I've just seen a "butter board" on another thread and feel a bit sick? Who thought smashing butter all over a bit of wood might be appetising? 🤢

Also hate boba tea. Vile little bubbles of pus. Yuk

The obsession with putting chili or sweet chili in/on everything.

Watched a video yesterday for what looked like an amazing garlicky cheesy bread.... Was all set to make it

Then he threw in loads of chili. WHY?

It happens with everything I see. I go out to order a meal and nearly everything has chili 🌶️

Went to (don't judge) get a ready meal for our tea the other night when it was just me and the eldest as a treat, and everything I fancied from the MyProtien range was advertising the fact it was spicy. Why for the love of God does a lasagne need to be fucking spicy?

And the inference that if you don't like chili you're somehow lesser (also applies to not liking hot curry) wtf is that about?

I will die on this hill.

(Also, see ginger and especially gousto meals....)

Sweet brioche buns used for savoury content. All wrong.

Ditto to chorizo in everything. Seems to have overtaken goat’s cheese in that respect.

CornishGem1975 · 27/03/2023 09:17

Salted caramel anything.

Not really a food trend, but why do folk say "tumeric" when it's "turmeric"? Gets on my wick.

Yes!!
It's really annoys me

Like choritso instead of choreetho

Basil and cinnamon in everything. Foul taste and needs a warning for allergies. Cinnamon especially as it can cause swelling and obstruction.

Cherrysoup · 27/03/2023 10:45

Food served on wooden anything. How can the boards be hygienic? Icky.

SecondhandMuck · 27/03/2023 10:47

People always mention cupcakes on these threads. But cupcakes haven't been a trendy food since 2012.

the Americans stick cinnamon in everything. They're obsessed!

Food served in anything that isn't a bowl or plate

bluebell34567 · 27/03/2023 10:55

blueberries. i cant understand how people like them.

Same, they taste of mould, imo, even when fresh.

DH and I were thoroughly cinnamoned out after a week in New England one October.

The last straw was coming down to breakfast one morning to find that they had sprinkled the fresh fruit with the stuff.

CuteSnowpeoples · 27/03/2023 11:32

Matcha is over 1000 years old so hardly a trend! Such a lovely drink

it being an ancient Japanese drink doesn't mean it's not a new trend in the UK though.

Grin

Such a weird thing to do. Leave it on the side so all the cinnamon nutters can dust their own fruit with the stuff!

JacobsCrackersCheeseFogg · 27/03/2023 11:50

It's been mentioned before but bubble tea. Ick. Salted caramel too. Beyond Meat burgers. Bleugh. Vegan cheese.

We have vegan days but use fruit, veg, seeds, pulses etc.

I am a big fan of plates, knives and forks.

(I like Halloumi)

Botheredland · 27/03/2023 11:53

@Snowdrop90 the matcha you see in coffee shops isn't how you're actually supposed to drink matcha.
It's just meant to be matcha and hot water..not with milk or foam or sugar..granted it does still taste like grass but the matcha lattes are disgusting

GADDay · 27/03/2023 12:03

Mayo on everything.

Mayo has no place on sushi or pizza or anything.

CornedBeef451 · 27/03/2023 12:11

Brioche. Can't stand it and it's everywhere. I don't want a sweet burger bun!

newtb · 27/03/2023 12:26

Crushed potatoes. Just, why? If I want to crush my potatoes, I can do it myself. If I want to cut them into pieces and stick my fork in them, I will. I prefer to have the choice.

RampantIvy · 27/03/2023 12:27

It's not the same. Crushed potatoes with plenty of butter or EV olive oil are gorgeous.

StarlightLady · 27/03/2023 12:52

Food served on slates, wooden boards, impractical dog bowl type dishes and anything else that is not designed for eating.

Cakes that are 1ft tall, and covered in an inch of icing

Oh and massive cakes that aren't cakes

Miss Baker has made the worlds biggest cake
Turns out Miss baker has put a coating of cake over a big blob of polystyrene.

CuteSnowpeoples · 27/03/2023 13:43

Proper ceremonial grade matcha is amazing. Some coffee shops like Starbucks do not use ceremonial grade. It should be a bright green colour. Culinary grade is nice for baking matcha and white chocolate brownies, cookies etc.

RaininSummer · 27/03/2023 13:48

Brioche buns... Revoltingly sweet and wrong. The trend to veganise vegetarian food in pubs and restaurants making it all pretty horrible.
