Ukrainian surrogacy in Ireland

This lady has used the help of a Ukrainian surrogate to grow her family, and is also sharing her journey on social media. Sharing to wish them luck on their return journey home ☘️

I believe this is also a journey Rosanna Davison (former miss world?) has undertaken although not in current circumstances.

‘I just want to get home’ – Irish couple and their newborn son shelter from bombs in Ukraine

Early last week, with her newborn baby asleep in her Kyiv hotel room, Jane Cunningham was awoken by a siren from her phone — an air-raid alert had been triggered, as Russian missiles and drones headed for the Ukrainian capital.

This is a grim story. The purchasers should be ashamed. That poor mother, I feel so sorry for her and her baby.

There are issues around donor eggs, especially as often it is done as part of a shared treatment agreement, woman 1 gets her treatment subsided by woman 2 in exchange for eggs.

There are massive implications in that.

I agree.

Im not in charge of the couple’s social media btw.

I do take the points being made that some comments from the article from the commissioning parents can be construed as being in quite bad taste.

I appreciate also that doing this in wartime may not be the best look.

It's not a good look because it is a bad thing. They have done a bad thing. So it looks bad. Because it is bad.

Maybe the supporters of surrogacy should offer to be altruistic surrogate themselves.

Or explain why they won't do it.

I would have thought in Ireland after the relatively recent knowledge of the Mother and Baby home adoption scandal would be a bit more attune to why this s wrong.

Sickening and exploitative behaviour. The fact that they picked the mother from a, war torn, impoverished country makes it even.worse. the poor baby. OP are you blind or just plain stupid to find this a warm fuzzy story?

@Deeocal I'm sorry but this does not sit right with me. Do you think it's OK to leave your own child potentially an orphan? I do not agree with surrogacy especially surrogacy involving a birth mother & baby in an active war zone. I did look at the women's Instagram & I can't believe the couple went to a war zone & left her little girl behind. If I were in their shoes I would be thanking God for the child they have. @Deeocal why did you come on mumsnet with the story?
