I really like how dignified and fitting it is. Not too mawkish and over emoting. The restraint is very beautiful.

Oh yes, This. Very much this. It is quite beautiful.

Behind the gun carriage:
Escort Party of the Household Cavalry: Escort Commander • Field Officer of the Escort • Standard Coverer • Sovereign's Standard of the Royal Navy • Trumpeter

Royal Family: The Earl of Wessex and Forfar • The Duke of York • The Princess Royal • The King • Peter Phillips • The Duke of Sussex • The Prince of Wales • Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence • The Duke of Gloucester • The Earl of Snowdon

Royal Car 1: The Queen Consort • The Princess of Wales
Royal Car 2: The Duchess of Sussex • The Countess of Wessex and Forfar
Royal Car 3: Princess Beatrice • Princess Eugenie

Tht explains why Beatrice and Eugenie left their rows before their husbands and others.

I wonder if Zara is with them as she was with the two princesses at the abbey door

Andante57 · 19/09/2022 12:37

Re the March played as the procession left the Abbey:

The ‘Beethoven Funeral March’ was formerly attributed to the German Romantic composer, as WoO Anhang 13. But now, it is believed to be by Johann Heinrich Walch, a German conductor, chamber musician and choral master for the Duke of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg

It’s in B flat minor - obviously a funeral March would be in a minor key.

RedDwarfGarbagePod · 19/09/2022 12:37

The people with their phones out absolutely baffle me. Like a) you can capture the entire thing on a camera anyway, when so much of this is about the atmosphere, and b) anybody wants to see their shitty phone footage when they could just watch it on TV, filmed by actual professionals who are at the best angles and using the best equipment.

XXV · 19/09/2022 12:37

Driving this slowly in a procession must take some skill.

PizzaFunghi · 19/09/2022 12:37

Presumably when they list who is in each car, they also mean husbands and children as appropriate? (Ie Louise and James with Sophie and Meghan, and Beatrice and Eugenies husbands in with them?)

I like this March, this sounds like the Beethoven again maybe

Bretonbear · 19/09/2022 12:37

Benefi · 19/09/2022 12:34

I won’t speak about this subject anymore today. You've said that twice already.

😂

tactum · 19/09/2022 12:37

Did anyone else notice Beatrice and Eugenie left before the coffin was carried out? Seemed a bit odd, they were the only ones. Maybe they didn't want to see her carried away? Their husbands stayed

Fuckitydoodah · 19/09/2022 12:38

I wish people would put their bloody phones away. It's a funeral not a Harry Styles concert. There will be plenty of videos and pictures online for years to come.

LIZS · 19/09/2022 12:38

@LetMeSpeak the Crown Jewels go back to the Tower from Windsor to await the Coronation.

Mounties look fab. I also like that most of the "wheelers" - the ones closest to the coffin just in front of it- are female. In horse drawn carriage teams the leaders are the flashy ones and the wheelers are the strongest ones I think.

I thought they might have had a riderless horse from the Household Cavalry in the procession behind the coffin but I can't see one.

HenryHooverIsMyDH · 19/09/2022 12:38

MiceInTgeHouse · 19/09/2022 12:36

Does anyone know if the Mounties are on their own horses?

They were donated to the Queen by Canada and live here apparently

SpinCityBlues · 19/09/2022 12:38

RoachTheHorse · 19/09/2022 12:35

This is beautiful. Centuries of finely honed tradition and ceremony immaculately executed.

Yes, the procession is really fascinating and impressive.

Ilikecheeseontoast · 19/09/2022 12:39

over2021 · 19/09/2022 12:31

Why do people go out to watch it through their fucking phones screens? If you want to watch it on a screen stay at home- the gravity must be completely lost on those worrying so much about holding their phone up to film the ongoings constantly.

I wish I'd gone up- it doesn't look as busy as I'd expected it to be.

I totally agree. Bloody idiots. Why film it? They can rewatch it on the tv afterwards surely . So little respect.

PizzaFunghi · 19/09/2022 12:39

But Zara not in a car?

rocketfromthecrypt · 19/09/2022 12:39

The numbers allowed to stand along the route were heavily restricted. If it looks sparse in some places it's because of those restrictions. I was in London on Wednesday and the restrictions were already in place.

LIZS · 19/09/2022 12:39

Duke of Gloucester is 78, all credit to him walking behind.

MossGrowsFat · 19/09/2022 12:39

I can't quote but did grin at the broken arm Swan joke.

Love the marching through the arch

weddingDecliner · 19/09/2022 12:39

MiceInTgeHouse · 19/09/2022 12:36

Does anyone know if the Mounties are on their own horses?

I think so- I have not seen those horses before
Prior to the jubilee the horses were coming down our road for several days as they were all being exercised. They were being kept in Hyde Park I think and being taken up to Horseguards to practice. Older people in military uniform were riding them- assume helping with the exercise.

Jellykat · 19/09/2022 12:39

Thats a squeeze

CousinKrispy · 19/09/2022 12:39

I'm no royalist but this is pretty amazing. Very beautifully done.

QuebecBagnet · 19/09/2022 12:39

The footsteps sound amazing through the arch.
