I've just seen a "butter board" on another thread and feel a bit sick? Who thought smashing butter all over a bit of wood might be appetising? 🤢

Also hate boba tea. Vile little bubbles of pus. Yuk

Actually I think they’ve shown that the cells in wood actually help against microbes. Plastic boards when new are fine but the tiny knife marks harbour germs which just multiple.

Which experts? Most actually seem to agree that wood is more hygienic than plastic for chopping boards.

Matcha

All the cakes/ biscuits, sorry ‘cookies’ 🙄 in coffee shops being gluten free. Yes, I know there are some people who are truly intolerant and it is nice to cater for them, but GF cakes etc are generally dry and unpleasantly gritty.

Cakes that are 1ft tall, and covered in an inch of icing

TeaAndCrumpets7 · 26/03/2023 23:11

Napkins between the food and the plate. Why? Just why?

Yes!! I hate this. Why indeed!

Defender90 · 26/03/2023 23:21

Tapas. So much oil.

Not really a food trend, but why do folk say "tumeric" when it's "turmeric"? Gets on my wick.

Where I shop for spices I ask for haldi.

Fake meat based dishes instead of vegetable based veggie choices. This is becoming huge.

Totally agree and also what a pp says about veggie meals now vegan so no decent cheese.

It's amazing how veganism has taken over so quickly and completely when vegetarianism never did. Now eating over processed, fake meat with nothing immediately recognisable as food in it seems to be what it's all about. Ugh.

HelloBunny · 27/03/2023 03:17

Elaborately iced celebration cakes, especially kids ones. I just want nice cake!

itsalllighthearted · 27/03/2023 03:38

I'm always confused by food descriptions like 'hand cut chips'. As though the fact that a potato was chopped up by a hand makes the chips taste better?

ImSweetEnoughDarlin · 27/03/2023 03:42

Butter candles are the latest monstrosity I've seen.

Beargrumps22 · 27/03/2023 04:11

Had the ick ordering a vegan breakfast in Morrisons and it came with a dollop of pureed avocado who the heck thought vegan sausages hash browns mushrooms etc would be enhanced by a dollop of that disgusting yuk!!

Also 'pan fried', well what else would you use? Do you mean shallow fried?

One I have not seen for a while but I always hated was 'stir fry' at buffet / canteen type places.

Stir fry needs to be cooked and eaten ASAP, it is not a type of food to hag around for 20 mins.

beguilingeyes · 27/03/2023 07:13

The cupcake craze baffles me. Way too much sickly icing and usually disappointing dry sponge underneath.
We did, however see a cupcake vending machine in Chicago...that was pretty cool.

notprincehamlet · 27/03/2023 07:50

Yes! And 'meat free' food that isn't chicken/fish/pork etc. Just tell us what it is!

nuttynet · 27/03/2023 07:57

Butter boards seem vile to me

A nice bread basket and cubes of butter in a dish with knife for spreading, are perfectly fine. Thanks

RampantIvy · 27/03/2023 08:24

I have never come across a butter board, and had to google it.

I don't tend to eat out in trendy places though. I'm more of an Indian/Chinese/Thai restaurant visitor.

pentatws · 27/03/2023 08:27

Grazing boards. Who wouldn't want a brownie covered in pâté, or a cracker that's gone soft because it's soaked up the juice of the strawberry it's been artfully placed next to.
Also seeing everyone picking through it to get what they want is so off putting, see also buffets.

Truffle fries, they taste off and DH loves them so I can no longer pinch his chips.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 27/03/2023 08:35

Skanetos absolutely! Even the thought of chocolate with sea salt makes me feel really sick!

IHeartGeneHunt · 27/03/2023 08:37

@ImSweetEnoughDarlin I just had to Google butter candles and what the fuck is that all about! Who wants a sooty wick in their butter?!

Tubbyinthehottub · 27/03/2023 08:39

Grazing tables/boards are absolutely DISGUSTING.

Not keen on the new trend for cakes made to look like shop sandwiches in a triangle box.

A lot of pubs are doing small plates these days. It's confusing, I want a proper sized lunch or dinner. I don't want to have to guess and it pushes the price up and never seems to make a proper meal. Unless it's tapas.

Tealsofa · 27/03/2023 08:41

Cakes or chocolate sculptures

So much faffing about to make inedible food

Also when watching cake videos, they soak the cake with sugar syrup, it looks horrible

RestingMurderousFace · 27/03/2023 08:54

Anything that’s been handled too much while being prepared. Cook my food but don’t fucking fondle it!
