When are you putting your heating on this year?

Just that really. Our thermostat is always on 17. It's now 15 in the house. Might turn it on? Seems early though.

We're on an older fixed tariff, thank goodness.

Our thermostat is set at 17. I'm just laid in bed and heard the heating click on! I've just lowered the thermostat temp yo 15 as it doesn't feel cold enough to need it yet

couchcritter · 17/09/2022 07:14

Honestly? Whenever we both really want it, no fixed date or anything.

But we're waiting as long as possible. Last year we got used to cooler temperatures slowly and got down to about 15° without needing jumpers/layers etc, so I'm hopeful we'll adjust again. (I appreciate not everyone can do this.)

autumn1610 · 17/09/2022 07:15

Probably October/November. Not find temperatures too bad at the minute

Darkness22 · 17/09/2022 07:17

God knows!! It's bloody cold though, and I'm rubbish at cold.

Filleto · 17/09/2022 07:17

When it feels too cold to manage without it. Most rooms in our house are still 19/20 degrees so definitely not needed here yet

Strugglingtodomybest · 17/09/2022 07:18

I was thinking about this yesterday. I reckon we'll be able to get to October at least without switching it on. We're still opening the windows because it's so warm, so nowhere near needing it on yet.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 17/09/2022 07:19

It was 4 degrees here last night. Hot water bottles deployed and if I had brought the fire lighters with us, a fire would have been lit. Instead made do with hot water bottle and duvets. Joys of being on holiday and believing the weather forecast. Brrrrrr

MarshaBradyo · 17/09/2022 07:19

Still 20 degrees in the house although 7 outside

Not needed yet

RampantIvy · 17/09/2022 07:20

When it becomes uncomfortably cold. Our thermostat is set at 18 degrees, and the heating comes on according to the temperature not the calendar.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 17/09/2022 07:21

I'm still sleeping with windows open and my back door is open all day while someone is in
.for the 1st time in months my fan next to my bed didnt go on and that's literally been on for months unless I leave the bedroom for long periods
I'm in london though and I'ts not that cold , maybe a jumper weather yesterday but no more
I try to hold out til October and its going to climb up to 21 degrees by mid next week so temperature is good

Klank · 17/09/2022 07:22

When it’s cold it’s cold. If you wouldn’t tolerate 15° in November, why would you tolerate it in September?

Our heating has been off over the summer, and we have turned the thermostat down from what it was set at last winter, but it is cold this morning, much colder than the setting on the thermostat, so we have turned the heating on.

HotDogKetchup · 17/09/2022 07:24

Our house is still around 19. I usually have the thermostat on at 15 - although the whole system is off from the summer.

RedRobyn2021 · 17/09/2022 07:24

I just put mine on this morning

Blowyourowntrumpet · 17/09/2022 07:25

When I'm cold

SophieJo · 17/09/2022 07:25

Trying to hold out as long as possible. It’s 18deg at the moment and we sleep with the window open, not for much longer though. Summer duvet still on.

Hbh17 · 17/09/2022 07:26

When it's cold. It has nothing to do with a date on the calendar.

5zeds · 17/09/2022 07:26

its really early and too warm for us to have the heating on. Still over 20 inside. We have a wood burner so that will go on if it gets nippy but I doubt heating will be on before late November. Weirdly I think we tend to use ours longer into the year than other people, but not in the autumn much.

3WildOnes · 17/09/2022 07:27

When the house dips below 18 in the day and 15 at night, then I will put it on.

DeathMetalMum · 17/09/2022 07:27

As late as possible, we're on a fix until end of September and still don't have details of what our tarrif will be.

I'm usually the one to be cold and reach to put it on (despite wearing several layers) so I'm going to sit tight this year. I already managed to reduce our usage over spring time so can definitely cut it out. I've got my slippers and fleecy blankets out, it was 16 when I first woke this morning but was OK in my dressing gown. The sun should warm the house up nicely today.

daffodilandtulip · 17/09/2022 07:28

Thermostat is set to 15, the night setting that remained since last winter - I hadn't even thought about it. It woke me up at 4am, and I had to go and turn it down...so not yet! Although I was very tempted last evening.

I don't have a set date and I've never scrimped with heating before but I'm sure I've not had it on this early before!

OrangeSamphire · 17/09/2022 07:29

It was 14 degrees outside last night and still 20/21 during the days and sunny so we are nowhere near heating yet.

Appreciate that could change quickly if the weather shifts.

So not until the outside evening temp dips to around 8 I’d say. That is usually around the end of October.

It’s still t-shirt weather with a cardigan for evenings here (south west).

Mommabear20 · 17/09/2022 07:29

This year it'll be whenever the DC (2&1) are cold with a jumper on, or when baby is born, whichever is first 😂 DH and I both happy to wear multiple layers before putting the heating on and dogs grow their fur out to keep them warm.

DeathMetalMum · 17/09/2022 07:29

Uts definitely turned this last few days though. I have only just shut the majority of windows upstairs.

SquigglePigs · 17/09/2022 07:31

Ours got turned on yesterday now the temp has started to drop. It's on a pretty low thermostat temp for now so isn't likely to kick in much but it is on.

ScampiFlies · 17/09/2022 07:32

Probably soonish, in the mornings only though. The boiler is old and poorly maintained and in the middle of a long service so hopefully it will come out the other side.
We'll switch to thicker duvets this weekend though.
