Continuation of previous lifeboat threads 1 & 2 & 3.

Gather here all ye refugees from the JTT Flat Earth Society, welcome to the reassuringly oblate spheroid of MN! Ye all already know the answers to the questions "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

So really we're all here just to chat randomly.

Would you mind doing this via PM or perhaps start a new thread?

helenskywalker · 24/01/2023 00:09

Fuck no, some of you people are sufficiently vicious in the public eye. But maybe stick to being a bit more truthful for the sake of your mortal souls.

Madamedefargelikescrows · 24/01/2023 00:36

Glad you have an appointment in February, @BinkerTell which is not far off now. Tinks is beautiful, I think Django will grow up to look like her. At the moment he's very cute in the way of kittens and a lap cat, shoulder cat, anywhere on your body cat and a bit of a mare but loveable, I got photos of Louise yesterday, or Lula as she now is. She's looking so happy and as beautiful as ever and it's made me very happy.

Ginmonkeyagain · 24/01/2023 07:20

I definitely prefer the dog and cat chat.

New washing machine day here (second time lucky 🤞) Mr Monkey's pile of sweaty running tops is becoming a hazard (TBF to him he did hand wash a load at the weekend).

StephanieSuperpowers · 24/01/2023 07:29

Hope you have a fantastic holiday, Kuc and hope those having medical stuff going on get some relief.

Kucinghitam · 24/01/2023 15:19

I didn't sleep much (or at all, perhaps) on the flight. I'm not good at sleeping on planes. But otherwise it was a good journey.

I'm now home with my parents and brother. Very glad to be all together and it's actually sort of special being just the 4 of us again. On the drive from the airport we stopped at a town famous for satay. That was an excellent meal to mark my return home 😋

Chicken and what's the other one? I hope you're not suffering in the sweltering heat!

Tricyrtis2022 · 24/01/2023 15:27

Kuc, how could you?! Oh god, that looks amazing.

Tricyrtis2022 · 24/01/2023 15:31

hope those having medical stuff going on get some relief.

TY. After three weeks of a bad cold, followed by a throat infection, painful cough and losing my voice for a week, I'm finally starting to feel human again. All this came from visiting family over Christmas and them not telling us beforehand that one of them was ill. I suppose I've not got some nice new antibodies but I don't appreciate not being told I'm going to be staying with someone who is mid-lurgy.

Kucinghitam · 24/01/2023 15:31

Those are chicken and beef satay. Done properly - grilled over charcoal, basted with a brush made of literal lemongrass stalks. We eat them with sides of cucumber slices and pressed rice. And most importantly the kuah kacang or spicy peanut sauce. <burp>

It's not too hot this evening. Very pleasant for sitting out on the balcony. I've been told it rained all day, which helped to cool down the temperature to a positively chilly 25ºC.

That food looks incredible.

Ginmonkeyagain · 24/01/2023 15:41

😫It's currently 2 degrees here.

That satay looks delicious.

Ginmonkeyagain · 24/01/2023 15:42

In other news I now have a new washing machine but the door has been reattached very wonkily.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 24/01/2023 15:48

I'm really glad you're there Kuc, enjoying delicious food and proper warmth. I know how grim the long-enforced separation during Covid was - you deserve a good time.

Wonky washing machine door sounds. Sub optimal.

Tricy, I got a horrible three plus week virus too - I suspect caught from people in church on Christmas morning. Like you, I'm hoping it's boosted my antibodies.

Tricyrtis2022 · 24/01/2023 15:52

not got some nice new antibodies = now got some nice new antibodies.

Sorry to hear you've got it too, elderberry, hope you're feeling better soon!

Ginmonkeyagain · 24/01/2023 15:52

Luckily it is only the cosmetic "covering door" rather than anything that stops the washing machine working.

I can't work out what they have done - the machine is the same size as the old one the door used to be attached to.

Tricyrtis2022 · 24/01/2023 15:55

Ginmonkeyagain, does the door actually fit?

Ginmonkeyagain · 24/01/2023 15:59

It does, it is just it now does not close flush with the unit next to it (it is an integrated kitchen so all utilities are fitted behind "cupboard doors").

the door was made for a washing machine of exactly the same dimensions. It is most puzzling.

I suspect the washing machine needs to be pushed further back in to the cavity another half cm or so.

Tricyrtis2022 · 24/01/2023 16:03

the washing machine needs to be pushed further back in to the cavity another half cm or so.

That sounds like it could be it. Washing machines weigh a ton, though, and I find them difficult to move.

Ginmonkeyagain · 24/01/2023 16:10

Yeah - I think we need to call the fitter back to do it - it is really annoying - it's only out by a centimetre or two.

Tricyrtis2022 · 24/01/2023 17:37

Things being out by even a centimetre might as well be out by a lot more as it's so jarring. It would keep catching my eye and annoying me.

Ginmonkeyagain · 24/01/2023 17:45

IKR? Mr Monkey doesn't see the issue! My first call is to get the installer sback out - if that is not achiveable I think I may have found a bodge solution. The magnetic strips on the front of the washing machine that hold the dorr firm can be popped out - these are about a quarter of a CM more raised than those on the old machine so if i replace them with adhesive magnetic strip I think i can get the door to - more or less - align.

This is how those DIY bodges we all boggle at when we move in to a new place start. 😣

Tricyrtis2022 · 24/01/2023 17:52

He doesn't see the issue? Wow, I'd find that hard to understand.

Reminds me of when I was helping an animator with a website and he kept asking me to move things two pixels to the right or whatever. I also got a good appreciation for kerning from him and now things being two pixels out of place or badly kerned text stand out. Half a cm might as well be half a kilometre.

SinnerBoy · 24/01/2023 18:26

Ginmonkeyagain

😫It's currently 2 degrees here.

Oh dear! It's been a sweltering 10° here today, down to 8° now.

Sorry for your woes, elderberry. I hope you're feeling better ASAP.

Glad to hear you're on the mend, Tricyrtis2022

SinnerBoy · 24/01/2023 18:28

Kucinghitam · Today 15:31

Ah, I was guessing they wouldn't be pork, as I've had in Europe before. On lemongrass, my wife made a stew last week and chopped lemongrass into tiny pieces - an entire bunch. My bowl contained two pudding spoons of the bloody stuff.
