Continuation of previous lifeboat threads 1 and 2.

Gather here all ye refugees from the JTT Flat Earth Society, welcome to the reassuringly oblate spheroid of MN! Ye all already know the answers to the questions "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

So really we're all here just to chat randomly.

Hello, Shiny New Thread!

Ginmonkeyagain · 21/12/2022 09:18

Hello thread.

I had English dinner last night so am feeling a little rough around the edges.

To explain "English dinner" is the term we use for when one goes to the pub and fail to get anything to eat (last night this was due to thinking the pub kitchen was open until 9.30pm when in fact they threw in the towel at 8.30pm due to staff shortages).

The term comes from a time we were in the pub with an Italian friend after football and seeing Mr Monkey come back with three pints of beer and two packets of crisps for the table to share, he declared "ahh, English Dinner!"

SinnerBoy · 21/12/2022 09:55

Arff!

kittykarate · 21/12/2022 10:16

Surely for it to be a 'full english' you'd need pork scratchings too.

StephanieSuperpowers · 21/12/2022 10:35

I like this name!

MOT this afternoon. I’ve done about 1200 miles and filled the tank just 3 times since the last MOT.

angelico53 · 21/12/2022 11:00

Good luck, manc. MOTs are the sword of Damocles.

MavisMcMinty · 21/12/2022 11:05

When I was working I did 30,000 miles a year - haven’t driven 30K miles in the 6 years I’ve had this car!

bignosebignose · 21/12/2022 11:13

Morning all, picked up Littler Bignose from school yesterday evening as his year had been on a school trip to Panto. We got into the car, as usual on Radio 1 where regular readers may recall I was Mariah Carey'd last week.

Whamageddon. FFS.

IReallyLikeCrows · 21/12/2022 11:45

Hello new thread. Today I am mostly rough as a badger's arse. My throat is so sore that I never want to eat again. Obviously, I will! Still despite being physically wrecked I am mentally and emotionally better than I have been in bloody ages so on balance things are fair to middling which I think is a win given the lurgy.

otraynor · 21/12/2022 12:11

Sorry to hear it, Crows. I hope you get well soon.

angelico53 · 21/12/2022 12:11

Re cars: delighted to find last week that our toyota warranty has been automatically extended to 10 years. The car is not posh or nippy but at my age and in my family, the absolute essential is reliability. Good eh?

Get well soon, crowsy.

SinnerBoy · 21/12/2022 12:25

Get well soon, Crows.

Dotellhimpike · 21/12/2022 12:49

Hope you're feeling better soon Grace.

I woke up this morning with a nosebleed, all over white pillowcases. Got it sorted then it started again in earnest on my drive into work, a real gusher.

No idea why, I feel fine otherwise.

Winterborne74 · 21/12/2022 12:59

I had frequent nosebleeds for some time a few years ago, and it turned out to be an infection. GP gave me some cream and they stopped very quickly after that.

SinnerBoy · 21/12/2022 13:23

Clotted cream?

UnfortunatePoster · 21/12/2022 13:57

At least if it happens at work you can get it checked out easily Pike.

I've got that sore throat / cough thing that's doing the rounds, it's rather unpleasant. Day 6 now, and still painful to swallow, and my voice is coming back but not my normal voice yet. Horrible timing for you as well Crow, I hope you get over it quickly - and stock up on strepsils etc while the shops are open. And ice-cream. Lots of ice-cream.

MissLawls · 21/12/2022 15:08

Hello new thread. Present and correct - or very incorrect ho ho ho.

MissLawls · 21/12/2022 15:09

And I love the term English dinner.

Up here we have a duck's breakfast - shit and a drink of water.

Dotellhimpike · 21/12/2022 15:51

I love the new thread title, from one of my favourite poems.

IReallyLikeCrows · 21/12/2022 16:57

@UnfortunatePoster I hadn't even thought of ice cream! Snoop is coming to leave me my Christmas present tomorrow and asked if I needed her to get me anything. I shall ask for ice-cream! I've eaten a banana and a couple of satsumas because they're soft. Still bloody hurt.

The timing isn't great but at least I can just snuggle down. Last week would have been bloody awful timing so I'm not overly bothered that I'm a bit poorly for Christmas.

@Dotellhimpike yikes! I hope it's just something or nothing.

MavisMcMinty · 21/12/2022 17:16

Although I haven’t bought a single present for anyone else apart from myself, no written a single card, having passed my car’s MOT I celebrated by buying Christmas food from Waitrose on the way home, and now feel I’m ready for Christmas, job done. Helps that I’m not doing the family thing until January so have LOADS of time.

Tricyrtis2022 · 21/12/2022 17:27

Sorry to hear you feel so awful, Crows! Glad you have someone to bring you ice cream, though, that's lovely.

@Dotellhimpike yikes! I hope it's just something or nothing.

Same here. Sudden nose bleeds are a real drag.

CyanCyan · 21/12/2022 17:49

Aw sorry you’re unwell @IReallyLikeCrows. I got strep throat on Christmas day one year, rubbish as I couldn’t eat any of the food. I hope yours clears up quickly.

I’ve done some pre-Christmas cleaning and litter-box-scrubbing so I can properly relax when I finish on the 23rd. Going to do some festive baking tomorrow eve or possibly even tonight if I get time… mince pies and lentil ‘sausage’ rolls.
