Just that really. Our thermostat is always on 17. It's now 15 in the house. Might turn it on? Seems early though.

We're on an older fixed tariff, thank goodness.

I lit a fire tonight. It’s nine degrees outside and dropped to 15 in the house.

I had left over wood from last winter.

trying to keep the central heating off until November

TheTeddyBears · 17/09/2022 21:39

Had ours on this morning when thermostat was at 18. It's set to come on when it goes below 20 but we haven't put the timer on yet. It got warm quickly then I was too hot 🙈 You don't need it on for very long at this time of year to take the cold off the room.

ListenLinda · 18/09/2022 06:42

My kitchen is 15 degrees, living room 17.9 currently.

But can’t put the heating on even if I wanted to currently.

Blankscreen · 18/09/2022 07:04

It's really cold here this morning in the south east 5 degrees according to my car.

Our house feels cold!

The thermostat is in the hall and say it's 16 degrees. I've just put it on for an hour to the DC can get you and not feel cold

RampantIvy · 18/09/2022 08:28

I have caved and put it on this morning. In my defence DH is seriously underweight due to a health issue and feels the cold really badly. And it is cold here this morning.

BruhWhy · 18/09/2022 08:32

I'm still enjoying being able to sit in my living room without feeling like I'm being used as Satan's buttplug.

It's beautiful outside, nice and crisp and cool. Inside we're wearing socks and using blankets on the sofa.

Probably won't turn the heating on until there's a hard frost.

Knittynanna · 18/09/2022 08:33

This morning. Proper chilly when I went downstairs at 6.30am.

plinkplinkfizzer · 18/09/2022 08:33

I would have liked to because I have health conditions that will affect if I'm cold but I'm too scared my DD will go up by more than I can pay 😞 I will just have to grin and bear it .

Silverpossum · 18/09/2022 08:37

We put the heating on holiday mode months ago so it doesn't turn on. We are aiming for Nov but if the daytime temp inside drops below 17 before then we will turn it on.

Redruby2020 · 18/09/2022 08:43

I don't have a thermostat apparently i am the only one without one. Been putting it off as long as possible, but feel i am going to have to use it soon.

Curlyshabtree · 18/09/2022 08:43

December, which is normal for us. Gas fire in lounge may go on for half hour if needed but blankets will be deployed first.

Starpeople · 18/09/2022 08:47

Ours isn't on a timer at the moment and we will just put it on when it's really cold, and extra layers aren't remedying it! If we do put it on a timer in the depths of winter we will switch radiators off in some of the rooms.

HideTheCroissants · 18/09/2022 08:53

Just to show some more difference around the country, we sleep with our bedroom window open and this morning at 8:00 am it was 21 degrees in the bedroom and 22 degrees downstairs. We definitely don’t need the heating to come on in SE London. We are planning on a walk along the Thames path later so will take jackets as it can get cooler there.

AllThatAndMore · 18/09/2022 08:55

My husband turned it on yesterday for an hour . I was like NOOOOOO lol. It’s only September! It’s too early to give in.

RampantIvy · 18/09/2022 09:06

It's "warmed up" to 10 degrees outside now.

Florenz · 18/09/2022 09:08

When the clocks go back.

CornishGem1975 · 18/09/2022 09:11

I never put it on before October, last year it was almost November. Really depends on the weather outside though doesn't it.

PaperMonster · 18/09/2022 09:12

When it’s cold. We’re all electric so no central heating. Usually goes on mid October.

FunsizedandFabulous · 18/09/2022 09:24

Our freeholder still hasn't installed new windows, so there will be a draft again this winter. Despite the odd gust our flat generally stays warm enough without heating until it nears zero outside. This year we'll only put it on if we're still cold after putting on our thermal jimjams and covering our legs with a blanket, so probably not much at all.

DelilahBucket · 18/09/2022 09:27

Yesterday. It was just too cold. I still went to bed so cold I couldn't sleep. I've never been that cold in bed. I had to resort to putting my dressing gown over the duvet and blanket. It may only be September but we can't control the weather.

MojoJojo71 · 18/09/2022 09:31

I put mine on for a couple of hours last night as even with a jumper on I was too cold. Thankfully I’m still on a fixed tariff so don’t have to worry too much about cost just yet but I’ve never liked to put it on unless I really have to.

RomeoOscarXrayIndigoEcho · 18/09/2022 10:28

Windy, costal east of Scotland here - thermostat set to 15°c. Temperature in coldest part of house currently 19.5°c. Windows open elsewhere.

Temp outside is 12°c

Hoping to wait till late in October before the heating goes on

House was built in 1988/89 so relatively well insulated. We've made a few home improvements along those lines previously but they were to be green. Added benefit of saving money.

Last night I put my slippers on as my feet were a bit chilly. Got too hot within about 30 minutes.

Hope those who feel the cold manage ok. I like being cold. I hate having the heating on.

SommerTen · 18/09/2022 11:10

I put my heating on to 21c just now in order to check that my radiators are all working... well 2 of them aren't on so they have stuck valves!
My dad is coming to try to loosen them off tomorrow.

LimpBiskit · 18/09/2022 11:25

Mine's set to 17 and kicked in yesterday for the first time. I'm just letting it do its thing.

nannybeach · 19/09/2022 10:42

Happy Peach, are you in the UK, or a scandi country.? I've never heard of a 20g,I did recently find out you could get a 1tog,but in the summer it's been air conditioning unit and a duvet cover.
