We haven't here.
It still doesn't feel cold enough in the house for me. Although ours neighbours is on (which probably keeps us warmer).

OP posts:

Twice so far. We're having work done and the house is very draughty. I was cold from the inside out! We're in NI though and live in an exposed area, so we'll soon have to have it on regularly.

Well if it doesn't feel cold enough for you, then crack on. It is 20c in many places in the very south of the UK today. In other places it is considerably colder.

I don't see why it has to turn into some sort of competition though. You do you.

PinkSyCo · 18/10/2022 08:26

I haven’t. It’s still very mild here in the SE, and I seldom put mine on before November anyway. Temperature in house is 19.2 degrees, I’ve got a t-shirt on and am about to hang the washing out while the sun’s out. 🌞

ToastAndBeans · 18/10/2022 08:27

In the NW, we thankfully haven't needed to put the heating on yet. Temperature indoors around 19-20, trying to hold out till at least November before it goes on.

I'm menopausal so lots of hot flashes for me regardless!

AngelsWithSilverWings · 18/10/2022 08:29

No we've not had ours on yet. We live on the Essex coast and it's been fairly mild with only the odd cooler day.

I make sure the south facing shutters are all fully open on sunny days and it makes a huge difference. We otherwise just have the top half open and the bottom sections shut for privacy.

In the evening we cosy up under fleecy throws and eventually we will start using the wood stove. The teenage DC haven't once mentioned their bedrooms being cold of an evening and DS has a window open almost constantly too.

The temp in the house has been a constant 18.5 over the past few weeks with no heating on and we have been quite comfortable with that.

I can't see us switching the heating on until I notice the house getting that cold damp feeling and even then I'm going to keep it on as low as possible.

Crabwoman · 18/10/2022 08:33

Only once for an hour last week as the boiler was getting serviced. Wanted to check the heating still worked!

He did say most people haven't turned it on yet.

confusedofengland · 18/10/2022 08:34

We haven't, we're in Essex. Daytimes are fine, first thing & last thing it gets a bit cold but we put on extra layers. I am struggling with drying washing though!

We go away on Sunday for a week, I think it will have to go on once we're back. Even then, we only ever have it on for an hour in the morning, hour after school & hour in the evening.

mamabear715 · 18/10/2022 08:34

Didn't seem to me like @MsMiaWallace was making it a competition, @FamilyTreeBuilder ?

Anyways, no, no heating on here yet, 2006 mid town house - I guess well insulated & as OP says, I guess our neighbours will keep us warm!
We are oop North.

Lcb123 · 18/10/2022 08:35

Defo not in London it’s so mild. 21 degrees in our flat!

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 18/10/2022 08:36

Heating kicks in for a bit in the morning but with a south facing flat and the sunny mild days we've been having not in the evening. I use a halogen heater if Im chilly. Still using the summer duvet, as well.

sanityisamyth · 18/10/2022 08:36

Nope. South Wales and the windows are still open. Not putting the heating on at all, ever. I only have electric heaters. The first year I used them my electricity bills went from £55 to £135 a month. Ridiculous. I've bought Oodies now instead.

mamabear715 · 18/10/2022 08:37

Just checked my thermostat out of curiosity, @Lcb123 18.2 in here, with a window open just a crack. Pretty good for this time of year! :-)

Haybo26 · 18/10/2022 08:37

Got mine on for an hour boost this morning as its 4 degrees here.

mamabear715 · 18/10/2022 08:38

4, @Haybo26 ? Bloody HELL!

JudgeRindersMinder · 18/10/2022 08:38

East coast of Scotland here and no heating due to building work just now! So glad it’s almost finished as I’m in bed by 7.30 wearing all of my clothes under my oodie!

Same! In the south-east…

LT2 · 18/10/2022 08:39

Nope, not yet. Still nowhere near cold enough. Yesterday I was at home in a t-shirt. Possibly the one perk of living in a mid-terrace.. keeps warmer! My mum's detached is freezing!!

FayeGovan · 18/10/2022 08:39

Im guessing oop north isn't Scotland. Its cold damp and dreary here. I dont know why i click on these threads, if i was in SE my heating wouldn't be on either.

Overoptimistix · 18/10/2022 08:40

It's pretty warm in East Anglia too, I have windows open for airing too. There have been a couple of days when it's started to feel a little bit chillier but incredibly mild this week so hopefully won't have to turn it on before November! I'm still getting the washing dry outside so I don't think it's just me being warm-blooded.

MissyB1 · 18/10/2022 08:40

We are managing without so far. It’s not that freezing here (Gloucestershire). Aiming to get to November before we put it on. In the evenings we are under our throws on the settee.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 18/10/2022 08:15

Me - it has been freakishly mild here. Yesterday I thought I was having hot flushes, then I realised I was wearing a big jumper (because it is mid October) and it was 19°.

😀Me too! I must have been brain dead because I spent an hour wondering what was wrong with me and whether I was coming down with something, then realised that I was sat working in a warm jumper (which, to be fair had been necessary the day before and for the morning dog walk at 6:30am!)

Yep it is 4C here and foggy as well. House is at 18.5C as yesterday was sunny and warmed the house to 22C (no heat on). But if the fog doesn’t clear, will have to put heat on to boost warmth in the house. I’m disabled and cannot go below 18C with my medical condition. Well, I mean I probably could for a bit and just huddle in bed, but the danger then is not being able to move.

hairyunicorn · 18/10/2022 08:41

no not yet, i brought a Oodie in the hopes of keeping the heating off for as long as possible

Vapeyvapevape · 18/10/2022 08:41

We normally have the house way too hot in the winter with the heating wacked up to 26 sometimes 28. I'm holding out and tbh I quite like it colder, it means I get ready quicker in the morning 😀

WeAreTheHeroes · 18/10/2022 08:42

Derbyshire here - no central heating on yet, but we've had the stove lit in the living room most evenings it's been cold.
