Ukrainian surrogacy in Ireland

Deeocal · 08/05/2023 20:17

This lady has used the help of a Ukrainian surrogate to grow her family, and is also sharing her journey on social media. Sharing to wish them luck on their return journey home ☘️

I believe this is also a journey Rosanna Davison (former miss world?) has undertaken although not in current circumstances.

‘I just want to get home’ – Irish couple and their newborn son shelter from bombs in Ukraine

Early last week, with her newborn baby asleep in her Kyiv hotel room, Jane Cunningham was awoken by a siren from her phone — an air-raid alert had been triggered, as Russian missiles and drones headed for the Ukrainian capital.

The troll hunting here is odious. I am still here.

the lady in the article has stated that her surrogate has given her the greatest gift. I do not think for one second that we can underestimate what she has done for this couple.

I honestly thought you were a troll and not a genuine poster..

I can't believe you lack the awareness to understand why we would all find this awful. It's quite obviously exploitation- literally buying the BABY of someone who does not have many options in a very vulnerable situation. This couple are basically benefitting from women being trapped in a war zone.

frankgu · 09/05/2023 06:09

This makes me really uncomfortable. The way it's been sold as a "journey" isn't right.

Throwncrumbs · 09/05/2023 06:11

BattenDownTheHens · 08/05/2023 22:12

The surrogate isn’t the mother though is she? She carried the baby but it wasn’t a baby made with her own egg.

So it was her own egg? Or is that what she told you? Do you really believe that 🙄

There was a gay Irish couple that did this recently too, they also sold their story to media… is there anything people will not keep private anymore!

toomuchlaundry · 09/05/2023 06:17

Babies born from donor egg or sperm now have the right to know who the donors are.

There is a reason many laws have changed over the years. It is because it is recognised that how a baby is created can impact them for life.

In the past it was all about the adoptive parents not the baby or birth mother. Quite rightly things have changed. It should be the same in respect of surrogacy. Babies are not commodities and neither are women’s wombs

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/05/2023 06:22

"I’m quite a determined person,” she adds with a laugh. “Even a war wasn’t going to stop me from having a second baby.”

There aren't words. No, actually there is one. Gobshite.

MN has a very loud anti-surrogacy subset of posters, They cannot see surrogacy as acceptable in any context.

Even if you’re not against surrogacy in general, this situation must give you pause.

Neurodiversitydoctor · 09/05/2023 06:28

This is exploitation, I hesitate to use the word slavery as the poor mother presumably go paid and had theoretical choice, but it is pretty close to the line. It is certainly akin to prostitution and comodification of women and children. Shocking.

reverseferreting · 09/05/2023 06:30

How sickening even without the social media angle.

Deeocal · 08/05/2023 23:04

Well what should they have done @unfortunateevents ?

They should have contented themselves with the wonderful child they already had, like all of us who are one and done, not by choice.

You seem a little confused about what Troll Hunting is.
Nobody has accused you of being a Troll, the majority of people just don’t agree with you

@unfortunateevents i know of the couple through mutual friends and support their decision to do this. As I said on the thread, I wish them well and wanted others to join me in this.

Don't be disingenuous, you're trying to get followers for them. I suspect you run their socials and are targeted on follower numbers. Piece of nonsense. But then, what do you expect from people traffickers?

Throwncrumbs · 09/05/2023 06:11

The clue is in “gestational surrogacy” @Throwncrumbs

ItsBritneyBitchhhh · 09/05/2023 10:02

Not being funny but what sort of sick person sees a woman in a war torn country and think, ‘yep. She’ll provide a baby for me.’ And then the fact that they’ve come to the media to sell their story is just disgusting.

Is it not enough that the birth mother had two miscarriages. Now she’s given birth and the baby will just be whisked away whilst she stays in Ukraine where bombs are going off. And now the story is in the media as if this family are the victims? Exploitation at it’s finest

EversoDisorganised · 09/05/2023 10:08

I'm not against surrogacy in all circumstances (although IMO there are very few acceptable situations) but this is just appalling, and why all the publicity. This couple should be hanging their heads in shame.

A shame to see there is negativity here for those who are struggling with infertility.

Rosanna Davison had a similar journey and do not believe she received such negativity.

Nobody is criticising people because they are infertile but being infertile does not give you carte blanche to exploit others. I suffered with infertility for years. I never considered buying a baby.

HistoryFanatic · 09/05/2023 10:33

unfortunateevents · 08/05/2023 21:11

OP, you have started two threads on this topic now. Care you share your thoughts on it with us?

I wonder if it is the woman who has paid for the surrogate or the owner of the surrogacy company?

HistoryFanatic · 09/05/2023 10:36

Codlingmoths · 09/05/2023 04:53

Imagine them telling this baby the story when they were older. ‘There were actual bombs falling but we wanted you so much we didn’t care!!’ Child: what about this woman who gave birth to me? Parents: oh we left her there. Ummm, maybe she likes being bombed.

ugh.

Sadly could have been killed by the Russians by that point. 😔

HistoryFanatic · 09/05/2023 10:37

I suffered from infertility for years but didn't do this. This is seriously funked up.

Deeocal · 09/05/2023 12:32

Im not in charge of the couple’s social media btw.

I do take the points being made that some comments from the article from the commissioning parents can be construed as being in quite bad taste.

I appreciate also that doing this in wartime may not be the best look.

Then do it in person. Why make a thread here to do it?

Deeocal · 09/05/2023 12:42

@JaneJeffer yes point taken I thought it was an extraordinary story but obviously not for the right reasons !

toomuchlaundry · 09/05/2023 14:04

For posters who don't have a problem with this, how do you think the child will feel when told the story of their birth? Not sure I would see my parents in a very good light

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/05/2023 14:09

I appreciate also that doing this in wartime may not be the best look.

Renting the womb of a women living in a war zone while bombs are dropping and her country is going to utter shit doesn't exactly scream full, enthusiastic, free consent, does it? It does scream total and complete desperation though.

And since it's all documented so effectively in the press, that poor child will know all about it. I can't imagine the guilt, unless she grows up selfish and self-serving. Apples falling from trees and all that.

I’d imagine former Miss World Rosanna Davison would have a fairly strong PR team behind her quashing negative stories and online comments about many aspects of her (and her husband’s) life.
