Have we got one yet?

Yea I know it’s the first proper hot day, but I’m already suffering. I have a splitting headache that painkillers won’t touch. Always happens when it’s hot.

I get heat exhaustion really easily

I dislike the heat. I live in a flat that is grade 2 listed at the front and more modern at the back. This means that I have 2 temperatures. The front half is 25° and the back half is 27°. According to alexa, the current temp outside is 29°.
I have had a headache most evenings due to the heat.
If we ever have a thunderstorm it's usually a possible poor effort, 2 rumbles, 2 flashes and a splash of rain, then back to being hot.
Thunderstorms aren't the same as when I was a kid.

@HappiDaze

Glad you're a bit more comfortable!

I've got the shades down on the South-facing front of the house, and the back all opened up. We have a much-hated-on-Mumsnet (but loved by sun-hating me) North-facing garden, so it's pretty comfortable at the moment with a bit of a breeze going through the house. We also put air-conditioning in the bedrooms when we renovated, so I don't really have grounds for complaint.

Even the dogs, who are #notsmart seem to recognise that it's a day for quiet resting and are not nagging to go run around like lunatics.

We are, however, getting ready to pack for a week in Greece, which seemed like a much better idea back in early January, when i conveniently forgot how much I hate both hot weather and bright sun.

IheardYouButDontWantToAnswer · 25/06/2023 15:34

I hate the heat. My fingers and ankles are puffy, I feel knackered, my hair looks a state, and I can't sleep at night. Roll on September.

It's 26C here. I'm wet with sweat, including hair and I don't feel that I can breathe properly. I'm really severely heat intolerant and feel panicky now.

TheLostNights · 25/06/2023 18:22

Another disgusting day. 30C here today. Cooler next week but for how long is anyone's guess. Really vile.

BelindaBears · 25/06/2023 18:23

It’s been 27 today and disgustingly humid. I have horrific hayfever and have felt sweaty for about a week solid now. The promised thunderstorm hasn’t materialised, it’s just now dark grey and hot. I can’t wait for winter.

Bookridden · 25/06/2023 18:52

Hayfever has been out of control today. Actually feel unwell.

JenniferBooth · 25/06/2023 19:33

I live in a one bedroom flat rented off a housing association. I call it the Sanctuary sauna

Whattodo112222 · 25/06/2023 19:48

27 degrees downstairs currently.. dd4 has the fan.. I need to invest in another. I was stuck to the sheets this morning. Just want some cold weather now!!!

Giselletheunicorn · 25/06/2023 19:57

Menopausal and struggling with constant sweats and hot flushes as it is - hot weather is unbearable. Have barely moved from in front of the fan all day.

AllTheOtherCats · 25/06/2023 20:11

Same here Giselle. I've been unwell all weekend nausea, dizzy spells and a thumping headache. The hot flushes just top it all off. I've not been able to do anything. Hate this weather 🤬

MoonlightMemories · 26/06/2023 01:08

Oooh is that a thing!? I have IBS anyway and my (sorry, TMI! 🤣) bowels have not been very happy this week, especially the past few days when it's been really really hot and humid (feels like temps of 30 most days), so that might be why!

Has anyone else been feeling really exhausted in this heat? I feel like all I've done is either languish about during the day infront of my fan trying to get remotely comfortable or otherwise sleeping A LOT, even when I haven't actually felt tired.

I'm recovering from a chest infection too so there have been times when that has made me feel even hotter dur to the coughing fits and at times I've kinda felt like breathing was a bit difficult, which is really scary. Having very weird dreams at the moment, too...

Can summer be over already please!?

LadyBird1973 · 26/06/2023 07:22

Seems a bit cooler today where I am. Hopefully it will stay that way for a bit!
It's the mugginess that I really hate. And the stickiness! I feel for my poor cats, who also dislike it.
The very hot days are like wading through treacle, trying to get anything done. I have lots of diy that I need to crack on with, but who wants to be sanding doors down in the heat?

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 26/06/2023 19:52

My bedroom went up to 27° yesterday, I have ordered one if the cooling face masks so I can keep my head cool. I tried those sticky gel migraine relief things and ended up with a sore forehead. Today it's 23°.
I'm drinking copious amounts if peach squash with reusable ice cubes. Have a fan directed at me, which my cat is currently sitting in front of.
I'm still too warm and my head is still grumbling.
I hate this weather!

TheLostNights · 26/06/2023 21:54

Honestly nearly cried this morning when I saw the headlines saying we are due to get 40Cfor 2 weeks in July. It has actually sent me into a spiral of anxiety. If this is true, people are going to die, yet they are all saying there is a very high chance of it happening.

JenniferBooth · 26/06/2023 22:01

Gas safety check is due end of July If there is a heatwave at this time i will not be lifting a finger. Contractor will have to move stuff to get to the gas meter. He is paid to sweat. Im not. Fucking housing association should have thought of that before turning this place into a sauna

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 27/06/2023 00:15

The 40 degree stories are sending me into a panic. I'm pre-menopausal and diabetic and do not cope in heat.

I'm negotiating with DH how much we can pull out of savings for a portable air conditioning unit cos even the dyson fan seemed to just be pushing hot air around last week.

Nachtvlinder · 28/06/2023 22:20

It was terribly muggy here today and it's far worse if you have to travel by bus for work. I've just caught up with this thread and to find out about the heatwave at 40C for TWO LOOOONNNGG weeks is a joke. It's going to be worse than last year, and that was a godawful time for us lot.

I'm seeing lots of people are going off on their jollies already and incoming weeks. It makes me want to go too, but I don't really bother as its usually hotter in summer wherever you go in the world. But, I live in hope someone can come along to tell us there is such a place that has strong windy coastal places that we can visit, with stone houses that are cool and cast long shadows for walking along.

I haven't been anywhere for 3 years, and it would be so good if I can go away this summer. Normally, I wait for the winter, but I can't wait that long. I thought about Iceland, but I'm put off by the exhorbitant prices they charge. Has anyone been and found it affordable for those on a budget? (I would need to use public transport to get about too.)

NeverDropYourMooncup · 29/06/2023 19:35

It was raining this morning.

DP very helpfully brought out a thick, full length, close fitting, synthetic, padded waterproof raincoat for me to wear so I didn't get wet.

I went to work wearing a dark dress instead of a light one.

Oh, and when I came in tonight, he'd put the slow cooker on this morning. You wouldn't believe how hot a slow cooker on low can make a house in ten hours..

TheLostNights · 29/06/2023 21:41

Still pretty humid despite the rain.
I think I read earlier that the met office are now saying early to mid thirties which let's be honest is bad enough. But I don't think we will be getting 40C temps for 2 full weeks or at least I sincerely hope we don't. As I said before, surely that then means a national emergency as people will die.

TheLostNights · 07/07/2023 21:42

25C here at nearly 10PM. It's just horrible 😞

noglow · 07/07/2023 21:52

It's too hot basically. I've managed to go a week without needing to have a shower in the evenings after work but now I need it coz it's too sticky again

willahelmina · 07/07/2023 22:17

A hot weekend ahead after a hot day today ☹️🥵

TheLostNights · 08/07/2023 13:24

It's so humid, need a big downpour.
