This awful winter virus

Anyone else suffering?

My immediate family, half my wider family and loads of friends seem to have the exact same evil virus.

Fatigue, congestion, headache, insomnia (partly because can't breath through nose), hunger evolving to a runny nose, sore throat and cough.

Honestly it's worse than covid and doesn't seem to go. OK it's only been 5 days but it feels much longer as I've been awake so much.

Pretty sure it's the same virus for my relatives, even though they live 40, 60 and 150 miles away.

I'm also reasonably sure my winter colds have not usually been this bad, though to be fair I can't remember that well as it was pre covid.

Same here- started quite mild and thought I could battle on but have had to take the past two days off work as the coughing is totally and utterly relentless. Horrible!

I've not tried night nurse. Might get some tomorrow if I'm well enough.
I've had loads of lemsip max but it doesn't seem to do much.

Lemsio max has phenylephrine in, a stimulant I think.

ElEmEnOhPee · 06/12/2022 20:26

I've had it about a week now and still got it, friend has had it 8 days, sister and her kids have all got it too. Worse than covid for me, I've been having heart palpatations too is anyone else getting that with this virus?

Did you all have COVID before? There is a theory that COVID has affected the immune system so subsequent colds etc are experienced as worse.

Dogsgottabone · 06/12/2022 20:30

Feel dreadful.
Nausea, diarrhea, cough, cold (like pneumatic sneezing and pouring nose) dizziness, total exhaustion.

Like a cross between covid and flu. Have spent 3 days in bed and felt a bit better today but floored again and feel nauseous now.

Am usually a big eater but I have no appetite. All the family have had it.

I had covid before but post vaccination so fairly mild, not sure if post vaccination makes a difference to effect on immune system or not though 🤔

Yes to the heart palpitations! I got my finger monitor out last night and my bpm was super fast.

CottonSock · 06/12/2022 20:32

I've been sweating in bed with a fever for 24 hours despite all the medication I can take. Main other symptom is a cough, but it's the temperature that's grim.
Negative covid
I've had a flu vaccine

Somewhat reassuring that it's not just me with the heart palpitations but sorry you're experiencing those too. It's started to frighten me but I've cut out caffeine today and found that's helped a little.

CottonSock · 06/12/2022 20:36

I'm hunting my cupboards for an old stash of nightnurse right now. Last night I'd taken paracetamol already do couldn't have any.

mach2 · 06/12/2022 20:41

I had mild covid in April. Then a revolting cold kicked me like a mule in autumn. I felt really bad for 3 days and pretty crap for another 4 days. My voice was affected for another 2 to 3 weeks.

User135644 · 06/12/2022 20:41

People not going into the office sick didn't last long did it? No wonder everyone comes down with it.

surreygirl1987 · 06/12/2022 20:42

Yes!! My husband and I both have it - I think we got it from our little boy. It's horrific. I think it night be the worse I've ever felt, including covid. I'd describe it as flu-like. The temperature made me feel horrendous, and the throat was like razors.

toomuchlaundry · 06/12/2022 20:43

I’ve got this. Testing negative. As far as I know I have never had COVID. Meant to be having my booster soon but assume I can’t have it now

Ontobetterthings · 06/12/2022 20:44

Same here. We have all been ill with it for a week. One day I was totally floored and couldn't get out of bed. What was worrying was I've had the flu vaccine. I wonder if it would have been worse of I hadn't

I've had it twice plus 4 jabs. This is definitely the worst cold/flu virus I've had.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 06/12/2022 20:47

I've got this. I'm so bored of it; it just won't go away! My immune system is iffy anyway thanks to having Crohn's. The phlegm is both phenomenal and disgusting. Sore throat, headache and sneezing all the time. I'm also suffering a racing heart. Nose looks like Rudolph's 🤒

Italiandreams · 06/12/2022 20:48

Same here, and a 4 year old and a baby who is not sleeping through so completely on our knees.

Gazelda · 06/12/2022 20:49

I'm fully jabbed and boosted. Had covid bad in 2020 and then a milder version in 21.

I've had this cold since Sunday. Really sore throat, exhaustion, aching all over, no appetite and today it's turned into a cough. I've now come out in hives all over.

I've not long been diagnosed with a few other minor health issues, so this is just putting the cherry on the cake. ☹️

EllaPaella · 06/12/2022 20:51

I'm week 3 now and only just starting to turn a corner with the cough today. The cough has been awful - hacking and barking and not able to sleep because of it. Then it went to my sinuses and I had face ache and felt lightheaded and so tired for a few days as well. I haven't felt right in what feels like forever!

Gagaandgag · 06/12/2022 20:53

Omg yes we just all had this 😭😭😭

My kids have got this. Both had a cough for 2 weeks which seemed to get better then went a lot worse. It's turned into a chest infection for both of them so they are both on antibiotics.
The youngest ones ears are full and sore, possibly infected but too much wax to see.
The whole of their school seem to have/had it.

NeverTooLateToSing · 06/12/2022 20:55

Yep, I've got this. Caught it from my son, and - for us at least - it's flu, Influenza A. They swabbed him at A&E to check, and once they found what it was they moved us into an isolation room pronto.

I've had my flu jab, and was all smug that I wasn't catching it. Then I started what felt like a light cold. And it's just got worse and worse every day since then. I haven't felt this ill since ... I last had flu, 23 years ago!

TheMousePipes · 06/12/2022 20:57

It’s the cough that’s killing me - nothing touches it. I’ve had a low grade fever for days and this cough is just utterly grim. Banging headache (I assume from the coughing) and my lungs feel like dry crackly bags. Everyone here seems to have it too.
