The sand hasnt covered all of the route though so I dont understand how its for the marching or the gun carriage

It is on the turns and any uneven patches like cobbles.

Yes. The King’s actual birthday is in February and the weather is inclined to be inclement at that time of year. The monarchs official birthday is celebrated at a time when weather is likely to be better.

Charles’ birthday is in November.

The Kings Birthday is November 14th not February

This is so absolutely breathtaking. Absolutely wonderful, from all involved

Sorry if this has been answered already but what is the sand for? To stop them slipping/absorb something from the horses??

It only appears to be on the corners so I presume it's to stop the carriage sliding.

BruceAndNosh · 19/09/2022 12:47

Huw Edwards was struggling in his commentary before the funeral - he kept slipping a Her Majesty's in instead of His Majesty's. Must be so difficult!

I think so- I have not seen those horses before
Prior to the jubilee the horses were coming down our road for several days as they were all being exercised. They were being kept in Hyde Park I think and being taken up to Horseguards to practice. Older people in military uniform were riding them- assume helping with the exercise.

The mountie on the news this morning said they're not their own horses

Joystir59 · 19/09/2022 12:48

knew it would happen, my arse of a JRT struck up a barking volley at the start of the two mins silence.

cakeorwine · 19/09/2022 12:49

That's got to be so hard to march at that pace for such a long distance.

Jellykat · 19/09/2022 12:49

That drummers arms will ache like buggery tomorrow

Random question, why are the sailors holding hands?

Do you mean with the gun carriage? The ones behind are holding onto ropes of some kind to act as brakes as the carriage has none, if thats who you meant

HideTheCroissants · 19/09/2022 12:49

Delabruche · 19/09/2022 12:46

It's in November.

Apologies I was muddled with the late Queens ascension.

Freedomfighters · 19/09/2022 12:49

This is so moving and powerful.

Vapeyvapevape · 19/09/2022 12:49

That drummer is doing well to keep time for so long.

Posting again, this details all the uniforms and representatives in the procession and who is standing where.

Thank you for this. Not British so was very confused about what all the uniforms mean.

elizaregina · 19/09/2022 12:49

Charlottes hat!! They both look adorable.

Bouledeneige · 19/09/2022 12:49

Must be very weird being in those fish tanks of cars being stared at by the public

MarshaBradyo · 19/09/2022 12:49

London is spectacular with all this

So much intricate thought has gone into it all too

bellac11 · 19/09/2022 12:48

The mountie on the news this morning said they're not their own horses

Thats interesting. They look quite small horses.

JustLyra · 19/09/2022 12:50

Only Sophie and Meghan in car two and only the York Princesses in car three.

Bouledeneige · 19/09/2022 12:46

The sailors are linking arms because they are pulling the gun carriage with the coffin on it

So is to help them keep in step with each other / balance the load as with the men carrying the coffin arms around shoulders?

LIZS · 19/09/2022 12:50

DillonPanthersTexas · 19/09/2022 12:46

Impressed with the lads keeping the orb on the coffin balanced.

It seems to have some sort of support from underneath, like the crown and the sceptre has brackets

KosherDill · 19/09/2022 12:50

I wonder how the orb is affixed. Would some alteration have been made to the bottom of it?

Vapeyvapevape · 19/09/2022 12:50

Random question, why are the sailors holding hands

If it's good enough for H&M 😊

Benefi · 19/09/2022 12:51

That's got to be so hard to march at that pace for such a long distance.

Yes, such an unnatural gait too.
