I'm shocked but not surprised. This world is depressing and scary for women.

It's so sad. I just hope that the poor little girl didn't realise what was happening/happened to her mum.

Her comment in the podcast about the husband getting a new job at the same time is telling. Makes me think he was competitive/jealous of her success.

That did stick out. Also that their neighbours said that he didn't really speak to anyone.

I can't understand someone who would do this. His problems were his and not his daughters or his wife. Just so sad and sickening.

SlightlyJaded · 07/02/2023 11:56

So fucking inevitable.

Likely 'reasons' (of course there are no REAL reasons)

  1. His selfish, egotistical, narcissistic self could not stand to watch her career thriving whilst his business was possibly struggling.
  2. Jealousy over a new colleague perhaps, and attention/praise she was getting in her new job
  3. Hiding something that was about to come out: financial mess / sexual secret or similar.

All of which boil down to controlling, insecure misogynist who saw his family of possessions that should making HIM look good. I feel actual hate toward him.

bigbabycooker · 07/02/2023 11:57

Yup, sounds like a pathetic inadequate man.

RIP Emma and Lettie.

Suspect that having a gun on school property (even licensed) will become an issue in future. I certainly wouldn't be happy as a parent with the idea that a teacher's husband could have a gun (even in a house away from the school).

AmongstTheCosmos · 07/02/2023 11:57

RIP Emma and Lettie.

We have to start naming this as a male violence issue. It isn't an isolated incident. It happens time and time again and it must stop.

Tamarindtree · 07/02/2023 11:40

It’s a terrible thing to happen to that family but I disagree that the world is depressing and scary for women.

i certainly don’t feel that way and neither does any female in my family or friends.

@Tamarindtree
we could all bury our heads in the sand, but it won’t do us any good

Hoppinggreen · 07/02/2023 11:58

Lentilweaver · 07/02/2023 11:43

Amazingly, women with MH issues manage not to annihilate their families. This is a male violence issue.

Absolutely true, no argument from me there

MsMarch · 07/02/2023 11:58

Of course we all knew what it was likely to be. And FYI, schools like Epsom College absolutely do require enhanced DBS checks on spouses etc so I would be surprised if he hadn't gone through that process.

What's most sad is that there will always be the "but they always seemed so lovely and happy" crowd but in reality, probably there were a million red flags which may or may not come to light now.

It makes me so angry.

LadyHarmby · 07/02/2023 11:58

Why can’t these pathetic, inadequate little men just kill themselves and leave their wives and kids alone? The answer is of course because they see them as possessions rather than as human beings with agency

This is key to this type of thing I think.

MavisFlump · 07/02/2023 11:59

FenghuangHoyan · 07/02/2023 11:48

FFS. Why didn't the stupid, useless, bastard just kill himself? Why'd he have to kill his wife and three year old? What sort of sick bastard does this?

I hope hell is a real place and he's rotting there. So bloody awful.

My sentiments too.
What a cowardly b…..d.

RB68 · 07/02/2023 12:00

I commented this would be the case to my Husband when the news broke so sad so very sad - yet more violence against women in the home. I am glad they now call them murder suicide rather than suicide pacts as if they ever were

AttilaTheMeerkat · 07/02/2023 12:00

There have been female family annihilators.

I would think he had no criminal record so was not known at all to the authorities or presented with any prior MH issues. This is what makes such killing also awful; these men tend to be ordinary and or otherwise banal individuals.

And it will happen again to another family somewhere. These types of family killings go on worldwide.

SlouchingTowardsBethlehemAgain · 07/02/2023 12:01

There are no words...except fucking pathetic murdering cunt, and child murdering cunt to boot.

ssd · 07/02/2023 12:01

Whats the point in saying how much you hate men? Whats the fucking point? Any man i know will be as horrified by this killing as any women i know.
Go and hate every man all you like but it doesn't make up any angrier about all this as anyone else.

horseyhorsey17 · 07/02/2023 12:02

It was obviously him from the way her name was the one flagged up in every single news story and he was just referred to as 'her husband.' Having come across quite a few bent accountants in the course of my three decades long career, I wonder if that had anything to do with it. Just speculating really. I too wonder why men like that always choose to take out their family - other than pure entitlement and misogyny. I mean, Lettie was never going to be held responsible for whatever mistakes her father may have made or crimes he'd committed. Just horrific. And it also annoys me when they're described as a 'loving family' when the evidence very much points to the fact that one of them wasn't just not loving, but an abusive misogynistic killer.

Hintofreality · 07/02/2023 12:03

Are we now allowed to say how ridiculous it is to have a rifle range on school grounds. He could have shot several pupils as well if he so desired..

I hate men today. Absolutely hate them. I'm angry with every single one of them. Luckily I'm at home alone so hopefully I'll have calmed down before dh gets home.

Echobelly · 07/02/2023 12:03

Just awful and will be so traumatic for everyone at the school as well.

Now please this time can the press do better with discussion of family annihilators and stop acting like anything 'made them' do this?

ReallyShouldBeDoingSomethingElse · 07/02/2023 12:04

Guns on school grounds. Just why?

Over 90% of family annihilators are male.

He had his own gun licence. The police have said the rifle range wasn't part of their enquiries.

All men won’t but majority of cases like this are men.

Roussette · 07/02/2023 12:05

An awful incident like this happened to someone I knew decades ago. I knew the grandparents through friends of mine, their daughter was married to a guy and they had one son aged 7. He was a teacher.
And he was abusive. She tried to leave him many times

One day this disgusting apology for a man set the house on fire with his son in it. Father and son died. He had told his wife he wanted her to suffer for the rest of her life. And she has.

Tirednest · 07/02/2023 12:05

Seeline · 07/02/2023 12:04

I doubt he shot them with an air pistol.

BentleyRhythmAce · 07/02/2023 12:05

Sad but not at all surprised. It was my immediate thought. She probably told him she wanted a divorce or something.

Catspyjamas17 · 07/02/2023 12:05

It's usually desperately sad when someone kills themselves. But the sheer level of psychopathic, entitled breathtaking arrogance to murder your loved ones first, as what, you think they can't go on without you? Fuck that shit.
