We haven't here.
It still doesn't feel cold enough in the house for me. Although ours neighbours is on (which probably keeps us warmer).

I've just put mine on as it was 15 in my lounge and inside humidity is about 70% according to my Nest thermostat. Quite enjoying hearing the house creaking away! I've turned down loads of the radiators though and totally overhauled the Nest schedule though - last year the thermostat was set at 20 from about 3:30pm till 9:30pm and at 19 from 6:30 to 9am. I've just put it to 16 between 7 and 8am and 19 between 7 and 8pm. Will see how that goes for a bit.

BobbyBobbyBobby · 03/11/2022 19:42

No heating on here.

RaininSummer · 03/11/2022 21:22

Getting tempted. Just on 17 degrees here. Under my blanket and wearing my long coatigan but my nose and hands are freezing and my toes and knees are hurting. Water bottle in bed shortly but will probably crack at the weekend.

sanityisamyth · 03/11/2022 23:06

Refusing to ever use the heaters again. I still have the windows open (South Wales) and just in thin PJs and duvet. I bought Oodies for when it starts getting cold.

Come back in Jan/Feb when your house is cold and mouldy and tell us you still haven't put the heating on.

Normally I'd have put the heating on in mid October twice a day and turned it off for a few days when it was warm last week. We've had it on twice so far this year, this morning being one of those times as it is really cold here. We had a wood burner installed and have heated only the living room in the evenings as needed this winter.

KangarooKenny · 04/11/2022 08:29

My thermostat is set at 15* and it came in yesterday and this morning.

StarCourt · 04/11/2022 08:32

still no heating on here but i've had the towel rail on a couple of times

EsmeShelby · 04/11/2022 08:34

It's 4 degrees outside but still holding off. It's sunny so the house will warm up later in the day.

Ragwort · 04/11/2022 08:47

Yes ! We usually put it on in October but we lasted until November and then put it on (on a timer and not overnight) ... lovely to be warm again .. I kept kidding myself that it was cosy with blankets and hot water bottles but am genuinely so much more comfortable now .. and appreciate that we are lucky to be able to afford it ... have turned the thermostat down to 19 though.

MsMiaWallace · 04/11/2022 09:27

Not put ours on yet!
In fact I've hung washing out this morning

Still not on, but gas fire in use a few evenings a week. Yesterday was the first day I'd describe as chilly though.

mamabear715 · 04/11/2022 09:32

Not yet. I pop my dressing gown on over my clothes if it's nippy in the mornings. (Yorkshire)

emmathedilemma · 04/11/2022 09:39

I've put mine back on after it went off the timer morning and it was still below 18 and that's just too cold for WFH. The car windscreen was frozen first thing this morning but hopefully it will warm up with the sun out.

Solosunrise · 04/11/2022 10:17

When we say heating, do we only mean central heating?
There's a number of posters saying they haven't put the heating on, followed by: but we have a log fire or but Ive popped the gas fire on.
In my world, those things are heating!

I can't figure out how to change my thermostat or time so ours comes on twice a day if it drops below 17c in the house, but the couple of occasions it has, we've turned it off again as it's very mild where we are in our terraced house in the South East. We still have windows open.

I really feel for those of you who are cold ❄

RaininSummer · 04/11/2022 10:44

I agree it's misleading if you are using some form of heating and saying this.

Bathtubbathing · 04/11/2022 10:46

Gave in last night. I didn't want to take my coat off when I got in from work, so that told me it was time.

WhiskersPete · 04/11/2022 10:47

First frost here this morning. Thermostat was set to 15 degrees and central heating came on for 15 mins and it cost 52p on the smart meter.

Going to be a chilly winter.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 04/11/2022 11:21

Nope, Midlands here and it hasn't been cold out until this week. Indoors is fine if you dress appropriately, warm slippers and socks, thick jumper.

I have used a fleece blanket a few evenings and we have the winter duvet out but not the snuggly fitted sheet.

Have used the dehumidifier for a couple of hours a day this week but no heating yet.

We're all electric so we're used to waiting to turn on the heating.

Some calculations were made on other thread, that first hour is the most expensive one, because boiler needs to "warm up". I noticed it on my smart meter too. It's crazy though, we both work in the office, so no heating on during the day, heating is on for 1-1.5h max, we cook at home (but nothing fancy that requires putting oven on for 3 hours) and by the end of day it's showing us £5 charge. I dread to think how much we are going to pay during colder months when heating on for an hour won't be enough...

We’ve only got central heating. I did notice a bit of a temperature drop yesterday; enough to put a pair of socks on but still nowhere near chilly enough to put the heating on. I’m wfh today in a t shirt and bare feet and am still really warm (south east).

SignOnTheWindow · 04/11/2022 13:23

Ours is now set to come on at 14 degrees. It clicked on for about an hour once during that first cold snap, but not since.
Last year I'd feel cold if the house was under 20, but this year we've adapted gradually.

fussychica · 04/11/2022 14:02

Just got back from a warm holiday abroad but have so far resisted putting any heating on. Used a heated throw last night but didn't really need it, it's new so was just trying it out and it was very toasty.
Conservatory is in the sun until about now and it's lovely out there so have washing drying in there.
I expect we'll crack soon if we have a few days without sunshine.

DahliaMacNamara · 04/11/2022 14:04

No, we haven't had the heating on yet, other than to test it was actually working when the boiler was serviced. No fires or any other source of heat in the house. DH is working from home today with the window slightly ajar in a north-facing room. I'm trying to adjust to a cooler ambient environment and build up payments on the gas account, so that the direct debits plus a credit balance will cover heating when it gets properly cold in the winter. I don't intend to freeze in January, but equally don't want to be in a debit situation in April when the price cap changes.

sanityisamyth · 04/11/2022 20:30

@WeAreTheHeroes Come back in Jan/Feb when your house is cold and mouldy and tell us you still haven't put the heating on.

It's not my house, it's a rented first floor flat, with electric heaters. I put them on in the first year I lived here and my monthly bill went from £55 a month to £135. The only difference was the heaters. With the cost of electricity now it has priced me out. If the landlord doesn't want mouldy walls (which were damp even in the summer), then he should have put proper central heating in. As it is, my kitchen ceiling has holes in as the upstairs flat had a leak and my landlord CBA to mend that.

pilates · 04/11/2022 20:45

Yes first time tonight. It was lovely 😊
