Have we got one yet?

Yea I know it’s the first proper hot day, but I’m already suffering. I have a splitting headache that painkillers won’t touch. Always happens when it’s hot.

I get heat exhaustion really easily

There's so much I relate to in this thread, pleased im not the only one to struggle in summer!

For my contribution I'd like to moan about people I work with. Why do some tanned people refuse to understand that the sun is literally painful to some of us pale folk? I'm so fed up of my happy bouncy work colleagues floating around in their light dresses telling me to come for a lunchtime walk with them to soak up the sun. They know I've had skin cancer twice already but they still ask every day!

The sun has tried to kill me, the sun represents cancer to me. Why would I ever want to seek it out you insensitive pricks? Take your jolly BS off to the park with you and leave me in peace and shade. Can't wait for this season to be over.

That's very insensitive of them.

Just back off holiday and I hate every, single photo of me. My face sweats constantly. Hair looks fluffy with a weird kink iny fringe. Cannot possibly wear any make up because of excessive facial sweating, so features look faded and skin a nice, blotchy red. I always bloat in the heat so look permanently 5 months pregnant which is ironic as the heat also makes me look about 65. Managed to get over a dozen swollen mozi bites and one was even on my face FFS. Can I mention the facial sweating again? Just felt so uncomfortable in my own skin the whole time.

the80sweregreat · 13/06/2023 17:20

Some people look cool as a cucumber in heat ! They radiate good health and seem happy in skimpier clothes or sandals
I just don't.
I wished I could look poised and happy
Instead I'm just waiting for it to cool down

PretendUsername · 13/06/2023 17:51

I empathise so much @Bookist . I've been attempting suncream underneath primer and then foundation on top so I at least look less red and blotchy for work but I end up a greasy shiny mess. I don't care what anyone says, there's just no way I can wear suncream and look decent. I look as shiny as a slug by the end of the day and my hair gets all frizzy from the humidity. It's not even a nice sort of frizz, it looks like a brush would get stuck in it so I can't even play it off as a deliberate new style!

PretendUsername · 13/06/2023 17:54

@the80sweregreat I know right! How on earth do people do loads of walking in those strappy little flip flops with the straps between the toes? So many mums on the school run are walking over a mile in those things and my feet would just bleed.

They don't even break a sweat or look uncomfortable either.

SpacePotato · 13/06/2023 17:56

Joining in.

I'm lucky enough to have an old, shaded house which stays cool in summer, but it lulls me into a false sense of security so when I step outside it's like being slapped with horrible heat.

Instant sweaty mess.
I would love to look effortless and floaty in strappy dresses but no. Skin goes blotchy, sweaty everywhere and hair looks a greasy mess.
Perimenopause just adds an extra layer of hell.

Have you tried just mixing some foundation into sunscreen? I love this stuff with a little foundation mixed in. I wear it all year round and it's so much nicer than having loads of stuff on your skin when it's hot.

My hot weather friends find my whinging funny
It's ok for them with olive skin and they can look good in a dress! They haven't my hang ups around summer clothes or shoes! I can't wear toe posts , flip flops , or anything like that
I do have horrible odd feet though tbf

WeAllHaveWings · 13/06/2023 18:10

I am in Scotland so it is "only" 27 degrees.

I am off on annual leave this week, but have stayed in and done fuck all so far because it is just too hot for me, add menopause into the mix and I am feeling even more uncomfortable than usual and getting no sleep either 🥵 My poor old black labrador is melting, tried giving him an ice Lolly (that he has had many times in past ok) and he was sick on the carpet 3 times 😭.

Wish I was in work because at least I would have days to take later if WFH or have air conditioning if in office.

When I go back to work next week everyone will saying I was lucky with my week off as the weather was so nice 🤬

sittingonacornflake · 13/06/2023 18:12

@PretendUsername I have a recommendation for you! On my face instead of suncream I use a really super light moisturiser with spf50. It's absolutely fantastic, no shining, no stickiness, completely weightless and make up just blends in over the top. This is the one I use. It's expensive but it lasts AGES (possibly 9 months of daily use I get between purchases, which really is a year as I don't think you need spf50 in the winter).

It's miserable isn't it? I know I should use a sunscreen but nothing really suits me and I just sweat it off anyway. I've tried all the fashionable ones like Frezyderm, Murad, Biore and loads by La Roche Posay but invariably I get spots or they make my eyes sting. And I just sweat them off. I've tried all the latest anti sweat facial creams and nothing works. In the Autumn, Winter and Spring I feel good about myself and put together. But in the Summer I just feel an ugly mess.

Soubriquet · 13/06/2023 19:35

I’m actually feeling a little bit cooler right now. I have clothing on! Something I haven’t done all day.

Hoping I can sleep tonight. I only got 3 hours last night. Or this morning I guess. I finally went to sleep around 4 but was up again at 7

I usually walk/run daily but skipped it today. Have an early start tomorrow and have to find something cool to wear!

The sweat pours down my face and neck constantly, it is disgusting. And I now know I must stink too because I walked into my sons bedroom today and he asked 'what's that smell?' Blush I got one of those little fans from home bargains that sprays water on your face which helps a bit.

WoofWoofBeachLife · 13/06/2023 21:38

Ps I ordered the necklace fan posted further up and paid a fiver extra for delivery tomorrow 🤣🤣 xx

Joining in the moaning. I'm fat, menopausal, on sertraline so feel the heat more, and also have terrible hay fever. I don't like the heat.

PretendUsername · 13/06/2023 21:52

Thanks for the suggestions @user333334 and @sittingonacornflake , I'll definitely look into those. I have acne so it's always difficult to find the balance between covering up my blemishes and letting my skin breathe a bit. The GP told me I'd grow out of it when I saw him at age 16. I'm still waiting at age 40. ⌚

sashh · 14/06/2023 04:04

Just to add something that might help.

I have found a 'cooling towel' takes the edge off, you do need to no worry about your clothes getting wet though.

Actually any towel that has been wet and hung around your neck will work but probably not a good look for work.

LadyBird1973 · 14/06/2023 08:15

Re make up and foundation in the heat, my sisters says that cerave sell an spf face moisturiser which is tinted. I use a cetaphil spf 50 normal face moisturiser and that doesn't seem to have the stingy greasy effect of normal sun cream.

HappiDaze · 14/06/2023 14:39

I'm sitting in front of the fan and have kept all windows shut and curtains drawn today. It's been bearable. I'm wearing a very loose oversize dress in viscose which for me works well as a cool fabric because it's so thin compared to cotton or linen.

I woke up quite cold at about 3-4am under my duvet cover so had to pull the actual duvet over me for a while to warm up.

My thermometer read 29 degrees out in the sun. It read 31 yesterday

MedievalMadness · 14/06/2023 17:00

I’m sat in front of the fan. It’s 28. 2 in my living room. New build flat with huge south facing window and bedroom also south facing. Now through draft . No balcony or gardens. I slept with the fan on the bedside table all night which helped. Today we went to a nearby village to take refuge in the shaded bit of their beer garden which was heaven. We went for a little walk to look at the church and round the graveyard , chatted with a friendly local and by the time we were back at the car I was a dripping, sweating wreck. It was about 15 mins max of slow walking . Way too much for me. I can’t cope. My head, face and neck are literally soaked within minutes when I start moving around. Always been bad, but menopause and beyond have made it 100% worse.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 14/06/2023 17:09

I have complained SO much today, I'm annoying myself. I feel huge, like I've swollen up 3 times my size. Have no idea what to wear to work tomorrow. Forcing myself out for a walk in a bit, I've barely moved all day.

Sussexcricket · 14/06/2023 17:39

I live in a flat that's rated f for it's energy.
In winter it's freezing and the temperature drops the minute heating is turned off.
In summer it's just bastardly hot and can't be cooled down
29c indoors ATM.
I'm glad I work in a supermarket this summer 😂
