The presenter is the wonderful Anita Rani.

Right. For the professionally offended I'll reword it and say he's MISSING all three of them. Now go and do something useful and stop looking for something to be negative about.

For the professionally offended, and bereaved parents, two rather different groups. But yes let’s leave it there, it’s just a turn of phrase I do understand.

SoTedious · 06/05/2023 15:17

And Greta Thunberg isn't pronounced 'Gretta Tun-berg'.

It's not a mispronunciation, they used the wrong language.

(Also I think the BBC would pronounce her name like that - they have a pronunciation department to help them get things like that right.)

I must look out for the Patrick Grant programme about Coronation tailoring mentioned a few times this morning. In the mean time, you reminded me of this cartoon which I saw years ago and have just found again thanks to the wonder of Google.

It's here
BBC iPlayer - Coronation Tailors: Fit for a King

Coronation Tailors: Fit for a King

Patrick Grant visits a factory sewing thousands of ceremonial uniforms for the coronation.

Another possibility is that the notes to accompany the procession etc were in preparation a while ago, before the name change, and with everything else going on, no-one thought to go back to page 265 of the notes to update them.

Yes I'm sure this is what happened (no one at the BBC would deliberately get something like that wrong). My previous post was in response to a PP's idea that it's fine for English speakers to use the English name. Of course that's fine, but in BBC terms it was a mistake.

Well no, because William and Kate were only there a few weeks ago, after the name change.

WeWereInParis · 06/05/2023 15:22

That's a beautiful dress Anita Rani is wearing!

mixedrecycling · 06/05/2023 15:23

The Rest is History has done three interesting podcasts on coronations, the first - looking at where the traditions and symbolism of coronations come from. The next two on disastrous and shambolic English (then British) coronations!

327. Coronations: The Deep History

The roots of the coronation ritual are fabulously ancient: certain elements of the ceremony are vestiges from the later Roman Empire, others have their origi...

I'm not sure what you mean by this - William and Kate would obviously know about the name change but they didn't write Clare Balding's script.

Sunbird24 · 06/05/2023 15:34

No, but her script would have to have been written after they visited (unless the BBC knew in advance about their planned visit, and also before it was announced about the official reversion to the Welsh name?)

MustardGreenAndPlum · 06/05/2023 15:44

Lol

SoTedious · 06/05/2023 15:49

I don't think their visit makes the mistake more or less likely really, it's just an oversight that none of the several people who would have seen that script picked up on.

Watching this I'm thinking what a huge shame it is that Harry's children are not there to really experience this. Even though they're young, I'm sure it would have made an impression. They've missed out on something of huge family importance. One wonders what their titles will really mean to them when it's so removed from context and experience.

Their titles will likely just mean the opportunity of massively cashing in across the pond and round the world on their RF links. H's idiocy & Megan's bloody mindedness have deprived their children of an incredible experience. Even if they had been in London, their parents could have let them join in with family celebrations. I didn't see any other RF children their age except the Wales and working ones.

NurseCranesRolodex · 06/05/2023 15:59

spottybug · 06/05/2023 14:40

For all we know they chat all the time on the phone

Really? With KC worrying about "H" recording the conversation. "H" has fecked up colossally!!!!! They have alienated their children leaving them on the sidelines of world class massive family events. They will forever be on the sidelines with only 1 grandparent in their lives. Utterly pathetic, setting them up for sadness and resentment in adulthood.

Hawkins003 · 06/05/2023 16:02

Reading with intrigue, and God bless our king 👑

Sudeko · 06/05/2023 16:03

Well, i can see it from both sides. He thought going all out would bring them down a peg or hundred but the house always wins and it seems like he has arrived at that realisation in coming along today.

That the notes about them going couldn't have been prepared a long time ago and just not updated

the80sweregreat · 06/05/2023 16:08

Just seen footage online ( Twitter etc) of the ' grim reaper ' at Westminster Abbey! We all missed that one on here.

I think that may have been the Queen?

Oh yes I see what you mean! Bit dim sorry 🤦‍♀️

Thanks, had already started watching on catch up! I wish I'd seen it before today as it would have added a lot of interest to the parade. What a fantastic programme. The skill and commitment involved from all concerned was amazing.

Casuaala · 06/05/2023 16:27

Thanks for the lovely thread and your company this morning everyone.
Shame there are always a few who can't 'read the room' and try to derail lovely threads rather than going off and starting their own, but lovely (3) thread(s) on the whole.
[Cheers]

Yes, I agree completely. Just had a look around MN and there are some real batshit threads out there!

I cannot see Harry and Meghan wanting to be King Henry and Queen Meghan. Besides, that wouldn't go down with the rest of the royal family or the public but Andrew would definitely not be accepted as our King. Could you imagine?

Oh, I think they would love it. After all, the majority of his bitching and whining has been down to jealousy and bitterness that he's the 'spare'. Nasty pair who will never reign - thankfully.

diddl · 06/05/2023 17:00

Yes I can't help thinking that they'd be back fast enough if the "top job" was available!

Was nice to see Edward & Sophie in positions of prominence.

RoobarbandCustud · 06/05/2023 17:06

Did anyone notice Louis had disappeared during the service - he must have been brought back at the end. Very neatly done - and a perfect solution avoid to boring him to distraction.
