I'm shocked but not surprised. This world is depressing and scary for women.

I am female, and I believe it is still possible to feel compassion for someone who commits a crime. None of us know the circumstances, and it is still sad that 3 young people have died.

lalalalalaalalala · 07/02/2023 12:27

Disgusting, vile little man.

He should have just killed himself and left his wife and daughter alone.

Why do these murderous men always have to take everyone with them?

Three people have lost their lives and it is sad for all 3 of them. Where is the compassion?

That is the most offensive comment that I have ever seen on this website.

Assuming this is a genuine question (although I very much doubt it) can you explain what compassion should be felt for an adult with a gun murdering his wife and 7 year old child?

I'm sure people would have empathy for someone who felt suicide was their only option. Its not unreasonable to have zero sympathy for someone who decides to shoot their wife and 6 year old daughter, however.

BoredOfThisMansWorld · 07/02/2023 12:29

Some of the NAMALT is most likely the men who monitor MN because they're on a mission to #keepmumsnetoutofpolitics

Some is probably a kind of self-preservation. It can feel safer to believe that women are as physically and structurally powerful as men. That you'd definitely be able to spot any abusive male before he acted. That this kind of thing only happens to other women. That it's your own fault if you get attacked, it's a personality trait you can work on.

The thing is, a headteacher is going to know about safeguarding and risk more than many women out there.

He's a fucking murderer. He had a choice , they had none, I'll save my compassion for HIS VICTIMS.

He can rot in hell.

CaveMum · 07/02/2023 12:29

The thing with women who commit murder versus men who commit murder is that, in the vast majority of cases (not all obviously) the main motivations are very different.

Women generally kill due to abusive situations, mental health issues (often PND associated), etc. men generally kill in fits of temper, dominance, etc. I have a book at home (“Look What You Made Me Do”, about abusive relationships) that talks about this, I’ll try to find the page and stats.

I have no compassion for the murderer.
Murdering his child especially is unforgivable.

Hbh17 · 07/02/2023 12:29

Hating someone we have never met, and calling them names gets us nowhere. Perhaps public energies would be better directed in calling for more support for both victims & perpetrators of violence?

This is heartbreaking. They must have both been terrified. I can't stop thinking about whether that poor little girl had to witness her mother dying first, or the mother watched her daughter being killed. I really can't cope with thinking about either option. May they rest in peace.

Blessedwithsunshine · 07/02/2023 12:30

The minute he was described as ‘quiet’ i knew. It’s short hand for we don’t like him or know him. Emma looked to me like an incredible woman with her whole life ahead. I can’t even talk about the little girl.

I wonder when she said ‘ lots of/too many changes’ that was a cry for help. Clearly he/they were struggling before this happened.

ArcaneWireless · 07/02/2023 12:31

Like others, this was my first thought when I heard it.

@WeaselCheeks wrote this

Family annihilation is an utterly narcissistic, monstrous crime, and one that's overwhelmingly committed by men.

There is no getting away from that. And despite there being lovely men in the world, it doesn’t make that statement any less true.

NotAnotherBathBomb · 07/02/2023 12:31

It is mostly men.

It is overwhelmingly men.

It is statistically most likely men.

The majority of these crimes are committed by men.

For all of the 'but a woman' folk.

*No-one knows the circumstances"?
What circumstances set in motion someone murdering their wife and child? Do enlighten us.

No it’s not. They had the choice to live taken from them.

Compassion is solely for them.

AtomicBlondeRose · 07/02/2023 12:32

He reported her to police in 2016 for “striking” him. Their daughter is 7 therefore in 2016 she was pregnant or had a newborn. I wonder who was abusing who, and who was taking advantage of the situation by reporting it to the police…

Tirednest · 07/02/2023 12:32

Tamrastarr · 07/02/2023 12:21

When I heard about this I said to my daughter I am guessing the husband has murdered his wife and child and then committed suicide. She said why would you assume that? And I said, unfortunately, that's the way it usually is in these cases. RIP to Emma and Lettie x

I had exactly the same conversation with my teen dd.

Velvetween · 07/02/2023 12:32

Hintofreality · 07/02/2023 12:03

Are we now allowed to say how ridiculous it is to have a rifle range on school grounds. He could have shot several pupils as well if he so desired..

There is nothing yet to suggest the schools rifle range had anything to do with the deaths. He had his own gun. I find this shocking, that he was able to hold a gun on school premises. Licensed or not, in my view that always presented a much greater risk than a tightly controlled armoury.

RIP Emma and Lettie.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 07/02/2023 12:33

Why do these men think they owned wives and children right to live their lives to its natural end? How dare he.

lifeturnsonadime · 07/02/2023 12:33

None of us know the circumstances,

Yes we do. The man this woman and child should have been able to trust MURDERED THEM IN COLD BLOOD then turned the gun on himself.

He's a COWARD and a MURDERER and you feel sorry for him.

Give your head a fucking wobble.

That child must have. been so fucking scared and you have sympathy for her killer. Her DAD?

This shit makes me so fucking angry.

Sadly this was always the most likely explanation. I don't think I have ever heard of a "family annihilation" perpetrated by a woman.

If course there has here is just a couple of them
