I'm shocked but not surprised. This world is depressing and scary for women.

@AttilaTheMeerkat I can’t recall a UK case where a woman has murdered both an adult male husband / partner and their child / children at the same time.

The Times is now reporting that he reported his wife to the Police in 2016 for allegedly striking him and she was spoken to by the Police; the husband then withdrew the allegation. I wonder why he was allowed a gun licence.

This case is heartbreaking. RIP Emma and Lettie.

marniemae · 07/02/2023 12:18

If there had been evidence of MH issues would he have had his gun license reviewed and updated so recently? Even if he had sought help from GP and not got any help that would be on his records right. I don't think it's necessarily a case of blaming MH services in this country. I've been sectioned twice and been aggressive when I wish I hadn't but I've never killed anyone

I had a look at his company's finances on the govt site and he'd made very very little in the last (posted) year, compared to the year before.

When I read that comment about his unexpected job, I thought two things - one, his business failed and two, he'll make her life hell for that comment.

What a tragedy for the poor woman and daughter. I thought it was interesting in the statement that came out initially that listed Emma, Lettie and then him in that order. That pointed to me that it was at his hands.

I find it quite worrying that anyone (even with a gun license) can have been allowed to keep a gun on school premises at all.

I know the school has its own rifle range, but those will likely be air rifles under the control of a member of staff, not the husband of someone that works there.

Absolutely! I think you'd assume it was a given when you send your kid to any school - even one with a rifle range - that the staff and people roaming the grounds don't have access to firearms.

flabbygoldfish · 07/02/2023 12:19

It is just the fact men feel they have the right and power to do this, it is all about them. Nobody else matters, no one has the right to move on if they have messed up. It is just what they feel and what they want. It is insidious and everywhere.

toomuchlaundry · 07/02/2023 12:19

We can't ignore the fact that women do this too, but we do need to look at the reasons why anyone would do this.

But men really need to look at themselves and address the issue of male violence.

Was speaking to DH about misogyny the other day, after a relative bought teen DS some violent video games, as said relative thought it was wrong that I didn't like those games and didn't have them in the house. As a manager DH clamps down on any misogyny he sees in his workplace, but feels he can't have influence on misogyny/male violence in society as a whole.

Three people have lost their lives and it is sad for all 3 of them. Where is the compassion?

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 07/02/2023 12:21

I didn't want to jump to conclusions but oh look, yet another bastard man thinking he can take the life of his own wife and child. I hope he's burning in hell.

Tamrastarr · 07/02/2023 12:21

When I heard about this I said to my daughter I am guessing the husband has murdered his wife and child and then committed suicide. She said why would you assume that? And I said, unfortunately, that's the way it usually is in these cases. RIP to Emma and Lettie x

NotAnotherBathBomb · 07/02/2023 12:21

I'm so angry. As soon as I saw the headline I knew. I thought...that or carbon monoxide poisoning. But most likely the man.

So so sad

When one of those people is responsible for the deaths of the other two, I'm afraid I have no compassion for the perpetrator.

What the actual FUCK? Sad for all 3 of them. Why is MN overrun with men and their pathetic handmaidens?

RosesAndHellebores · 07/02/2023 12:22

I accept a DBS was undertaken. Which indicates a person hasn't been caught but what about references and 360 review/I terview. This geezer had social access to 00s of young people and lived on school premises.

NotAnotherBathBomb · 07/02/2023 12:22

Clawdy · 07/02/2023 11:38

Sadly, she'd made a distressed call to a family member. They arrived at the house, but it was too late.

How horrible

ProtectorExtraordinaryOfTheCantonsOfNim · 07/02/2023 12:22

RosesAndHellebores · 07/02/2023 11:46

He was living on school grounds, in school property, with the headteacher - his wife. I hope schools undertake DBS and reference checks on all spouses/partners in these circumstances. An interview too would be helpful for those living on site.

Yes, any non-school staff over the age of 16 who live on the school premises need an Enhanced DBS check and a Barred List check (not relevant to the main point of the thread but just clearing that up).

A woman has been arrested in London for trying to stab her 3 children to death yesterday.

And your point is?

Redlocks30 · 07/02/2023 12:26

I think it was The Times reporting this morning that he’d called the police on her a few years back for ‘striking’ him.

That poor little girl :(

ShiverOfSharks · 07/02/2023 12:26

Women have been known to kill their children and themselves, but they are usually a) severely mentally ill at the time or b) surpassingly desperate and struggling very badly with feeding and housing said kids. Male family annihilators typically do it simply because the relationship is in trouble or whatever facade of success they like to present to the world is under threat. The old "if I can't have (control) you..." It's a manifestation of domestic abuse.
