The pony has made me cry 😢

Me too, with the grooms wearing black arm bands.

FetlocksBlowingInTheWind · 19/09/2022 15:48

I dont know anything about horses, what do you do if your horse decides it's not going to behave itself? Do you leave the procession somehow before the horse majorly kicks off? Or are thse horses so well behaved that that just never happens? They're so big, I imagine one could dk a lot of damage if it had a mind to

There have been occasions where horses have ditched their riders and buggered off back to barracks! Think it might have been Kate and Williams wedding? One fell at the jubilee a few months ago because it was pratting about and lost its footing!
If they choose not to behave there is not an awful lot you can do about it!

Oh the pony 😭😭

Vapeyvapevape · 19/09/2022 15:49

The pony has done it for me 😭

Genvonklinkerhoffen · 19/09/2022 15:49

@pinkyponkyplink red is Blues and Royals, white is Lifeguards. (Their farriers have black ones). They make up the household cavalry which, combined with the five regiments of foot guards makes the household division.

The horses are incredibly highly trained before they’re let loose on public parades so none of these are novices. However they are sentient beings and have off days like the best of us. If a horse doesn’t want to do something, you can’t force it. At Trooping of the Colour the naughty ones are quietly taken out of the parade but there’s limited scope to do that here so it’s “kick on” and hope for the best!

Isn't that why they use the Navy to pull the gun carriage?

I think I read that during Queen Victoria's funeral one of the horses reared up & couldn't be calmed down so the Navy took over & pulled it - hence the tradition.

Aw! Emma the pony!

That got me too!

MajesticWhine · 19/09/2022 15:50

Thought I was done with crying until... Emma 😭

excelledyourself · 19/09/2022 15:50

That wee perfectly timed stamp from Emma the pony ❤️

frasersmummy · 19/09/2022 15:51

Everyone involved today must be absolutely exhausted... mentally and physically.

Benefi · 19/09/2022 15:51

I do hope all of these household staff are looked after.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 19/09/2022 15:51

Oh Emma with her special saddle on and no rider just made me have a little cry!

The groom apparently refused to retire before the Queen. This may be his last working day.

Yes I read two members of the Navy had to run up and stabilise the coffin so that's why they pulled the hearse today.

This slow walking must be more tiring than normal walking

Museya15 · 19/09/2022 15:53

Now I never cried the whole time since her death but seeing Emma the pony, it's all just hit me that she has truly gone!😢

LuluBlakey1 · 19/09/2022 15:54

This is so much more personal

And with all the marching on the spot. This walk is so deceptive I thought it would be much shorter.

It is. And they have to March with arms reversed so basically one arm behind their back supporting the gun. They’ll be exhausted by the end I think

Yet they're still in perfect step.

Skodacool · 19/09/2022 15:55

Some very dodgy knees and hips on that procession

KenAdams · 19/09/2022 15:56

Omg the corgis
