Have we got one yet?

Yea I know it’s the first proper hot day, but I’m already suffering. I have a splitting headache that painkillers won’t touch. Always happens when it’s hot.

I get heat exhaustion really easily

It's been lovely here today. 25C and a bit of a breeze so not stuffy. I really think different areas have their own microclimates. I also think this "expectation to be out" is a strange British thing. My family have southern European elements and you would no more go out with your toddler at the height of the day's sun than you would in a blizzard. It's normal to seek shelter, drinks etc.

MedievalMadness · 16/06/2023 21:05

DrCoconut. Yes now you mention it, it might be a British thing to feel like you have to be outdoors ‘enjoyIng’ the sun. I feel I’m doing a wrong thing wanting to sit indoors in front of my fan unless I absolutely have to go out and like I’m being a miserable git.

Sloth66 · 16/06/2023 21:44

Horrible sweltering heat here. I’m itching and sneezing.
I always cheer up after the longest day has come and gone. Roll on autumn.

Yep, roll on winter time !
I feel I have to endure the next few months

MeinKraft · 16/06/2023 22:02

Bit cooler here tonight. Nice to have a little break in it without being cold.

fizzyfood · 16/06/2023 22:03

Three storey house, hell on the top floor in the evenings because of the heat!

the80sweregreat · 16/06/2023 22:20

It wasn't as hot today I must admit !
Either this or I might even be getting used to it
Which is unlikely..

Catsmere · 17/06/2023 04:50

I feel so sympathetic to everyone in the northern hemisphere having this atrocious summer! I’m in Australia and a lifetime of filthy hot summers hasn’t made me hate them less - and your buildings are made to cope with cold, not heat, aren’t they? I’d say “virtual hugs” but “virtual cool breezes” might be a better wish …

Soubriquet · 17/06/2023 10:12

I’m finally investing in one of those neck fans. Will definitely come in handy next week for the kids sports day.

@Soubriquet mine arrived this week and its brilliant. I've used it outside and in the house.

Soubriquet · 18/06/2023 15:24

Ugh. Today is horrible. Not only is it hot, it’s muggy hot.

The air feels heavy Sad

the80sweregreat · 18/06/2023 15:26

This is nasty weather today.
Too hot / humid and just horrible

JimnJoyce · 18/06/2023 15:28

just started thundering here

rightioly · 18/06/2023 15:28

It's not even sunny. Just muggy.

I need a thunder storm

willahelmina · 18/06/2023 15:31

We were predicted thundery showers at 3pm. Fingers crossed as nothing yet.

Mydoghealsmyheart · 18/06/2023 16:16

Trying to prepare a Father’s Day meal for DH and I’m having to do everything whilst coping with being a hot, sticky, sweaty mess. It’s grim. By the time food is ready, presents wrapped and house tidied, I shall feel like a cold shower and a lie down. We’ve had thunder and lightning which led to some showers but it’s just made everything more muggy.

Soubriquet · 18/06/2023 16:37

We have rain!!!!! Or at least we did. Only a sprinkle though. Enough for you to smell the tarmac getting wet and then that was it. It’s all dried now. That’s how muggy and horrible it is

CatfoodOzymandias · 18/06/2023 16:40

I got caught in the rain! So lovely. I wanted to dance about like they do in Bollywood movies.

MeinKraft · 18/06/2023 16:59

Roasting here. The met office claims we will have thunder and rain for the next 3 hours. They lie.

willahelmina · 18/06/2023 17:02

They are lying as there's still no sign of the thundery showers promised hours ago.

I'll have to go and water the garden now. It's bound to rain immediately after I've done that 😀

Soubriquet · 18/06/2023 17:08

We have that misty type rain. Where everything gets covered in a mist. Not exactly helping the heat tbh

OP posts:
HappiDaze · 18/06/2023 17:10

Got absolutely drenched

Soubriquet · 18/06/2023 17:13

its raining properly now!! The cool air is coming in nicely. Thank fuck

BatshitCrazyWoman · 18/06/2023 17:13

I'm not a hot weather fan, I love autumn and winter. I also like spring, when it's a little warmer (say 18°) with light breezes. We don't seem to have spring any more -the weather here went from 14° to 27° overnight. Horrible. Muggy weather is the worst. I have a long commute, including the underground and not one part of it is air conditioned. Neither is my office. Nasty.

On the plus side, it's been pouring with rain for over an hour here, and it feels a bit cooler.

willahelmina · 18/06/2023 19:20

At last ☔️☔️
