Channelling more Trump:

Boris Johnson said the privileges committee finding against him set a “dangerous and unsettling precedent”.
“I am now being forced out of parliament by a tiny handful of people, with no evidence to back up their assertions, and without the approval even of Conservative party members let alone the wider electorate.”
He said the Conservative Party had time to “recover its mojo and its ambition and to win the next election” and that he had been looking forward to providing “enthusiastic support” from the backbenches.
“Harriet Harman’s committee has set out to make that objective completely untenable”, he said.
“The Committee’s report is riddled with inaccuracies and reeks of prejudice but under their absurd and unjust process I have no formal ability to challenge anything they say.”

Newspaper journalist on BBC just speculated there could be more resignations this evening.

Is this the beginning of the end ?
.. let's hope so

Agreed.
Nadine says there's a reason but won't speak about it now.Confused

Nads and Boris
Sitting in a tree
Definitely not at a COVID party...

cakeorwine · 09/06/2023 20:39

Is he forgetting that there were other MPs on the Committee?

jgw1 · 09/06/2023 20:40

But he only had a few sandwiches with some essential work colleagues.
If that's what people call a party then I am Keir's beer.

KnitMePurlMe · 09/06/2023 20:40

I wouldn’t write him off - he’s a vicious, cruel Machiavellian back stabber. He’ll have a plan (like taking Dorres seat?).

toomuchlaundry · 09/06/2023 20:40

Can they rescind his Honours List?

Nowwheresmykeys · 09/06/2023 20:41

Absolute mystery to me why this lying, racist , bigoted, corrupt, law breaking moral vacumn was so popular with the British public.

Doesn't really say much for us a nation does it?

I'm sure he'll carry on his world wide grifting tour now.

Kendodd · 09/06/2023 20:41

Thing is, Boris Johnson give a shit about anything except Boris Johnson, he will quite happily take the entire Tory party down with him. I look forward to seeing his stone throwing.

Kiwano · 09/06/2023 20:42

He seems to be particularly furious that it was a committee chaired by a woman that has found against him. He just can't handle the concept of powerful women having any sort of authority over him.

the80sweregreat · 09/06/2023 20:43

I hope he brings it all crashing around Rishi's big old boots !

KnitMePurlMe · 09/06/2023 20:43

@Kendodd that would be utterly utterly wonderful - I would love to see the end of all of them.

BelleHathor · 09/06/2023 20:43

He's playing chess. Resign now, Tories defeated next year by Labour who due to the upcoming recession won't be able to do much to improve people's lives. Boris chills for a couple of years away from the upcoming mess. Rakes in money from private events, then rides back in to rescue the Tories. Despite the buffoon reputation, he is extremely calculated and Machiavellian.

cakeorwine · 09/06/2023 20:43

If he is not appealing the report, I wonder if it will be published soon with its findings?

Kendodd · 09/06/2023 20:44

Couldn't agree more. His character has been crystal clear for years.

EffortlessDesmond · 09/06/2023 20:44

The real reasons are probably a whole lot less interesting. He and Nadine are toast. Boris will earn squillions on the speaker circuits. The tories need some time in opposition, frankly, if only to consider their policies for 2030 and the world then.

Would these be Boris supporters then? Can’t really understand why anyone else would resign.

romatheroamer · 09/06/2023 20:44

Dramatic but, you know, it's all a bit squalid. We need a general election.

the80sweregreat · 09/06/2023 20:44

Oh, he is calculating for sure
But for now , I'd take a hit on the lot of them

Dymaxion · 09/06/2023 20:44

I wonder who is advising him at the moment ?

Probably Michael Gove !

Can they rescind his Honours List?

Don't think so. Until I read this thread I had been wondering whether his resignation was the price extracted for getting his honours list through, which could possibly be intended to facilitate his slide into lucrative post-MP deals

Now I understand better and am left wondering how MPs who were denied peerages in this list to avoid any by elections right now. And now two bye elections gone by at once.

beeonmybonnett · 09/06/2023 20:45

will the investigation into partygate continue or will it just stop if he’s no longer an MP?
