Continuation of previous thread.

Gather here all ye refugees from the foundering ship of JTT, if ye be in need of "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

Or just to chat randomly.

Hello Xmas Smile

SinnerBoy · 07/12/2022 09:25

Blinking cold out there, this morning. There were traces of ice on some puddles.

And:

Thanks again, Cyan.

SqueakyDinosaur · 07/12/2022 09:31

The cold does allow me to use my Kärcher window vacuum to hoover up condensation, which I love doing.

CyanCyan · 07/12/2022 09:40

Have you got any snow forecast @SinnerBoy? My mum who I think is down the road from you said there might be some tomorrow.

I’m building myself up for a solid day of studying, erk. I never want to see another protist again.

SinnerBoy · 07/12/2022 09:44

We're at the coast, there is snow in the hills, above 200m. We often just get a dusting, or slush.

CyanCyan · 07/12/2022 09:49

Is it S? There was never much snow when I was there but my dad remembers the sea freezing a few times.

SinnerBoy · 07/12/2022 10:10

North Tyneside.

My Karcher charger got chewed by mice, so I can't use it until I can be arsed to replace it. Which may be some time.

FleshLiabilities · 07/12/2022 11:30

Bloody freezing here in the Midlands, was planning on going into the office but when i woke up and could see my breath I thought 'not doing that bus journey today', so I'm working from home in thermals and a wooly hat.

Tricyrtis2022 · 07/12/2022 11:39

I used to live in the Midlands, FleshLiabilities, and it was the coldest place I've ever lived. Sutton Coldfield and Wolverhampton were like freezers in winter.

FleshLiabilities · 07/12/2022 11:47

I grew up in Sutton Coldfield and remember the 7ft snow drifts sometime in the early eighties. Didn't care about the cold in those days as was just a nipper, feeling it now though.

Tricyrtis2022 · 07/12/2022 11:58

I remember those snow drifts. I also remember someone telling me at the time that the next highest place going east is Siberia, so it made sense that easterlies in that part of the country were so cold.

As for Wolverhampton, I used to walk across the Molyneux car park most days and the wind that howled across it was bone chilling.

FleshLiabilities · 07/12/2022 12:27

Yeah, the coldest place I've ever been is the concrete terrace at Walsall fc

Would you like an entire Karcher window vac including charger? Since we got double glazing a couple of years ago, ours has been sitting in the hall cupboard of doom.

Since getting the EBAC dehumidifier of joy, we have had no (0) window condensation.

It's a miracle machine.

As a smart-meter-haver, what effect does it have on your electricity bills? I have a dehumidifier I use for drying laundry but could really do with it in the bedroom too.

Ginmonkeyagain · 07/12/2022 13:02

Not a huge amount.

We have been running it for about 7 - 10 hours a day and it doesn't use a great deal.

It has the positive impact of being able to use less heating as well.

So yesterday we ran one wash, both showered, made breakfast, lunch and dinner at home, ran the gas central heating at 18 C for an hour in the morning and four hours in the evening and had the dehumidifier running from 6am to 10pm (plus the usual lights, TV, radio, phone and lap top charging).

We spent £5.10pm (both fuels).

CyanCyan · 07/12/2022 13:06

Good to know, I shall treat my bedroom to a bit of dehumidifying then. Tired of cleaning mould off the edges of the windows.

bignosebignose · 07/12/2022 13:21

What model of EBAC have you got, gin? We have ongoing problems, particularly in a corner bedroom and that might be worth a try.

Ginmonkeyagain · 07/12/2022 13:25

Umm. Not sure. It was £280 in Argos.

Ginmonkeyagain · 07/12/2022 13:25

I am a poor substitute for Verde as a shill for Big Dehumidifier.

Kucingsparkles · 07/12/2022 13:27

FWIW, we run a dehumidifier for several hours a day (Meaco, can't remember the model as it is quite old) and still get a bit of condensation and mould around the windows - IMO it depends on what your house is made of, local climate, etc etc. So in our house, the window-surrounding-bits are stone, and that gets mighty cold and attracts condensation. Way less than the amounts we used to get when the glass was single-glazed, so I still count it as a win.

CyanCyan · 07/12/2022 13:27

I have a Meaco which makes me sing Peter Gabriel's Biko every time.

Ginmonkeyagain · 07/12/2022 13:30

We have a single skin, concrete thirties flat. Managing condensation is a well rehersed routine.

We heat to at least 18 degrees, use a dehumidifier, air the flat out completely every morning and always shower with the bathroom window open.

MissLawls · 07/12/2022 14:05

Good afternoon new thread.

I can't stand the cold. But I'm coping better today than I did yesterday when I made the never-to-be-repeated-in-this-weather mistake of getting up early! Early for me, 6.30am. I just couldn't get warm. Today was a much more comfortable rise after nine when the house had nicely warmed up. I'm toasty as hell and I'm not going out in this. I'm trying not to think about how much this is costing us but we were very stingy in our usage in October and November when the price went up so we've saved a bit to use when it gets cold. I live in the Peak District. It can get very cold up here, brrrrr...

Hope all are well. Thanks for starting a new chat thread.
