Top story on Daily Mail website shows Khloe Kardashian in a hospital bed with her newborn son. Only problem is she used a surrogate. They've just changed the headline and I'm kicking myself for not screenshotting it before.

The original was: ''He's a beautiful gift': Khloe Kardashian is shown giving birth to her son with Tristan Thompson' and then the article states they used a surrogate.

They've now changed it, obviously in recognition of the fact she didn't give birth. It's dreadful.

I was at a friends who was watching the episode this features in this morning. The birthing mother wasn’t shown at all (just the baby being born but I expect that’s to respect the woman’s privacy as much as their own.) There was also a conversation between Kim and Khloe where Kim was talking about her experience with a surrogate birth where she said the birthing mother has her own bed and room to
recover in and there is a separate room and bed where she, Kim, could be with the baby. I expect it’s the same set up. Don’t forget they give birth in a very expensive private LA hospital so I’m sure there is no shortage in beds and they haven’t turfed any pregnant or just given birth women out of bed.

I dont see anything wrong with it. It's her child, shes in hospital meeting the baby, I'd use a bed for comfort too. She's obviously not given birth recently as full make up and dressed, so not making out she is the birth mother. The surrogate probably doesn't want to be in the papers with all the publicity either, so may have requested to not be photographed or named.

Her sister Kim needed to use a surrogate as it was too dangerous for her medically, perhaps Khloe is the same.

I didn't care about their cosmetic surgery and makeup, even if it did make them look like the Dolmio puppet family. That's their affair. Didn't care about them being media hungry either. That's their job.

But renting a womb, commissioning a baby, erasing the surrogate mother and the realities of her experience and posing in a hospital bed as if that cost and reality was hers...that's deplorable.

Pregnancy carries a risk for everyone. What other medical condition makes it OK to buy and rent bodies?

Well they've used her eggs for the surrogate. She could have had IVF to help with conception.
But no, the option for rich and vacuous Kardashians is to rent a womb. Its nauseating

I don't entirely understand the argument against surrogates (although I don't like the trend for celebrities to use them for convenience if there is no medical need). They are also autonomous individuals capable of making informed decisions, will have been told about the risks, and decided it's worth it for them. I appreciate there are issues of power imbalance and equity with surrogates mainly coming from poor backgrounds, and needing the money, but I'm not sure if that makes it inherently wrong. Any more than deciding to do a job that was physically dangerous because you needed the money is inherently wrong.

I don’t like how the surrogate is referred to in this article though. She really is made to sound like a body and nothing else.
