What food trends can't you stand?

I've just seen a "butter board" on another thread and feel a bit sick? Who thought smashing butter all over a bit of wood might be appetising? 🤢

Also hate boba tea. Vile little bubbles of pus. Yuk

I actually hate "sharing plates". Stopped going to Wagamama because they can only cope with taking one plate out at a time. I'm a vegetarian and don't want to share with my DH. So the food would sit and get cold.

Then they started doing unisex toilets. Men in with women. That was the final straw.

Sourdough

Just coming here to say this

TeaAndCrumpets7 · 25/03/2023 22:45

Cake pops - it’s just crap squashed cake on a stick

Cupcakes - far too much sickly sweet topping, give me a plain old fairy cake instead please

soil / jus / any other pretentious crap

Coleslaw - it just makes me heave 🤢

jaundicedoutlook · 25/03/2023 22:46

Not a ‘trend’ as such, but any restaurant where the waiter says ‘can I explain the menu concept for you?’

PhotoTakenOnAToaster · 25/03/2023 22:48

How all vegetarian food in restaurants now is vegan, so you can’t have anything with proper cheese in or lashings of dairy without also eating meat

I agree @camelfinger

PoshHorseyBird · 25/03/2023 22:51

Salted caramel. On everything! Bleugh!
Avocado. Green tasteless mush. And plastered on toast which is the ultimate insult to toast!
And finally..olives. 🤢🤢🤢

Goldbar · 25/03/2023 22:54

I agree on sharing plates or indeed any food which you're intended to share with someone else in a restaurant. Talk about how to turn a nice meal out into something very stressful as you have to navigate around the social niceties. Should men get more because they are bigger? Does it look petty to halve whatever it is down the middle and take your share at the outset? If you eat more quickly than the other person, can you take more than half? It's just unnecessary stress that gets in the way of enjoying the meal.

Groutyonehereagain · 25/03/2023 22:56

Anything puréed. I’m not a baby FFS!

Baldieheid · 25/03/2023 23:02

Food on anything other than a plate or bowl. Slate, wooden board, basket, whatever - fetch me a bloody plate, I'll transfer the bastarding burger myself.

And on that note...

Brioche buns.

Fucking brioche buns with burgers. I don't want my burger wrapped in goddamned cake. Gimme a bloody bread roll, ffs.

Longsight2019 · 25/03/2023 23:04

Tomahawk steaks. The bone does fuck all other than prevent it going in the pan properly.

Salt Bae.

Donut burgers

Pulled pork on everything.

Grazing boards full of bought in low rent beige food, presented by an arty faffer too proud of their creation.

All reminds me of Coldland:

Coldland

Excellent Parody of the awful 'Iceland' adverts. Perhaps Iceland CEO Malcolm Walker should take note... Vic and Bob... Genius!

Newpuppymummy · 25/03/2023 22:29

Fake meat based dishes instead of vegetable based veggie choices. This is becoming huge.

Absolutely agree!

Glendaruel · 25/03/2023 23:06

Impractical tablewear, slates, wooden boards, putting chips in a basket of bowl so you first have to decant them on to your plate.

RampantIvy · 25/03/2023 23:08

RosesAndHellebores · 25/03/2023 22:06

DH has never quite come to terms with Thai. We both struggle a little with chicken peas and lentils. Probably fads/trends of yesteryear.

Erm. Thai food, chickpeas and lentils aren't food "trends". They are here to stay thankfully.

SnowfallSnowball · 25/03/2023 23:11

People taking pictures of their food in restaurants and posting it on social media. Unless you’re a chef ‘displaying your artistry’ there’s no need, just eat your bloody food!

I realise it’s fuck all to do with me, but really winds me up! 😩

SpecialControlGroup · 25/03/2023 23:12

Food served on anything but plates
Salted caramel
Brioche, fucking brioche. Sweet bread should not be in a savoury dish

Baldieheid · 25/03/2023 23:13

Chips in one of those twee metal buckets that you just KNOW isn't washed between uses.

Milk in a miniature glass milk bottle that sloshes all over the table when you try to pour from it.

Being charged an extra quid for a pathetically small potion of jam when I'm spending a fiver on a scone. Get. To. Feck.

DigleyAndDazey · 25/03/2023 23:16

Izzieloo · 25/03/2023 22:29

Can’t stand my meal in little pots a pot of chips a pot of beans it annoys me .

This this this!

You have to tip it all out so end up with pots all over the table and missing out on parts of the beans/curry etc that get left in the pot. So loads of effort before even starting eating and a smaller portion.

Hate it!

Ha ha, just spotted this and I was a few minutes behind you. I think we could be friends 🤣

ItsNotForYouJen · 25/03/2023 23:28

Most of the above, especially slates/boards and little pots. “Dirty” anything and vomity foam.

Love salted caramel though.

What really gets my goat these days is all the vegetarian options turning into vegan options to tick both boxes. I don’t like meat but I do like real cheese!

Crinkle77 · 25/03/2023 23:42

TheInterceptor · 25/03/2023 21:40

Foamy sauce. Looks like cat sick on the plate. Ugh.

Came on to say that too. Makes me feel 🤮

I agree @camelfinger

Also agree.

Anything presented on a (filthy)wooden platter, drinks in jam jars, chips in mini shopping trolleys. Anything gimmicky really.

Fusion food.

Popped rice on anything other than breakfast cereal.

BridieConvert · 25/03/2023 23:49

Bloody biscoff biscuits in everything!

DarkNecessities · 25/03/2023 23:50

Salted caramel
Cup Cakes

thedogshatonthematt · 26/03/2023 00:03

Snowdrop90 · 25/03/2023 21:49

Not a food but matcha tea / coffee. Pretty sure 95% of those drinking it can’t stand it either

Agreed! I got drawn in by the whole social media trend of getting Matcha Lattes. Like drinking pond water!

Baldieheid · 26/03/2023 00:03

Buffets. Once you've seen one being splattered over by a sneezing nobhead, you'll never unsee it.
