Continuation of previous lifeboat threads 1 & 2 & 3.

Gather here all ye refugees from the JTT Flat Earth Society, welcome to the reassuringly oblate spheroid of MN! Ye all already know the answers to the questions "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

So really we're all here just to chat randomly.

I'm a fire snake. Impulsive and highly sociable apparently.

StephanieSuperpowers · 22/01/2023 18:48

I'm also part of the wood tiger massive.

weaseleyes · 22/01/2023 19:51

Like @MavisMcMinty , I am a lovely rabbit. I'm a more namby pamby one, though, so have had to skim through plucking/frog posts with my hands over my eyes and a jar of smelling salts next to me. I shall gather my lace petticoats about me and fan myself with some filigree tofu.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 22/01/2023 20:03

I am appalled that I called this stuff superstition. The internet says, with quite shattering accuracy, that us mud puppies are soft and sensitive, but also tough - protective, honest, true, decent, kind, thoughtful, dutiful, and completely grounded.

That Me.

Myers Briggs eat your heart out.

When I combine my Rabbit birth-year with my Cancerian star sign, I get a woman of such extraordinary elegance, beauty, good taste, kindness and intelligence that I can't help but agree, so it must all be true. They don't mention gullibility, a total lack of self-awareness, or that other websites may differ.

dollymixedup · 22/01/2023 20:37

I'm a wood rabbit, apparently that makes me
'clever, quick-witted and good at making evil plans'
Think that puts it right back in the superstition category!

Gonners · 22/01/2023 21:16

'clever, quick-witted and good at making evil plans'

I'd prefer to be "good at carrying out evil plans".

MavisMcMinty · 22/01/2023 23:11

Just got home after 3 nights away, and I have two dogs and two cats jostling for my attention, it’s lovely. They really are the best cats and dogs in the world.

Drove 300 miles today, and was struck by the “signature tail lights” on almost all cars now, saw practically no cars with traditional plain rear lights, and quite a few had “signature headlights” too. Once you notice, you can’t stop noticing! (I have a feeling my own car has signature tail lights, but I’ve never stood behind it when the lights are on. I’m pretty sure they’re not very fancy.)

That sounds quite wonderful!

I'd like "signature tail lights", mavis, but ones that shoot laser beams at buggers who tailgate me. Touch of 007.

Kucinghitam · 23/01/2023 09:41

Please, what are signature tail lights?

OP posts:
MadameTricyrtisDefarge · 23/01/2023 09:44

I think it means fancy ones, where you get stripes and whatnot instead of a light bulb.

StephanieSuperpowers · 23/01/2023 09:54

But those tiny bulbs are always going so there's only ever half a working tail light on them.

Kucinghitam · 23/01/2023 10:05

I just think "Oh, car lights" no matter what they look like!

OP posts:
Tricyrtis2022 · 23/01/2023 10:13

I thought new cars had LED lights, so no bulbs.

I've no idea, but I've just seen some fancy ones with half the bulbs out - don't know how new the cars were though.

I don't know either, tbh, but will say that nearly all new cars have lights that are far too bright, mainly because they're badly adjusted.

Saw a friend yesterday who has emailed a few pics of puppy Badger from 5 years ago. Dunno quite what this expression is, or if he has something in his mouth, but it’s veh veh cute.

And here he must be telling a raunchy joke.

MadameDefargeinme · 23/01/2023 13:52

Aww lovely Badger! Please tell me you plan to get another dog and call him Bodger.

MavisMcMinty · 23/01/2023 14:07

No! Badger will be my last dog, I couldn’t get another because I feel it my duty to outlive any pets I have, or at least for me or macman to survive them. I’m 60 this year, Badger and the cats could have another 10 years, which with my bad habits would be quite an achievement for me. Anyway, here’s the third and final photo my friend sent me:

MadameDefargeinme · 23/01/2023 15:32

I hear you on that. Our cats are now 15 and I am turning 73 next month, and I said to my DH that I thought we shouldn't get any more cats after they go. My cats have usually lived to be between 18 and 20 and I'm not convinced I'll be here by then. DH is 80 this year and I doubt he will be here either. He is unconvinced by this argument and maintains we can provide for them in our wills (his DD will probably take them anyway, or my DS) but I'd rather not have to think about that. He says they're good for his mental health though, and that's probably true. He loves them and the cat of ours that is particularly bonded to him spends a lot of time snuggling with him. My cat is less snuggly, but is currently sitting next to my keyboard and headbutting me.

MavisMcMinty · 23/01/2023 16:28

Oh yes, my life would be horribly empty without pets, but I could always foster cats or dogs for as long as I was able.

CyanCrystalViolet · 23/01/2023 16:57

Just caught up on 8 pages, some unexpected plot turns 😵‍💫

I’m researching the effect of livestock expansion on zoonotic diseases but have been procrastinating wildly all day. I need to come up with a dissertation topic and I can’t make up my mind so have been scrolling endlessly instead. The only area I feel I have anything remotely of merit to write about is viruses, particularly zoonotic infections. I need to start looking at some data, feel like I’m shovelling snow uphill with a fork.

angelico53 · 23/01/2023 17:54

That sounds like a fascionationg area, Cyan. Good luck finding a topic.

Whatever it ends up being, I'll bet it'll be excellent! Maybe you could even discreetly share it one day.
