Johnson's lies and hypocrisy she is is incapable of seeing him for what he is.

Interestingly, your link says;
Brits over 55 most likely to believe moon landings really happened.

Why are we talking about Starmer here?

If Starmer doesn't want to be compared to Johnson or Sunak, then he's in the wrong job.

And the best she can offer is picking up a typo and running with that 🙄

Desperate times .......

Sad limpet? That's a bit rude isn't it.

Of course I will be 'gripping onto his defence'. I wasn't convinced by 'impartial' Sue Grey's report nor I'm sure will I be anymore more convinced by what impartial Harman presents.

Rhondaa · 13/06/2023 18:04

'And the best she can offer is picking up a typo and running with that'

Honestly lighten up. I make typos all the it's nothing to get uptight about.

heartsinvisiblefury · 13/06/2023 18:08

Limpets are quite cute - if a bit clingy

Inkanta · 13/06/2023 18:08

Poor Janiie - leave her alone!

heartsinvisiblefury · 13/06/2023 18:10

If only all these Standards Committees had Janiie on them. Run free Boris, run free!!!!

Inkanta · 13/06/2023 18:10

Looks like a bit of a nasty mean girls thread.

I am actually now convinced that certain posters are just taking the piss. There is no other explanation.

Rhondaa · 13/06/2023 18:15

'Sir Bernard Jenkin'

Sir Bernard Jenkin. What him of the cringy tassly bracelet who was at one of Johnson's previous grilling being all snooty and sniffy. Oh yes, he's a big impartial fan isn't he.

TBF to Johnson, Ukraine and the early support he gave to them was a good thing but of course, it was pure opportunism, he saw which way the wind was blowing and charged out in front shouting "follow me!"

He didn't show the same judgement when he allowed Putins money to go into the Tory party.....

Shame he didn't support them when he was foreign secretary. Instead choosing to block aid to Ukraine in favour of courting Russia. First foreign secretary to visit Moscow since they invaded Crimea and pallying up with afterwards. I genuinely believe Putin expected Britain to turn a blind eye to his invasion, he thought Johnson was bought and paid for. He underestimated how utterly self serving Johnson was.

It's hard not to sometimes. The fact remains the whole thing has been constant whipped up smears led by the media and critics.

He has done nothing wrong. Except the gold wallpaper and trusting Cummings.

It's always been obvious.

That's why I generally ignore - or at least don't directly address them.

But I don't agree with the poster who called them mean girls.

They just had an odd sense of humour and different way of amusing themselves than I would choose!
