Song lyrics that always get you

Just listening to a Spotify playlist and Time After Time came on... That line

"If you fall I will catch you, I will be waiting. Time after time."

It just always gives me a little well of emotion. My son needs me so much, I think it's just that feeling of need to be there.

There are so many lyrics that get me no matter how many times I hear them.... What are yours?

"My heart was broken
My heart was broken

You saw it, you claimed it
You touched it, you saved it

While I'm worth
My room on this Earth
I will be with you"

The Proclaimers, Sunshine on Leith. Makes me cry, every time.

Me too! Such beautiful lyrics

Not something I'd say anywhere apart from here, due to the person who sang it, but since the first time I heard it as a child, I have cried at "Two Little Boys".

"Did you think I would leave you dying, when there's room on my horse for two"

Totally agree - always got me when I was a child.

Monsters, James Blunt:

Oh, well I'll read a story to you
Only difference is this one is true
The time has gone
I folded your clothes on the chair
I hope you sleep well, don't be scared
The time has gone
So here it is.

I heard it for the first time on the radio driving home from having said goodbye to my dad for the last time 😢.

@yogaretreat
always thought that was a lovely song and I remember the video when she was sweeping up in a trailer or something ? Beautiful song

I'm slightly embarrassed to say this, but John Denver's Annie's Song

Come let me love you
Let me give my life to you
Let me drown in your laughter
Let me die in your arms
Let me lay down beside you
Let me always be with you
Come let me love you
Come love me again

And You Raise me up always gets me.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be.

And tiny dancer Elton John - such a lovely song

ToBeOrNotToBee · 05/04/2023 22:14

Singer 1 "You took my dreams away, when I 1st found you".
Singer 2 "I kept them with me babe, I put them with my own, can't make it out alone, I built my dreams around you".

Fairytale of New York

Lewis Capaldi, Before you go.
The line:
So, before you go, was there something I could've said to make your heart beat better?

It just reminds me of my ExH, DF to our two DS's. He took his own life 4 years ago and every time I hear it I just sob...

samsmum2 · 05/04/2023 22:15

I'm so desperately sorry to hear that, sending strength and love to you all.

GlumShoe · 05/04/2023 22:15

Nobody Home by Pink Floyd. The whole song. From the first line, "I got a little black book with my poems in..." Cries 🥺

AlrightJulia · 05/04/2023 22:16

"Things you forget to say
Will haunt you
Down here a million days
I know you'll get me through
You don't need to stay
Because I'll never be alone
Do you cry anymore?"
Beautiful Day by 3 Colours Red

"You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one"
Imagine by John Lennon

All of Shine on You Crazy Diamond.

It feels like it was written specifically for my dad. He recently passed and I can't stop thinking of him, that crazy Diamond.

The green fields of France - the Fureys version

It has moved me to tears since I was a child. It's about a man that comes across the grave of a soldier who died aged 19 in WW1 and sings. The voice and the words just hurt my heart. It's very powerful . I have it on my playlist and I don't know why because I cry every time I hear it.

Last verse

and i can't help but wonder oh willy mcbride
do all those who lie here know why they died
did you really believe them when they told you the cause
did you really believe that this war would end wars
well the suffering, the sorrow, the glory, the shame
the killing and dying it was all done in vain
oh willy mcbride it all happened again
and again, and again, and again, and again

Everything about The Day Before You Came, by ABBA. And I don't know why!

MrsHughesPinny · 05/04/2023 22:21

I have a few that get me every single time.

“I know some day you’ll have a beautiful life, I know you will be the sun in somebody else’s sky but why can’t it be mine?” The despair in Eddie’s voice in that one. Brutal.

“She said that there will always be a soft spot in my cardiac arrest. And I will love you until I die from all of this. And something tells me I will die alone.” I could choose one of hundreds by The Gaslight Anthem, genius stuff.

And I’ve seen Biffy Clyro live four times and shamelessly blubbed through Machines each and every time.

That one becomes quite difficult to enjoy when you know how vile John Denver was to Annie Martell…

"Till it eats the heart from your sole
Keeps down the sound of your
Silent sigh "

Badly drawn boy

Dance with my Father Again, Luther van Dross. Not for me ( my Dad was a very difficult man) but for my children. DH and I are in our 70s, in very good health so far, and very close to out adult DC. I can't bear to think about how devastated they'll be when we're gone.

Clawdy · 05/04/2023 22:28

" It would be so fine to see your face at my door...."
Carole King, So Far Away. Guess everyone knows a face they would love to see.

Yesterday when we were walking
you talked about your mum and dad
what they did that made you happy
What they did that made you sad

'You're gone from here,
Soon you will disappear,
Fading into beautiful light'
❤️😢

OhOGee · 05/04/2023 22:29

Wherever you will go. This part in particular.

And maybe, I'll find out
A way to make it back someday
To watch you, to guide you
Through the darkest of your days.

My Immortal by Evanescence

DH suffered a catastrophic brain injury in a car crash and lived in a nursing home for several years until he died as a result of his injuries. He was obviously very badly disabled and didn’t know me any more.
I chose this song for his funeral - it kind of described how I’d felt through the whole thing.
I can’t listen to it now.

My Immortal is beautiful. So intense, I can’t listen to it unless I don’t mind feeling that sort of way!
