Clemmie Hooper Facing Midwifery Misconduct Hearing

I've not yet seen any other threads on this.

It's not yet clear why there's a heating but it would be interesting to read the decision by the Nursing and Midwifery Council when it's posted online. The hearing ends 8th March.

I'm wondering if the racism she trolled with played out in her work?

I realise I didn’t explicitly mention the fact that she used racist language. Obviously that is central to the whole case. The rest of it is just context. But it never felt as if Clemmie really realised the potential issues of her profession meeting social media, of which her comments on Tattle were the final straw.

Mitchumforthewin · 07/03/2023 13:17

Thank you to @KievsOutTheOven for pointing out & defending my small typo (indeed, as you said, autocorrected on a site with no edit function) I am perfectly aware of the difference of ‘his’ and ‘he is’.
@SchoolTripDrama was there any need to be so patronising and rude and try to correct me? You must have insecurities about your own grammar and spelling to feel the need to show off your own skills on what was clearly an autocorrect error.

Anyway! Back to the horror that is Clemmie Hooper & her vile husband…

I assume Wigan was plucked out of the air because we're all thick oop 'ere and reet thankful fer owt we get given? We've had the internet for a couple of years now and hoping to progress to indoor plumbing before 2025 🤞

Leftoverssandwich · 07/03/2023 13:28

Hopefully you know I was just referring to a previous post! I'm not far from Wigan myself. (Showers are going to BLOW YOUR MIND!)

MarmadukeSpillageEsquire · 07/03/2023 13:30

@Leftoverssandwich oh sorry, I should have tagged the poster; no I certainly didn't think you were being disparaging!

"Showers"??? Witchcraft, ah tell thee!

Mrsherdwick · 07/03/2023 13:46

You softy southerners from Wigan - behave yerselves. You’re not even in Lancashire anymore!11

MarmadukeSpillageEsquire · 07/03/2023 14:53

@Mrsherdwick REPORTED! Wink

You're most welcome to ask mn to check where I'm posting from - though troll hunting on the thread is discouraged. Unless ch is on another obscure holiday, we couldn't possibly be the same person.

I just don't think white women - or any written women- should be excluded from a debate about the cancellation of a skilled professional on the basis that they're not the right colour so couldn't possibly be invoked. We're all involved No tribunal will support your position because it's absurd. They'll have a hearing. They will make recommendations. They will not strike her off because they have a sense of proportion, - something sorely lacking on this thread.

I wasn’t suggesting you were a troll…

You can supply all the character references that you wish from colleagues. But if your allegations relate to your conduct, both professional and personal, then that is where the evidence is going to be drawn from.

doubt she submitted anything from colleagues that said she was nothing short of Florence nightingale….

MarmadukeSpillageEsquire · 07/03/2023 17:55

@checkedcloth yes you're right, but plenty of people under investigation can't get anyone to provide a character reference, and that evidence from colleagues can be damning. So it is relevant - but by no means a major part of the evidence, which as you rightly say rests elsewhere.

I would disagree with this. Midwives are a tight group who discuss their patients and know each other well. They help each other. If one midwife was singling out a type of mother for different treatment I think it would quickly become apparent to her colleagues.

Rubbish. I wouldn’t know if a colleague was treating black women differently, we don’t police each other, we have our own bays, our own labour rooms and we don’t watch each other. Obviously if she was being blatantly racist that would be different but treating someone differently can be very subtle.

we were talking about this at work today and everyone thought that she should be struck off, which is telling. Midwives don’t want someone like this representing the profession. I agree it’s quite likely she won’t be struck off though interestingly a significant number of staff were of the opinion that the nmc will strike her off. That to fail to do so would be seen as condoning racism.

MarmadukeSpillageEsquire · 07/03/2023 19:02

Oh that's really interesting @SoCrossAboutThis

Motorcycleemptyness · 07/03/2023 20:28

Clemmie was racist and should have been called out way before she was on a number of things, not least using the position of a midwife to flog shit to potentially vulnerable women.

she was absolutely right about one thing though: her husband is a grade a twat or whatever she called him. He REALLY is insufferable.

So true. Grade A twat 😂

how embarrassing - her daughters photo in the daily mail to illustrate this sorry tale. wow. all that for a free kitchen/ bathroom / chunky boot

Bookist · 07/03/2023 21:05

So just the token slap on the wrist as we all thought.

yetii · 07/03/2023 21:13

Shocking

SoCrossAboutThis · 07/03/2023 21:18

Wonder how long it will be before she’s back on social media? I’d give it six months! She’ll have “voluntarily removed herself from social media “ to try and look good for this hearing and will be soon back snouting about for freebies.

Bookist · 07/03/2023 22:05

It won't be six months, more like six weeks. I predict a soft opening Instagram post. Something very bland and innocuous just to test the waters. Cue thousands of the 'huns' wetting themselves in excitement and clamouring to welcome her back and the shit show starts all over.

Nedmund · 07/03/2023 22:14

I'll have to remember when I'm not well that I can just discriminate against certain protected groups online. Oh, except my work would just not have that! I wouldn't have a job and I know so because of cases in the past and the excuses people have tried to give. I don't work in healthcare so the fact that they've let this slide as they have is embarrassing.

She was a black ally for the 'gram, I find it completely inconceivable she didn't realise it was offensive. Either that or she lied back then. Neither are respectable.

I expect she will be posting on IG again within a week.

Bookist · 08/03/2023 09:31

It's so worrying. This is a person who has TOLD us she is racist. She stated her racist views in black and white, she actually wrote them down. But apparently because she didn't realise she was being racist it makes everything okay. It's terrifying that ignorance is an acceptable defense for a professional institution and even more terrifying when it's faux ignorance.

If Clemmie had been a black midwife caught making derogatory comments about white patients and trying to undermine them, I think she would have been struck off without a doubt.

Balloonpopped · 08/03/2023 09:36

NMC and GMC have a history of minimising racism and also of treating people who aren't white differently so this isn't surprising at all.
