Surely even you have noticed that Gordon Brown was not PM during lockdown?
I also heard Alastair Campbell claim that there was no drinking culture in Downing Street before Johnson - clearly nonsense.

Does it really matter what the rules were before a pandemic?

The fact is during the pandemic there were laws - even about contact on work - which were broken and in which staff received FPN for.

It's not even in dispute that they didn't follow the laws.

What's in dispute if wherever Johnson misled parliament over this.

A report was commissioned. He's seen the draft. He resigned.

Bits are now coming out which indicate why that was.

We will see the report in the next few days.

But innocent people don't take FPN and resign. Not ones who are happy to tax hundreds and thousands of tax payers money to defend themselves.

I think he's willing to hand over his what's apps etc now because he knows there's no way he can avoid going down. So he's taking everyone with him.

There are times when I seriously wish MNHQ had a block button. The derailing and the goading defences of Johnson are tiresome.

Plenty of other sites with hide and block buttons for those who can't cope with different opinions. Mn treats people like grown ups and it is actually a good thing to see a balanced debate rather than the echo chambers of 'the tories are evil and Boris is bad' that these threads descend into.

heartsinvisiblefury · 13/06/2023 07:53

'For those that can't cope with different opinions' is an interesting way of saying 'for those who are sick of people who can't defend their opinions however many times asked' but hey, whatever makes you think you're on the right side of the argument no matter how stupid.

@Janiie We are all really eager to have a debate with you about why a 56 year old needed a birthday party, but millions of children could not. There only seems to be one stumbling block to this debate, that being that you consistently have failed to provide any arguements in support of your position.

If you don't think the Tories are evil and Boris is bad, lets start having a debate about it.

MrsSkylerWhite · 13/06/2023 00:30

No it wasn’t. Working in an office is hardly the coal face , is it?

If NHS staff, care home staff, supermarket delivery drivers, bus drivers (transport workers generally) and countless thousands of other essential workers could abide by the Government’s rules, why couldn’t the Government?

I didn't say working in an office was the coal face. What I said was that it wasn't unusual for people to have beer in offices. I worked in one where there was a permanent supply, mostly for entertaining clients but it came out also at long meetings.

borntobequiet · 13/06/2023 08:01

I don’t think that the Tories are necessarily evil, but Ithink it’s true that Johnson has been bad for the country, bad for the Conservative Party and bad for the many previous friends and allies that he has betrayed on his way up the political ladder. So I think it’s fair to say that he’s bad. Bad, more than a little unhinged, and, for some, dangerous to know.

Agree with this.

I'm always up for a debate.

Hell - I've even changed my mind when on political debates or slightly reviewed my opinion if I haven't changed my stance.

I don't agree with everything everyone who is against what Johnson has done and the Tory's say.

But there isn't a debate. Those who are defenders of Johnson cannot defend his actions with stats and figures and positive outcomes.

And the biggest worry is they cannot see that that is the fundamental problem.

Politics is always dirty and I do agree there is always some scandal or another. But at least you can usually point out some positives and achievement.

Alexandra2001 · 13/06/2023 08:10

Tories have definitely carried out some very harmful policies, housing, nhs, education and Bojo acted solely to enrich himself and not the UK, what he did over Brexit should be criminal

But he is bad janiie and many knew this before he became London Mayor. Yes I know it us the Guardian, but they were right.

There was no need to all be standing in a room eating a buffet and drinking wine in an office. Proven by the finding of a police investigation and the subsequent FPN

And yet, Keir Starmer stood in a room, ate from a buffet (he said as much) and drank beer whilst working.

(NB - I'm not sure Boris Johnson was actually eating from a buffet when he was fined).

Are you trying to derail the thread?

IClaudine · 13/06/2023 08:12

He is no more honest than any other philanderer before him. He has lied flagrantly, flamboyantly, to save his marriage, and given how little else he’s prepared to do for it, one must conclude that he doesn’t put a very great premium on telling the truth

Zoe Williams in 2008. How prophetic.

We have to trust that the Police will act with impartiality, Starmer was rightly investigated and found to have committed no crime.

...unlike Sunak and Johnson plus over 100 FPN's in Downing St, some for multiple offences.

If you have new evidence, hand it to Durham police? or show us?

Yes... next!

Seriously, the thread title does lend itself to almost anything to do with Bojo.... and thats a very wide remit.

IClaudine · 13/06/2023 08:16

@Clavinova do you think Johnson lied to the House. Yes or no?

Do pack in the derailing attempts, @ Clavinova, they're so blatant that it's really rather sad

Oh, do stop trying to bully posters who have a different opinion to you Kiwano. You tried to bully derxa - and yet you didn't find NHS anecdotes posted earlier in the thread 'irrelevant' - now we have classroom anecdotes as well.

Barrels being scraped again.

Johnson is a liar. You know it, we know it, everyone knows it. You thought it was all a fuss about nothing, that it would all go away and that Johnson would survive. You were so very wrong. Admit it!

LauraNicolaides · 13/06/2023 08:22

Johnson is unique for having damaged, as a predictable consequence of his own actions: the House of Commons, the House of Lords, the office of Prime Minister, the Conservative Party and himself. He's also damaged the UK internally (its politics, economy and society) as well as its external reputation. He's divided UK society into polarised tribes like never before. He's attacked the UK's highest courts and the rule of law.

A catalogue of former schools, employers, MPs, colleagues and girlfriends denounce him as a bad actor - self-interested, chaotic, unreliable, dishonest and a rule-breaker.

How did the UK's system of government become so degraded that it was possible for such a man ever to touch the levers of power. And how did a chunk of the UK electorate become so impressionable that it could ever support such a man.

IClaudine · 13/06/2023 08:24

'Derailing' is Bozo thread speak for disagreeing and providing inconvenient evidence suoporting that.

PerkingFaintly · 13/06/2023 08:30

Thrilled to see you want a debate, Janiie!

So, back to my inconvenient evidence about Pincher, and Grant Shapps' comments that people inside and outside the Tory party don't miss Johnson's endless dramas.

I can remind you in more detail if you like?

Rhondaa · 13/06/2023 08:32

Honestly such ott, melodramatic statements. What is it about this successful man that rattles you all so. Damaged the UK reputation my arse. We'll have Sir Korma and Ange doing that in bucketfuls soon enough though.

heartsinvisiblefury · 13/06/2023 08:34

@Janiie the question should be what is it about this liar that impresses you so??
