Have we got one yet?

Yea I know it’s the first proper hot day, but I’m already suffering. I have a splitting headache that painkillers won’t touch. Always happens when it’s hot.

I get heat exhaustion really easily

@user333334 I just wanted to thank you again for making me realise I needed to embrace the bright and breezy dresses and skirts in this sweltering weather and ditch the leggings etc

SunsetsInVenice · 22/06/2023 21:55

It's hideous. Had a headache every night from the heat and my poor cat is exhausted and really struggling in it. :(

I took the ice pack to bed last night and slept with it under my pillow. It was lovely.

You are my tribe. I struggle so much in hot weather and feel like I really suffer in heat, I'm just not 'built' for it. Everything shared here, I can relate to. Like all of you I'm already finding it really difficult now and the weather peeps are saying temperatures are going to be higher than they were last year - the very idea of that appals me and makes me want to weep. Seriously. But through trial and error (and unfortunately some spending) I've found a combination of things that works for me at the moment (whether or not this will continue if temperatures do rise above last year remains to be seen) so I thought I would offer them in the hope that one or more may prove helpful to one or more of you...

This proved a lifesaver for my beloved dog. I doubt she would have lasted the summer without it. I had tried soaking a teatowel, ringing it out and covering her with it but the towel didn't seem to stay cool for very long. This little cool vest is amazing as it stays cold for ages, can't fall off when she moves around as it's secured by the velcro strip down the back, is roomy enough for her to move freely and does not in any way prevent her from toileting. Be aware though that when it does dry out it hardens so would be uncomfortable and need removing, but as I said, once soaked it stays wet and cool for hours. Whereas before she just flopped about panting and looking forlorn and unhappy, with her little cool vest on she lay sleeping without panting. Considering the difference its made for her, I'd happily pay double.

This is the fan I have in the bedroom. One of my best buys ever. Throughout last summer and since the heat attacked us this summer, I sleep with this on all night. It's pretty much silent and I only need it on level 2. I have it on a desk facing the bed about 4/5 feet away from the bed and it keeps the whole area cool.

I do have a necklace fan (the kind you wear around your neck) but found that it took too long to charge. I do still use it when shopping etc, but for general household use I bought this little portable fan which comes in different colours for preference, is quickly charged via USB and seem to last ages once charged. Its so lightweight and easy to move around. When working at my desk I have it behind my keyboard, with the lead connected to a front USB port on my desktop. Usually only have to have it on its lowest setting, though one night during the week I did turn it up to the next level.

And finally, for anyone who suffers from sweat and discomfort under boob and/or belly, I found these to be so helpful! Washable, so soft, and extremely comfortable. I fold them lengthwise and tuck one under my boobs so that its contained within my bra and prevents any chaffing, and same with one under belly roll. I bought just one pack initially but they proved so great for me that I ordered a couple more and so I always have fresh to hand when used ones go in my underwear laundry bag - and they dry really quickly.

I really hope one or a combination of these will help one or more of you...

MedievalMadness · 23/06/2023 10:05

Themeltingpot I have the same fan. It’s brilliant. I also keep it on the bedside table all night on 1 or 2. I only just recently it oscillates up and down as well as side to side. Lifesaver.

I have a neck fan which is good but noticed on a boiling hot bus or train, it isn’t very effective.

Im definitely going to try those pads for under boob sweat which I struggle with. I have excess sweating of my head, face and neck and down to just under boob area. Currently waiting for results of endocrine tests as it’s so bad. Today it is bliss in West Yorkshire. I’ve got the windows wide open and it’s cloudy and feels quite chilly. Absolute heaven as yesterday was hell on legs.

thanks for the recommendations. Off to order those liners now.

MedievalMadness · 23/06/2023 10:07

Forgot to say that my friend has a Dyson fan as well as the Meaco one and says she thinks the Meaco is much better. And over £300 cheaper! I’m so glad I took the plunge and bought it.

Bookist · 23/06/2023 10:15

Some feedback for the Amazon neck fan mentioned upthread. I would say it's okay but not brilliant. It could do with being a bit more powerful and the angle isn't quite right for blowing up onto your face.

TheLostNights · 23/06/2023 12:38

Last year's extreme heat was meant to be a rarity so don't get why its happening again this year and meant to be even hotter... I don't think it's down to climate change, just bloody unfortunate that yet again we are having a repeat of last year.

TheLostNights · 23/06/2023 12:39

Also, Aldi do cooling pillow sheets, about £4 for 2. Was going to get some but watching every single penny at the moment so didn't.

CosmosQueen · 23/06/2023 13:29

The humidity and heat is making me feel really unwell; I had coffee with a friend at the garden centre earlier and by the time I got home I felt sick and dizzy. I had the car air on on full driving back so it wasn’t too bad.
I struggled to breathe in this weather because of severe heart problems, roll on the autumn.

Soubriquet · 23/06/2023 15:38

Had my kids sports day today. It was hot but not too bad. There was a breeze and I had my neck fan. I was still a little hot but not horribly uncomfortable hot

Thought of another 2 months of this is just horrendous. It's a bit cooler today but it won't last.

It won't be two months, I'm sure. August can often feel quite autumnal particularly the last 2 weeks.

TheLostNights · 23/06/2023 18:47

I really hope you are right @MeinKraft . It was warm right into October last year. So tired of it already.

Soubriquet · 24/06/2023 20:07

I feel so unwell today. Two hours I was at my kids sports day yesterday. That was it. I’ve managed to get sun stroke.

I keep getting cold sweats, head to toe. Extreme nausea and stomach pain. I’ve had bad diarrhoea too which left me in agony.

I am now very headachy and weak. The heat now isn’t helping. So bloody muggy.

Been horrible today. 28C and felt so irritable and unwell.
Looking at the long range forecast and it looks to be a bit cooler after tomorrow but sure it will start creeping up again. I wish we were in August instead of June. At least that way you know there is an end in sight. 😔

Hear hear. It’s so unbearably humid and I am so fed up of it! I feel so grouchy and tired too because our house is so warm

I wouldn't mind if it would cool down at night!
Highly recommend lingering in a supermarket, Aldi was freezing today and there was a LOT of people muttering they were staying in there

mrsneate · 25/06/2023 01:01

It's hideous, combined with a high temp too.

Had to endure my boys football presentation today in a room full of about 200-300 people (or balls of sweat!) couldn't wait to get out of there and back on my bed in my pants in front of the fan.

I have to put scrubs on tomorrow ugh!

LordSalem · 25/06/2023 03:11

Living in tit soup. Feeling drips making their way down my back to my bum. Driclor, Odaban both useless unless I fancy chemical burns. My (shaved off) moustache is beading with sweat. I NEED WINTER! How the fuck do people who already suffer from hyperhidrosis deal with menopause? The thought of that in a few years to come makes me feel ill.
My hair does a Monica with the humidity.

frannytree · 25/06/2023 05:32

🥵☹️

TheLostNights · 25/06/2023 10:10

Looks a bit cooler after today. But as I've already mentioned, it won't last I am sure :(
Really am in disbelief that anyone can possibly enjoy this weather. Thumping headaches, exhausted, constantly sweating and unclean feeling, no appetite, poor sleep, constantly putting sun cream on, I could go on. I fail to see how anyone can say this weather is beautiful or that we should be enjoying it. I'm hating every minute and know I will feel even worse by the end of today. Absolutely horrible.

It was but I do remember a rather rainy September last year. And while October can indeed be warm, it's not stupidly hot. Plus we are past Summer Solstice which means the days will be very slowly drawing in. Less daylight = less sunlight!

Soubriquet · 25/06/2023 13:32

I just want to cry now. It’s so fucking hot
