Just breaking now on BBC.

Same day as Nadine.

When discussing the honours list this morning, the theory was that Sunak couldn't accept the peerages to MPs because he didn't want to trigger four by-elections, and he wouldn't accept Stanley for obvious reasons. So he told Boris that, if he'd take them off the list, he'd wave the rest of the honours through. So it sounds as if Boris and Nadine reckon that the best way of getting their own back is to precipitate by-elections.

I wonder who is advising him at the moment ?

Donald Trump by the sounds of it

viques · 09/06/2023 20:47

His resignation speech sounds like the classic “I was holding the knife your honour, but they just kept on running into it time and time again even though I was telling them to stop or you will get hurt.”

It’s Carrie I feel sorry for, he will be under her feet all day just as she is trying to sort out the decorators in the new mansion. “Boris, can you take the damn kids for a walk round the grounds for an hour while I talk wallpaper. And take that bloody dog you insisted we had for the photo ops that were supposed to make you look like a human being with feelingz.”

Anyone know why this may be? I’m assuming because they’ve found something in the covid enquiry and he knows if he didn’t quit as an MP that he’d be sacked?

Misled parliament.

the80sweregreat · 09/06/2023 20:49

Carrie is having number three soon
He'll be the ' stay at home dad ' with one on his chest in a sling and the other two pestering him for sweets out of the shop. Living the dream

ForTheSakeOfThePenguin · 09/06/2023 20:49

Standing down? Just as he used informed he was going to lose his sit anyway? Clown to the end and back.

And there is he saying he left the post with a majority… most people were already fed up with the Tories before Liz Truss came to fuck all our finances with the economic experiment that ended up with a huge increase of interest in our mortgages.

I am sure the EDL and UKIP will be resurrected within a month with a new name, something like the British Liberation Party with Boris and Farage as senior advisors…

"He said it was his “faith in the impartiality of our systems” which led him to commissioner the former civil servant Sue Gray to investigate parties in Downing Street."

He must have forgot that he asked the Cabinet Secretary first - and then there were complaints as people thought that might not be impartial.

He also seems to have forgotten that he claimed Sue Gray vindicated him and that the Sue Gray report wasn’t why he was forced to resign.

i can only assume something’s going to come out about them both sharpish.

couldn’t happen to two nicer people.

FinallyHere · 09/06/2023 20:51

Interesting to know how Carrie feels about this latest development.

It may indeed have felt pretty good having been sacked from her role as head of comms for fiddling her expenses, to stroll back in on the PMs arm.

Wonder whether Johnson on the talk circuit can really make enough to keep Carrie in the style to which she has become accustomed.

ShandaLear · 09/06/2023 20:51

Bye bye, Poundland Trump. You were shite while you lasted.

sunshinesupermum · 09/06/2023 20:52

But it won't be a party though.
Just a work meeting.
With wine in a fridge.

😆

Will his new Party be called the Partygate Party?

Uxbridge must be delighted. Hopefully he's gone for good and isn't going to reappear in another safer Tory seat next year.

I definitely am and I think most of my neighbours will be!

Opposition politicians began reacting to the news Boris Johnson is to stand down, triggering a by-election.
Angela Rayner, Labour Deputy Leader and Shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, said: “The British public are sick to the back teeth of this never ending Tory soap opera played out at their expense.
“After thirteen years of Conservative chaos, enough is enough.
“It’s time to turn the page with a fresh start for Britain with a Labour Government focused on the people’s priorities of tackling the cost of living crisis and building a better future.”
John McDonnell, MP for Hayes and Harlington and former shadow chancellor, tweeted: “Good riddance”.
Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader Daisy Cooper MP also said: “Good riddance.”

I don't feel any sympathy for any participant in this drama. I can't be very supportive of Sir Keir, although I feel he's a decent man and will do his utmost to do the right thing. I am floundering a bit politically (for several years now) but I think the whole world scene politics issue is totally dysfunctional. Mainly because nobody in power has a destination in mind.

Nat6999 · 09/06/2023 20:59

I give him & Carrie two years st the most, he will be caught shagging someone else & Carrie will divorce him for half his ill gotten gains.

BreehyHinnyBrinnyHoohyHah · 09/06/2023 20:11

Has he done any work as an MP since stepping down as PM? Or has he just been riding out on the gravy train?

Good riddance. I have a feeling that his ego won't let this be the last we see of him though.

Boris Johnson has been on continuous 'fact-finding' missions on behalf of his constituents in recent months, including a 'fact-finding' mission to Casa de Campo in the Caribbean.

Dont let the door hit you on the way out. A more morally bankrupt person I have yet to see ...well other than trump. Jumping before he was pushed. Has to be something self serving about this of course. Likely all will be revealed in the fullness if time.

As for JRMs peerage ....well that is just the cherry on top.😩a pompous a-hole gets a title to match. All the other peers should resign in protest as it tarnishes their image.

jgw1 · 09/06/2023 21:00

The thing is Boris knows what a woman is, which is why it is an utter travesty that he has been brought down by a committee led by a woman.

TheGander · 09/06/2023 21:00

I think it suits him. He’s made his millions, got the mansion and doesn’t have to do the tedious work of being an MP. What’s not to like. Probably feels it is bringing him even closer to his hero Churchill who was pushed out of active politics at various stages in his life and retired to his country house to write and think of ways of making money.
