well 10 years time you will have George

Sugarfree23 · 07/05/2023 09:18

10 years George will only be 19.
They'll probably want him to go to Uni, and get military experience before becoming a full-time royal.

Charles did uni & 6 years in the Navy.
William did uni & 7 years in the military mix of army & raf.
Harry didn't do uni but did 10 years in the military.

So really it will be nearer 20 years before George will become a full-time working royal (if we haven't had a revolution by then)

When do you think the revolution is going to happen?

CruCru · 07/05/2023 09:31

These have been great threads. I watched the coronation by myself while my husband did other things and my children weren’t interested. It was nice to have the company.

Agreed. I was the only enthusiast in this household! I enjoyed this thread yesterday. Many thanks, especially to the OP.

That I don't know, there just seems to be less and less support for the Monarchy but they'd need to be replaced by something.
I do think William will be king, I'm really not sure about George.

Chatillon · 07/05/2023 09:49

There will not be a revolution. The monarchy will evolve, but it will not disappear. It will be Charles and William who scale it down over the next 30 years.

Revolution is a big word by the way. That is something done in Russia, Cuba or Iran. Revolution is not something we will see in the UK (which has been largely right of centre for nearly 45 years).

Turefu · 07/05/2023 10:01

@Sugarfree23 That’s why I think making Louise and James full working royals can be a viable option. They’ll be ready well before Wales’s children. They were risen in understanding they’ll won’t be working royals, but circumstances changed. Still, they are royals.

Sugarfree23 · 07/05/2023 11:50

@Chatillon how else would you describe scraping a hereditary monarchy?
It happened in France and Germany too more and more people seem to be anti the hereditary monarchy and want an elected president of some kind.

From Wikipedia: In political science, a revolution is a fundamental and relatively sudden change in political power and political organization which occurs when the population revolts against the government, typically due to perceived oppression (political, social, economic) or political incompetence.

So yeah, probably best not to go hoping for a revolution.

Maybe we could go down the normal referendum route for constitutional change, like other modern democracies, rather than looking at 18th century France as a model to emulate?

Barbadossunset · 07/05/2023 12:16

So yeah, probably best not to go hoping for a revolution.

From time to time I’ve seen on here calls for a revolution, but when questioned as to what form this will take the posters do not answer.
There have been some very strong anti monarchy posts so maybe some posters are hoping to see a re-enaction of the cellar at Yekaterinburg.

Sugarfree23 · 07/05/2023 12:42

However it happens referendum or something else I don't believe we will still have a heirdatory monarchy by the end of this century. Its years are numbered.
William will becomes king, George probably not

Because at the time they were born boys took precedence over girls. Was the case until ?2016? so Charlotte comes after George but before Louis. But it wasn't made retrospective.

Aah ok. I remember the rule being changed but didn't realise that it only applied from George onwards.

Ellmau · 07/05/2023 23:29

*I'd think Charles / William are more likely to turn to Zara & Peter to plug any gaps in the Firm than to turn to Louise & James who are both still very young.

I also think the York girls would be very put out if their younger cousins were asked and they weren't*

Zara and Peter already have their own lives and careers they probably wouldn't want to give up. The York girls technically do as well, plus atm they have very young children.

I thought they said only working royals would be on the balcony, but Lady Louise was quite prominent there...

Sugarfree23 · 08/05/2023 00:34

Fair point about Louise and James being on the balcony. But i still don't think either of them would be in a position to step up in the next 5-10 years, between their education, getting some real work experience and then having children.

The Yorks are tainted by Andrew and have very young kids.

Which leaves the Philips, money talks, how much will they earn in their careers vs working Royals and how does the stress levels and work / life balance compare. Would they want to take the stress off their mum?

The balcony was an odd mix, i think the Kents where there, along with all the pages and Camilla's ladies in waiting. They do the balcony after Trooping the Colour? I think that might give more hints to the future.

Sugarfree23 · 08/05/2023 01:36

I've just read that Louis was meant to be in shorts. I think a 5yo strop over shorts could what made them late...Nice to know I'm not the only mum who has a kid who strops over clothes.

mixedrecycling · 08/05/2023 03:55

James & Louise were there as the children - still in education - of working royals. The Kents, their children grown up and doing whatever they are doing, and probably not representing the monarch much longer due to age.

I doubt any will be on the balcony for much longer. Which works well for the slimmed down approach.

I love the idea of this - who hasn't been through it?! But his trousers matched his top too well to be a last minute choice!

Sugarfree23 · 08/05/2023 06:44

Look closer the trousers are black the tunic jacket is blue.

He had a long military frock coat, can't imagine it with shorts!

Sugarfree23 · 08/05/2023 08:46

It's reported that's what Sophie said to Kate on the balcony by some lip reader expert. And Royal etiquette has it boys under 8 wear shorts.

So it could well be that is what has made them late.

Willmafrockfit · 08/05/2023 09:33

shorts would be so weird with the frock coat

Willmafrockfit · 08/05/2023 09:33

these lip readers are so prying

polkadotdalmation · 08/05/2023 09:36

Hilarious about Louis stropping because of shorts. Explains all the stressed faces of his parents at the beginning. Lots of smiles at the end. I'm sure it was a phew, thank god it's over and we didn't trip up, moment.

Sugarfree23 · 08/05/2023 09:37

Look back at the Christmas photos of him coat and shorts.
I think they'd have more likely to have teamed the tunic coat with navy rather than black. It wasn't until I read the comment that I went back and looked he's wearing black trousers.
