We never managed to get round to putting the Christmas UP so am impressed that you're all taking it down already.

LOL! Some years we keep Christmas up until Twelfth Night. Depends on how the school holidays/weekends fall. This year it'd be a weekday when DDs will already be back at school and DH is going to a college feast... like fuck am I going to be the muggins taking it all down by myself.

How I look forward to the sulking from my daughter when I announce it's time to take down the tree. The resentful compliance and petulant whining sum up my feelings about early January nicely.

Am currently blocked from Twitter pending an appeal against a strike for hateful conduct. My "hateful conduct" was to repeat the statistic cited in this video around the 7 minute mark which states that 47% of trans identifying males within the federal prison system, are in prison for sex crimes. Keep in mind I made this comment in the context of someone claiming trans identifying males in prison are actually victims and no threat to anyone.

Also, I just felt something crawl across my bare foot, which turned out to be a wasp, in my house, in january. Waspy has deen relocated outside.

For anyone who hasn't clicked that to have a look, it's worth watching that bit and the subsequent exchange. That Senator is pretty direct and on the ball. Probably a Rightwing Bad Person though so can be safely discounted.

If you look at the political positions part of his Wikipedia entry, you will see that on all other issues I think he can safely be described as a bad person. No abortions, pro gun, no estate tax or income tax on earnings and savings - money for government (which should be minimal) found on taxes on sales. About as regressive as you can get.

Re-elected last year with a 64% majority, which tells you a lot about the cultural conservatism of his electorate, given that he's an ardent Trump supporter.

Of course there are regular accusations that we must also be bad people since these bad people share our views on this issue but my own take is shame on those who have gifted right wing ideologues with such an open goal with which to attack the Left.

Whenever I am accused on being a felloow traveller with such people I simply ask if the person accusing me os such would have agreed or disagreed with the right wingers who spoke out against the Paedophile Information Exchange back in the days when Labour and other Left Wingers were feting them?

I talked to my daughter yesterday. She is a mum of two young children and a very busy psychotherapist and psychotherapy teacher, and she was strangely clueless about the whole issue. I gave her a few things to think about, but her stance is that the Tories are so bad that she will have to vote Labour to get them out, and sees this as only one issue among many to consider.

I suppose we really ought to move this to "our" other thread on feminism before a prefect spots us talking here and reports us to the head.

Probably best, it's an interesting discussion harking back to some of the recurring themes and it would be a shame to lose it to deletion.

Wrt Twitter, I would gladly have Musk over for lunch and serve him a shit sandwich but I had thought that people being banned for not toeing the TRA line was a thing of the past because "all of the free speech, all of the time". Clearly not. I guess I'll have to add a shite garnish to his shit sandwich. Good for nothing wanker.

A link I saw here the other day to a podcast of guys praising Musk for 'bringing free speech back to Twitter ' (in the context of letting Graham Linehan back) gave me pause for thought. Then there were warm words for Jordan Peterson...

In other news, talk of MOTs made me think I should run a check on the fleet. Alfa, tax and MOT run out end of the month. Bike : MOT expired, er, July... 😯At least it's not parked on the road, so not illegal. So thanks for that, Sinner!

Ultimately, for me, I don't care what ang specific other person thinks about other stuff. It's all very simple.

Can people change sex? No.

Should public policy be designed with the pretence that they can? No.

Is it bad for women if we do make public policy in that way? Yes.

To me, that's all there is to it. If you agree, great. If you also think other things that I think are wrong, as long as it's not illegal, you've every right to campaign and try to win support for your ideas, regardless of what I think of them.

The MIL sounds deranged, demanding her daughter in law's tiny baby overnight twice a week. What a horrible situation.

In theory my new car should be ready before the current one needs its MOT, but the date isn't confirmed and there's a massive backlog for MOTs here. I think I've going to have to book it in as soon as the slots open, and just cancel if I no longer have the car by then.

@duc748 - Is it actually illegal to park a vehicle on the road if it doesn't have an MOT? Asking because there's been a car (possibly legit, maybe dumped, more likely stolen + abandoned) outside our house since mid-December. I've checked and discovered that although it's taxed until March, the MOT runs out in a couple of days. The council website says they're only interested after the road tax runs out. By "interested" they mean don't care, not interested, ever.

What the council prob mean is, when the tax runs out, they'll come along and wheel-clamp it. Which will be no help to you, of course. Have you tried the police?
