I'm shocked but not surprised. This world is depressing and scary for women.

The gun was his own apparently. His licence was checked only last week.

Whats the point in saying how much you hate men? Whats the fucking point? Any man i know will be as horrified by this killing as any women i know.
Go and hate every man all you like but it doesn't make up any angrier about all this as anyone else.

No one, not one person , has said they hate all men.

But this doesn't mean that it is men who kill women in this country at the rate of 2-3 per week.

You must be hard of thinking if you don't see that there is a serious problem with women dying at the hands of violent males, mostly the males they should trust the most.

Amazingly, women with MH issues manage not to annihilate their families. This is a male violence issue.

I'm sorry to say though that it does happen. I'm aware women do not commit such awful acts in anywhere near the numbers that men do, but this is a very recent case of a woman doing exactly that.

My first thought when hearing of this is how badly she must have been failed by MH services as the idea of a woman harming her children (making assumptions on the relationship based on the comments in the article) is just so abhorrent.

It does happen. There was one at my primary school when I was in senior school. Horrible.

Did she kill her husband/partner as well?

Indeed. And they both had good jobs, so he could have paid for mental health help if he needed it.

Yes, it happens. About 10% of the time, if that.

It is mainly men.

Tirednest · 07/02/2023 12:08

Also no mention of her killing her partner.

She didn't kill herself or the kids. Can we please stop the false equivalence.

This isn't an episode of Happy Valley.
A man murdered - no excuses, no reasons for that.

WeaselCheeks · 07/02/2023 12:08

It's horrible, because as others have said, as soon as the news broke about the family being found dead, I thought, "How long before it comes out that the dad murdered them both then killed himself?"

Family annihilation is an utterly narcissistic, monstrous crime, and one that's overwhelmingly committed by men.

BoredOfThisMansWorld · 07/02/2023 12:09

The fact that some women murder does not change the fact that the vast majority (over 90%) of ALL violent and sex crimes are committed by males.

And the main reason that people are more likely to be killed by people/ a man known to them is ease of access for the killer.

I don't hate men. I have gazillions in my family, I'm nurturing boys, three of my closest friends are men. But as a society we urgently need to reassess how we raise boys. Root out the messages in our culture and socialisation which make abuse of superior physical strength an option and which place women and children in lesser status as objects, props or belongings in men's lives.

Highdaysandholidays1 · 07/02/2023 12:09

@HelpASisterOut999 she didn't attempt to kill her husband though. I've noticed that with females a) they usually are post-partum often with psychosis and often succeed with insanity defences b) they tend to focus on the children as either they are in psychosis or they fear for them. There are very very few women who have annihilated their whole family and their partner and their kids and themselves. Far more men do that.

Oh god, we're already on 'but women do this too' are we? FFS.

Yeah, about 15 minutes in. Pathetic isn't it.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 07/02/2023 12:12

And the depressing thing, this is only big news because of Epsom college, had it been Mrs average it would have much less print time because it is so bloody common.

I don't think we even made it to the second page of comments before someone had to make that point. Urgh.

NamelessNancy · 07/02/2023 12:13

Here we go again. NAMALT, women do it too... There is a huge issue of male violence against women and girls. It is a problem which cannot be solved without being recognised. Ultimately it's down to men to fix it too.

Oh I don't think so.

He was living on school grounds, in school property, with the headteacher - his wife. I hope schools undertake DBS and reference checks on all spouses/partners in these circumstances. An interview too would be helpful for those living on site.

He didn't have a criminal record, though.

Absolutely.

It's so depressing to see the minimising.

AtomicRitual · 07/02/2023 12:15

What a tragedy for the poor woman and daughter. I thought it was interesting in the statement that came out initially that listed Emma, Lettie and then him in that order. That pointed to me that it was at his hands.

I find it quite worrying that anyone (even with a gun license) can have been allowed to keep a gun on school premises at all.

I know the school has its own rifle range, but those will likely be air rifles under the control of a member of staff, not the husband of someone that works there.

blacksax · 07/02/2023 12:15

We all knew, didn't we? As soon as the police said that there was no 3rd party involvement, we all knew.

May they rest in peace, and may he rot in hell.

Bunniesue · 07/02/2023 12:15

I hate it how on every thread like this people grasp whatever news articles they can and conveniently leave out the actual statistics in a bid to claim see women do this too. Men do it at an overwhelmingly higher rate, women are far more vulnerable.

Lentilweaver · 07/02/2023 12:16

Ah the NAMALTS are out rushing to tell us how wonderful their husbands and sons and brothers are. Irrelevant. Domestic abuse is often hidden, like in this case, so just because you think your brother is lovely doesn't mean he is lovely to his wife.

No doubt George's mother and sister and colleagues thought he was lovely too.

Takemetothemoonandback · 07/02/2023 12:16

This is just tragic. I live around the corner from the college, my children have swimming lessons there weekly. We always drive past the house going in. The lights are always on. I dread to think what was going on in that house as we were going past. I can't comprehend it. It's so unfair. RIP Emma & Lettie 💔
