Most daftly overpriced thing you've seen lately?

I've really fancied trying these Bueno eggs, finally saw them in Tesco and nearly collapsed in shock at the price. £2.75!! For a few tiny little eggs. I think not. The delights of the Bueno egg will remain a mystery to me.

What have you seen lately that's ridiculously overpriced? I know everything but maybe like the little treats you might have bought that are now so out of budget that you won't buy them even if you can afford too.

@greenacrylicpaint - that’s pretty normal isn’t it? In mainland Europe we have been paying around €0.50 per egg for several years. So €5 for 10.

pigsinoodies · 21/02/2023 17:50

Yep, my normal eggs have gone from £2.80 to £4.50 for 10 in the last year. I understand why but it's still ridiculous.

I wish I knew when all these price increases were going to stop it drives me mad. Will they ever go down again or will all the supermarkets be rubbing their greasy palms together in glee. Will their profits rise alongside the energy companies?
A head of broccoli cost me £1.20, not organic either. I'm going to consider looking at frozen veg as an option now.

Kale's still quite affordable and once you get the hang of cooking it I think it's nicer than broccoli, although it is easier to convince the kids to eat little trees broccoli.

Roxy69 · 21/02/2023 19:43

Kale soup though! I did buy it but only because I had a yearning for broccoli and peanut butter soup a la Hugh F-W and it is better than it sounds. 😄 I shall keep my desires under better control in future.

pigsinoodies · 21/02/2023 20:02

I love eating kale because it was food for cows when I was younger. Nobody ate kale.

Kale's one of the easiest things to grow in a spare patch of garden.

Kale, turnip tops and perpetual spinach were my main green veg in 2020.

Large bisto gravy granules £5.50 in Tesco.

RedRobin100 · 22/02/2023 06:03

I picked up a bag of the infamous £1.20 mini eggs in the co-op yesterday out of interest (as I was craving them)

the bag was all puffed up with air but there must’ve only been about 8 eggs rattling around inside. Or so it sounded.

scandalous.

Yes, I know I'm ranting. The equivalent weight in Gluten Free Bisto would be double.

Tesco.ie sells gluten free for 30c more than standard price. Which is less than 3 Euro, by the way.

McDonald’s dips were always 20p - recently went up to 40p - double!
I went last night and they’re now 50p.

Im going to keep a bottle of garlic mayo in my car from now on.

I was shocked when I saw this too. I got a sweet chilli dip through the drive thru yesterday at 50p and in true McDonalds style, they didn't put it in the bag. 50p for fresh air Envy

Yeah Europe is so much better than us at helping coeliacs. Was in Majorca last summer and popped into the supermarket. Instead of a free from aisle (which we all know is an excuse to bump up the price!) all to the gluten free products were with their gluten counterparts. However they were priced the same, no overinflated prices. I even bought a massive chocolate cake (10” x 12”) to take home in my case! My other half thought I was mental but it was €3 tasted amazing and if I had the money I’d go back and get more 🤣🤣
Even the all inclusive hotel knew what a coeliac was(I don’t mean that in a derogatory way, just that if you say that word to some places over here, they look blankly at you!). I could request my own pizza, pasta and personal breakfast roll. This country really does suck at treating people with conditions they have no control over fairly.

Driving me nuts too. Every week they have added 20p to things sometimes more.

Yes! How am I noticing it weekly?I tryvto tell myself it can't be.but it is.

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll I actually lol’ed at your reference to ‘the twists’! I loved that book as a kid! Thanks for putting a happy memory smile on my face 😘😘

Further increase to Kenco really rich at Co-op - now an eye-watering £10.50 for 200g!

£4.50 to £6.70 elsewhere.

Yes - do you get Don Warrington to come to your house and make it for you at that price?! Grin

tulips27 · 23/02/2023 10:18

That is shocking, @Anotherselfemployedcleaner !
It's not even that great, it's instant FFS!
I'd buy three bags of ground coffee from M&S for the same money and enjoy something tasty!
