A pp mentioned the surrogacy story of the Locke-Lockes (?!) that's featured in the last few seasons of Made in Chelsea and how it's been framed as "WE are going around for another round of IVF".
Honestly, the way the story has been depicted in that show has made me very uncomfortable. Their "journey" has been blindly trotted out as a sad yet ultimately inspirational narrative with apparently no regard to the fact that this is actually a very contentious practice. I doubt producers gave this any thought at all. It's all just gushing support and sympathy.
I'm not saying it is not heartbreaking for the guys, it must be. But there is zero sensitivity about the controversial nature of the practice. It's only plaudits and pity. And that's not even going into how the story has been framed to put the Locke-Lockes at the centre, completely reducing the surrogate's role as if she was a mere vessel to their plight to become parents (as PP was mentioning).
