This awful winter virus

Anyone else suffering?

My immediate family, half my wider family and loads of friends seem to have the exact same evil virus.

Fatigue, congestion, headache, insomnia (partly because can't breath through nose), hunger evolving to a runny nose, sore throat and cough.

Honestly it's worse than covid and doesn't seem to go. OK it's only been 5 days but it feels much longer as I've been awake so much.

Pretty sure it's the same virus for my relatives, even though they live 40, 60 and 150 miles away.

I'm also reasonably sure my winter colds have not usually been this bad, though to be fair I can't remember that well as it was pre covid.

One of my kids has it. Never seen him so ill in his entire life. The headache is so bad he can’t bear light, can’t look at his phone and can’t sleep. I am praying for it to go.

I have random terrible pain in my muscles after very little exercise. Either I have had huge muscle wastage in the last month or I also am a little under the weather.

Mine turned into a sinus infection. Antibiotics prescribed yesterday and feeling a lot better already. Doctor said they have seen a lot of similar in the last few weeks.

CrackersCheeseAndWinePlease · 10/12/2022 09:18

I'm a lot better now, still got the cough and a slight headache but loads better than I was.
Hope everyone feels better soon

2 weeks in still have cough and sore throat, which has resulted in no voice

Sparkletastic · 10/12/2022 09:30

5 weeks in and still have the cough

Sisisimone · 10/12/2022 09:34

Day 12 today. Its turned into a sinus infection which I thought had improved yesterday but is worse again today. This is hands down the worst virus I've had in my life. Feel like it will never end.

warofthemonstertrucks · 10/12/2022 09:37

I've woken up worse again today. Happy birthday to me. All plans cancelled. So fed up. And literally covered in snot.

BudgeUpAnne · 10/12/2022 09:55

2 weeks in. Worsened a lot after day 7 with crippling headaches and a stream of neverending snot. Went to GP on day 11 who suspected sinus infection. Have been on amoxicillin for 3 days and seen a notable reduction in snot generation but the headache has been clinging on with a vengeance, still need a few days more of antibiotics to alleviate the head I think.

Missed one Xmas party already, I have another 2 in the next 7 days plus my child's Nativity plus a job interview which I have already postponed once from a few days ago. If I have to cancel again I'm going to have to tell them to withdraw my application.

If anyone is in the first stage of the virus and you have green/yellow snot, bad breath, squeaky ears when you blow your nose and a banging headache, get on to the GP now to request antibiotics before it takes too much of a hold.

warofthemonstertrucks · 10/12/2022 09:57

Well that's us it described me to a T. I can't even get through on the phone to my bloody Dr. Nightmare.

Welshy26 · 10/12/2022 10:53

If you can't get a Drs appointment, there will be prescribing pharmacists you can book an appointment with who can give you antibiotics. That's how I got mine on Thursday. 4 chemists in a 3 mile radius of me have prescribing pharmacists. Just call your chemists and ask if they have a prescribing pharmacist.

OakTreex · 10/12/2022 12:50

Mine started back in November and turned to sinusitis.

Never got a doctor's appointment and now, almost a month later, I'm on the first day I've had where I haven't yet had to use Sudofed to breathe through the never ending dark green snot!

Sounds like a lot of us have had the same thing that's turned into sinusitis

warofthemonstertrucks · 10/12/2022 14:34

Thanks Welshy I'll give it a go.

SnuggleBuggleBoo · 10/12/2022 22:58

Oh great. After 2 weeks of this I'm now developing conjunctivitis.

toomuchlaundry · 11/12/2022 01:47

Anyone’s oxygen levels dipping under 95%

constantindigestion · 11/12/2022 02:31

We've got here in Malaysia...

Pumpkin20222 · 11/12/2022 05:53

Over a week of this. Getting better during the day as I am up and doing things, with a horrible sinus headache. Awake in the night feeling sick. It is weird, a cold that is as rough as flu.

best wishes for us all to feel better soon.

Remmy123 · 11/12/2022 06:09

I've had it for a week now - totally fed up Abd depresssed as stopping me from organising Christmas and so far my kids have no presents!

headasche / chills have stopped but they were bad/ so snotty / dry cough / green snot now wuth blood as blowing so much

started a new job and hadc ti be off sick 🥲

mach2 · 11/12/2022 10:11

A friend's lad is just coming out of it. He had a week off school, which is very unusual. Thankfully, he seems to have beaten it in a relatively short time.

Comedycook · 11/12/2022 10:13

Yes, I'm so behind with Christmas prep. First my kids had it one after the other so we had over a week off school...then I got it and was wiped out for a week. I basically lost three weeks to it! Now I've got one week left while they're at school and the shops will be manic! Hope you are better soon

Sisisimone · 11/12/2022 10:30

Has anyone else with sinusitis lost their sense of smell? It's only ever happened to me before with covid (and returned v quickly) but it's gone again when the sinusitis hit. Covid was an absolute breeze compared to this virus.

IamSamantha · 11/12/2022 10:54

I lost smell and taste but apparently its not covid. I'm coming out the other side slowly but exactly like covid if I do too much I pay for it the next day.

It's so similar in presentation to covid there must be a link but the T line says no.

MistletoeMouse · 11/12/2022 13:00

I have the exact same thing you're all describing. As well as zero sense of smell and taste.

I've been testing vivid covid positive since it all kicked off.

Weird.

Welshy26 · 11/12/2022 13:24

Day 11. No sense of smell or taste. Buckets of snot. Deaf in ear. Rattly cough.

GratefulCheddar · 11/12/2022 13:46

@Sisisimone Me I have sinusitis and no taste or smell. I have had covid and didn’t have the loss though stuff tasted weird. I’m on day 14 and getting pretty down about it. I have had sinusitis before, I had three days of only being able to mouth breathe so my throat got dried out as well.

SnuggleBuggleBoo · 11/12/2022 13:55

My colleague who I've been working closely with and got it from me is now testing positive for Covid. So looks like it is that here, despite me testing negative. I wonder if it's because my test kits were quite old? Around 18 months or so I think. Would that make a difference?

Has this thing absolutely scrambled anyone else's brain? I'm so incoherent, keep scrambling up what I want to say!
