Have we got one yet?

Yea I know it’s the first proper hot day, but I’m already suffering. I have a splitting headache that painkillers won’t touch. Always happens when it’s hot.

I get heat exhaustion really easily

It does seem to have cooled down a little bit, and the pool about 20 mins away has closed because of a pending thunderstorm (it’s the only outdoor pool for miles)

I get SAD, so every Autumn/Winter can be a struggle from October onwards. It usually eases off by April. However, it took until May this year for me to feel better. I liked the sunny days, with a breeze. Suddenly, it's been BAM have some really hot weather... yuck! I can't have extremes either way. 20 degrees is my limit. Combining heat with perimenopause is no joke! Plus, I am on antidepressants that make me more sun sensitive. 🥺

Needingacoffee · 12/06/2023 16:43

Oh, and where I live had a storm with flash flooding earlier. Another thing I really hate, especially during a school run. 😬

Just got home from King's Cross where it had the most glorious downpour complete with thunder
Neverseen people move so fast

Soubriquet · 13/06/2023 02:30

Ugh. I can’t fucking sleep. Too hot

I need a decent thunderstorm

Soubriquet · 13/06/2023 07:01

Same

Why can't we order thunderstorms from Amazon?

Blackbyrd · 13/06/2023 08:12

Sparing a thought for the poor Year 11s having to sit exams in this stifling heat. All lined up in halls with no air con, and not allowed water

Mydoghealsmyheart · 13/06/2023 08:35

Why are they not allowed water?

HappiDaze · 13/06/2023 10:50

I think they can so long as it's in a clear bottle but there are lots of strange rules re exams in each school

HappiDaze · 13/06/2023 10:55

My pedestal fan is luckily strong enough so far it's just when it tips over into the 30's it doesn't make much difference

I was dripping in sweat when I got home yesterday

This may be TMI but I wore period pants and a pad to try and help with you know getting too hot and sweaty and I wore gym leggings with a long tunic in case any sweat patches showed

I wasn't soaked but everything was still damp around the edges.

It's a real predicament. I'm menopausal and on HRT so not really an major issue I've encountered before. Now I'm debating if I'm mildly incontinent as well as sweaty. I'm also more overweight than I've ever been so everything is going against me tight now in this weather Hmm

Theunamedcat · 13/06/2023 11:11

I've purchased cool bedding from amazon my ten years old CANNOT SLEEP I've also spent an hour pumping up a pool for him to hopefully cool down in after school

PenelopeTitsDrop3121 · 13/06/2023 11:15

I absolutely hate it. Everything is such an effort. I'm self conscious wearing summer clothes,I'm fair skinned and Auburn hair and my meds make me sun sensitive 😞 I also have a pug that struggles with the heat. Roll on September 😔

@HappiDaze

Oh, that sounds miserable. Can I gently suggest that what you're describing - period pants, a pad and gym leggings - sounds like a combination that's going to make you even hotter and sweatier? I'm not a very sweaty person and I feel damp just reading it! Could you try wearing something light and breezy and bringing a pad along in case you decide it's mild incontinence?

I feel your hatred of hot weather though!

HappiDaze · 13/06/2023 13:17

@user333334

Yes you're absolutely right it sounds ridiculously too much doesn't it.

I did actually buy a new maxi skirt yesterday so I'll try to just wear skirts and dresses and see how that goes.

Alsonification · 13/06/2023 14:06

Woke up at 2:30am to the loudest rain I have ever heard. It was like a jet engine going over my house. The heat was so bad I was a sweaty mess. Lasted about 15 mins & then happened again a couple of hours later. Of course i couldn't go back to sleep so I'm shattered now.
There's a warning for thunderstorms for my county today. Bring it on I say!!

Hope you'll find that more comfortable. I will say, I found having Covid to be a very good reminder to keep at those pelvic floor exercises 😅

There's so much I relate to in this thread, pleased im not the only one to struggle in summer!

For my contribution I'd like to moan about people I work with. Why do some tanned people refuse to understand that the sun is literally painful to some of us pale folk? I'm so fed up of my happy bouncy work colleagues floating around in their light dresses telling me to come for a lunchtime walk with them to soak up the sun. They know I've had skin cancer twice already but they still ask every day!

The sun has tried to kill me, the sun represents cancer to me. Why would I ever want to seek it out you insensitive pricks? Take your jolly BS off to the park with you and leave me in peace and shade. Can't wait for this season to be over.

This is the sort of brave idea I often have each summer until I remember about the chafing....oh god, the chafing!

I have some pants that are actually more like thin cycling shorts but what good are they when it just adds layers of insulation? 🤣

Mb76 · 10/06/2023 20:48

Me too. With hay fever from hell on top. I truly hate this time of year 🥵🤧

This. Bloody hate it all. Have had to endure two sports days so far. All I wanted to do was lie in a dark room!

CatfoodOzymandias · 13/06/2023 14:56

Fuck my new build in London is like a furnace. Why did I not buy a drafty Victorian in the Scottish highlands! God am so cranky. Dont want to work, or cook, or clean or talk to my family.... And my period is approaching.

mirages08 · 13/06/2023 14:57

I'm exam invigilating in airless rooms
Hideous
I could weep

CatfoodOzymandias · 13/06/2023 14:59

Am eating 3 icelollies a day. It's actually cooler outside than in my house. I should try to work from the park but I need Wifi. Going to the library tomorrow.

WoofWoofBeachLife · 13/06/2023 15:35

Thank you for the thread, I'm struggling with this weather too. My hair permanently looks like I've just come out the shower I sweat that much. Its been like that since early 40's due to a combination of medication and peri. I hate the sweat shiver cycle, am I the only one? Swearing so much I'm soaked then I'm cold because I'm soaked. I got it a lot when I worked in an air-conditioned office. I worked with a young girl who would wear opaque tights even in this weather she hated her legs that much. When it's this hot I don't sit in the sun, the most I do is hang washing out lol. Its sounds awful because we moan about the Scottish unpredictable weather, but can we turn the heat knob down a few notches? And more of a breeze thank you 😊
I am also envious of the easy tanners, I'm a pale, ginger, chubby, sweaty menopausal wee crab 🦀 at the moment.
