Be honest: does this dress look like a towel?

I bought a dress online that I had been thinking about for months. It will arrive in a couple of days. It was very expensive.

However, I showed it to my friends and everyone says that it looks like a towel Shock

Be honest: is it awful? Does it look like a towel to you?

Awful. Kinda worse than a towel, the material is more like a pink pedestal mat or some sort of microfibre cleaning cloth.

Cherrysoup · 13/02/2023 23:05

Microfibre cloth, exactly!

Such a shame it's on-line only and so expensive because I'd love to see another thread like the one featuring that monstrous M&S dress with an assortment of different MN'ers posting selfies of themselves in the changing room. This would be an epic dress for that kind of thread Grin

Oooh, link to that thread please!

I don't know really. It sounded like such a good idea 😅

You won't be the first or the last to buy an ''Oh dear'' item of clothing..Done it myself, and because the item was vintage, couldn't take its back. 🙄was the equivalent of £100 when I bought it.

WilsonMilson · 13/02/2023 23:07

This is what it reminds me of - not the look I imagine you’re going for.

Oh I’m so sorry, but she looks like a hot water bottle.

That's what I said too...A loo mat from 1970's.

OP at least has good grace to laugh at her purchase!

👍

Egghead68 · 13/02/2023 23:16

Yes

Staffielove23 · 13/02/2023 23:24

I like it. Would make a nice casual summer dress and feel nice against your skin.

Goldpaw · 13/02/2023 23:34

You have good friends OP!

Yes, it does look like a 1970's pedestal mat. 😂

Moveoverdarlin · 13/02/2023 23:43

Reminds me of Jane Norman dresses in the late 90s when you were forever yanking up the top but pulling down the bottom. Either way you either had your tits or ass on show. If you’re a size 8 and under I’m sure you’ll look fab in it.

PurpleFlower1983 · 13/02/2023 23:43

In the model picture, yes it does, sorry.

MucozadeOnLucozade · 13/02/2023 23:48

Just been on their website, everything is awful. Never seen such ugly clothes in my life. Please get something else.

Cornchip · 13/02/2023 23:49

OP, if you like the dress then you should wear it with joy. If other people don’t like it then that’s their prerogative.

I realised a while ago that you can’t please everyone with what clothes you choose to wear. Someone will always not like something. So wear what you love and what makes you feel good.

That being said, if it was pricey and it isn’t exactly what you envisioned, I’d probably send it back. You don’t want something £££ sitting in your wardrobe if you don’t love it and feel comfortable wearing it. However, you sending it back should have nothing to do with peoples’ opinions. It should be because you don’t like it.

MotherOfPuffling · 13/02/2023 23:50

Oh yes, @Moveoverdarlin ! I still have some of those I found in my loft - was going to get rid but figured DD will probably want to nick them in a few years and horrify me by wearing them!

Tireddoggymum · 13/02/2023 23:52

It’s lovely if you have the right curves …expensive though !

Dibbydoos · 13/02/2023 23:59

Sorry it's not my cup of tea and does look like a wraparound towel, but some people can pull dresses like this off. Try it on when it arrives, take pics and decide if you want to keep it or return it.

Kate8990 · 14/02/2023 00:25

The material is the issue here, not the style or colour (if pink is your thing)
Not for me though, I wouldn't accept this for free honestly. Sounds mean but the towelling material is not it sorry love.

Snugglemonkey · 14/02/2023 07:46

It looks cheap, like something from boohoo or one of those other cheap online places.

ednatheevilwitch · 14/02/2023 07:50

I'd love to see it in when it arrives. I have a bit of extra flesh on me and would look like an overstuffed sausage in that pink. Have been burnt by a pink tube dress before!

angela99999 · 14/02/2023 17:54

JollieJullie · 13/02/2023 19:52

I will return it

Good idea! Seems like a lot for this.

Shanda5 · 14/02/2023 17:59

Yes. A beach cover up if I was being generous

Justontherightsideofnormal · 14/02/2023 18:01

To answer your question, yes it is quite like a towel…… however if I looked like that in a towel I would wear it out in public 😘

Arthur2shedsJackson · 14/02/2023 18:16

What a weird neckline?

Allmarbleslost · 14/02/2023 18:18

Looks like the designer upcycled their Nan's bath towel. Sorry op.
