Hot weather moaning thread (those who like it hot, need not apply)

Have we got one yet?

Yea I know it’s the first proper hot day, but I’m already suffering. I have a splitting headache that painkillers won’t touch. Always happens when it’s hot.

I get heat exhaustion really easily

Utterly fed up. Two kids who are autistic and hate the heat (as do I). One couldn’t sleep and ended up falling asleep at 3am, can’t open the window in their room as they’d likely climb out of it. So I’m shattered and hot this morning.

WhyPie · 12/06/2023 07:19

I'm about to move from Scotland and this is the one thing that gives me the wobbles about it. I mean, the weather here is shit most of the year but summers are cool and bearable.

Abracadabra12345 · 12/06/2023 07:26

@Mb76

"Ha ha no, not me, I’m the person that complains that we didn’t get any snow here in the SE last winter."

OMG, you ARE me. Although we did get snow December in this part of the SE and it was magical, like walking through Narnia (before Aslan). I absolutely loved the hushed and white landscape- so definitely no complaints about cold weather here either!

I was just telling someone that 'this was not the deal'! I find hot weather uncomfortable and energy draining. When I moved back to London I thought max 24 and a decent amount of rain - I designed my north facing garden last Spring for cooler damp conditions - ha! I watched my new turf turn crisp brown and my new plants shrivel up in the heat and hosepipe Nan. And those that survived were finally killed off in that week long deep freeze. Plants I've had in pots for years, gone.
I was happy with that amazing rainfall yesterday, though a friend had gone out pleasure rowing and she got completely drenched!

Are you all the same people who moan about the cold weather and the cost of heating in winter?

No.

My Winter consisted of extra layers and duvets, it was lovely and cosy. Only had the heating on a bit when it snowed. Cold, frosty winter days are the best!

I hate this weather! It makes me hot, sticky and sweaty. My hay fever is worse than ever. There are flies and insects everywhere. Dc don't want the windows open at night as moths fly in. The endless applications of suncream. The sun irritates my eyes. There's added pressure of feeling the need to be out enjoying the sun at all opportunities. It makes me feel nauseous.

I actually hate this weather so much!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 12/06/2023 07:38

I've bitten the bullet and ordered a portable aircon unit. We can't do another year like last one. DP has aircon at work, I have a windowless room with a colleague who wears cashmere polo necks and past two people who complain of the cold when in the Mediterranean: they only turned off their portable heater two weeks ago and will undoubted turn it back on if it rains.

I'm praying for the PAT man to condemn it and cut the plug off (something that has definitely occurred to me before now).

Bribe him?

Bribe him?

With the price of the aircon unit, I'd only be able to offer a couple of packets of ginger nuts from the staff cupboard!

Whatt · 12/06/2023 08:01

Is anyone having fever type vivid dreams?
The past few days the weather is causing me to have have crazy dreams.

Coffeeforus · 12/06/2023 08:06

Absolutely hate the humidity. We went to the cinema yesterday and the air con had broken down, but they didn’t tell you beforehand. DS was desperate to see the movie so we didn’t leave and ask for a refund but I was boiling hot right down to the soles of my feet.

I’d like to move to Devon where my family are on the coast where it’s cooler on summer, rather than roast in the SE.

Cityzen74 · 12/06/2023 08:41

I am hating this weather too. Solidarity with everyone on here.

sashh · 12/06/2023 08:41

I have two portable air con units, if I owned this place I would have AC installed.

My tips.

Get up early and open the windows to let some cool air in, I often put a fan on to blow the warm air out of the window.

When it starts to warm up close the windows and the blinds / curtains unless there is a breeze, then close the blinds / curtains but leave the window open.

Sip water at room temperature or have a tea / coffee, avoid really cold drinks, they will cool your core temperature and your body will try to heat it up, making you feel warmer.

Wear a cooling towel.

I try not to put the AC on until the afternoon and I run a fan at the same time.

Cool bath or shower. Put your pyjamas in the fridge / freezer - in a plastic bag you don't want them taking on the smell of your onions.

Go to bed still wet from your bath/shower.

Are you all the same people who moan about the cold weather and the cost of heating in winter?

No, the heating was on 3 times over the winter, I used heated throws and wore a jumper.

My mum used to say I must be descended from Vikings because I don't feel the cold.

I always pay more for electricity in the summer.

Alsonification · 12/06/2023 09:00

I've found my people!!!
I'm in Ireland (midlands) & it's been a solid 22/23° here for weeks. I'm dying.
I hate hate hate summer! When it's sunny I can feel my self getting tense. The heat makes me so cranky & irritable. I'm a sweaty Betty at the best of times so summer is hell. I'm also perimenopausal so that's fun.
When I hear rain & see dark grey skies I can literally feel the tension seep out of me & I totally relax. Winter is my season but I also like autumn mainly cos I know winter is coming lol.

Today we have rain forecast finally. It's still hot & muggy which is awful (and the humidity makes my already crazy hair even crazier!) but at least the skies are grey!!

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 12/06/2023 09:03

Also hate it. I'm a fat sweaty mess. Plus am absolutely covered in psoriasis patches all over my arms, back and legs so can't go out places in shorts and vest or dresses because I'm so self conscious about it.

We still haven't had a storm here and desperately in need of one.

And no I barely had the heating on in winter. Cardigans and blankets were just fine. I like being cold.

HappiDaze · 12/06/2023 09:17

Omg I was pouring my coffee this morning and realised I was dripping with sweat just from moving around the kitchen.

I'm about to pop in the shower to get ready for a meeting.

I'm finding it really hard to know what to wear esp as I've put on weight.

Around the house I wear my baggy linen dresses which have seen better days and I wouldn't wear outside but I love them dearly in this heat. They're old Lagenlook dresses which I've had years now. Fortunately at the time I bought it in 3 different colours (one is full of holes) but they don't make that style anymore. They have large pockets which makes them even more perfect.

the80sweregreat · 12/06/2023 11:15

It's very humid here today

Hoping it rains a bit to cool it down

hiredandsqueak · 12/06/2023 11:26

I hate the heat, always have. Walked the dog at 7am again as she's old and flat faced so keep her out of the sun and it was warm then. Reasonably cool downstairs for now but have kept the blinds closed and fans on which helps.

Soubriquet · 12/06/2023 11:42

It’s fooking hot!! Turn the heater off!! Where’s this bloody thunderstorm that was supposed to happen yesterday?

OP posts:
Setting · 12/06/2023 11:44

I know not everyone can afford it, but I saved up birthday and Christmas and bought a portable aircon. It’s fucking game changing. Less to run a day than the suggestion of sitting in a coffee shop to use their aircon.

willahelmina · 12/06/2023 11:54

I'd like to join you as it's just too hot to be comfortable. I'm dead from overheating within minutes when I try to exercise, even left until the late evening.

No rain due until next Monday 😰

DifferentRoundHere · 12/06/2023 12:06

I don’t like the heat, never have but it’s definitely got worse since being peri menopausal! I wear loose cool clothing, keep to a healthy weight but I just don’t like the heat. The dogs are fed up with only being walked at 8am and 8pm, they love afternoon walkies.

We bought 5 air con units and the house is lovely and cool so I plan to stay home a lot. 😂

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 12/06/2023 12:41

Oh and to top it all off I have had to close all the windows and doors cos there is a huge fire at a factory nearby and it smells a bit unhealthy...

MinnieMountain · 12/06/2023 13:08

The lido is no longer even refreshing, let alone cool enough to do my lengths 😡

I think it all turned up about 20 minutes ago. I've been battered by hailstones and I'm pretty sure that I've come put of baths drier than this.

Not cold any more, though. Just got to hope my road hasn't flooded.

MedievalMadness · 12/06/2023 16:29

Which air con units have those of you with them got? It’s 29 in my living room. I think I’m going to have to go for it. I feel ill.
