Thread 3 - TalkExiles: "The Planet Goes On Being Round"

Continuation of previous lifeboat threads 1 and 2.

Gather here all ye refugees from the JTT Flat Earth Society, welcome to the reassuringly oblate spheroid of MN! Ye all already know the answers to the questions "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

So really we're all here just to chat randomly.

Yeah, had to brush my teeth with my eyes shut!

Ginmonkeyagain · 13/01/2023 16:12

We had tiles like that in our bathroom when we first bought our flat, but they were grey with a scrolly pattern.

Now replaced with white metro tiles and a cobalt blue border at shoulder height.

Tricyrtis2022 · 13/01/2023 16:18

That sounds nice Ginmonkey, I like the white tiles in our bathroom. It was a very dull place before but is now quite bright, with white tiles, two white walls and two rich teal walls.

Tricyrtis2022 · 13/01/2023 16:21

I spent a lot of time frowning at the old tiles and think they were probably designed by an art student and based on an abstract citrus pattern. It's the sort of thing we were encouraged to come up with when I was an art student.

Britinme · 13/01/2023 16:28

May be even earlier than 1984 - we had similar ones (except in turquoise with a turquoise bath and sink) in the bathroom of our first house, bought in 1975. I do hope a fad for retro-chic doesn't bring them back again.

Ginmonkeyagain · 13/01/2023 16:37

@Tricyrtis2022 It is nice - it is a tiny room so the white really opens up the space (we have tiles all the walls as it is teeny tiny and does not have an extractor fan so we did not want to be constantly dealing with damp paint work.

We also had horrid "slate effect" floor tiles that were a bugger to clan and always looked dirty. We replaced those with black and white "chess board" tiles.

The only mistake is we went for white grout for the wall tiles rather than the grey the plumber recommended, so i spend a lot of time cleaning the grout around the bath.

Tricyrtis2022 · 13/01/2023 16:43

@Ginmonkeyagain, that sounds vexing. I'm sure I've seen stuff you can paint over grout to change the colour. Is that worth checking out?

Tricyrtis2022 · 13/01/2023 16:45

@Britinme, yes you're probably right, it was pre-1984. I was a student in the late 70s and we spent a fair bit of time coming up with abstract designs based on fruit, seed pods and whatnot.

SinnerBoy · 13/01/2023 16:51

My wife came in to -criticise- give advice on my work. Apparently, I shouldn't have taken the tiles off the wall joining the bathroom, as she's changed her mind again an it is getting knocked through.

I still need the tiles off, as the wall doesn't lift out!

SinnerBoy · 13/01/2023 16:51

-criticise-

Tricyrtis2022 · 13/01/2023 16:55

Have you been told, Sinner?

SinnerBoy · 13/01/2023 16:58

I have now. The original plan was to take it out, but then she decided against it. And then for it, but without mentioning it to me.

Tricyrtis2022 · 13/01/2023 17:10

It's a bit rubbish when you launch into a job you believe needs doing and then get told off. I've had that a few times.

Kucinghitam · 13/01/2023 17:12

How frustrating, @SinnerBoy.

We're nearly at the end of this thread, by the way, so I will start a new one.

Kucinghitam · 13/01/2023 17:18

OK, new thread here for when this one fills up. I've kept the same title.

SinnerBoy · 13/01/2023 19:15

Yes, but the tiles needed to be pulled off anyway! It'll make the inside of the bathroom easier, as I'll be able to kick it through.

MavisMcMinty · 13/01/2023 19:45

Oooh, bathroom tiles! These are mine, inherited with the house when we bought it 24 years ago x the vendors were a bit apologetic, but macman had done a similar tiled lighthouse beam all the way round the bathroom in my flat, so we loved it, and I still love it. I’d have to tidy the bathroom to show you the whole mosaic, but it’s an octopus in a sea wave, these are its legs, its unseen head is a round mirror.

Sorry the x is supposed to be a -.

Winterborne74 · 13/01/2023 21:31

I love the mosaic!

Britinme · 13/01/2023 21:39

That mosaic is fabulous.

mach2 · 13/01/2023 21:49

The Mosaic - is that like The Matrix but for metropolitan liberal elites? 😆

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 14/01/2023 21:27

What a gorgeous mosaic, and purple and yellow are colours that I don't think normally go together but those particular shades really do.

MissLawls · 17/01/2023 12:34

Morning. Is there another talk exiles thread or are we going to leave it now?
