When are you putting your heating on this year?

Just that really. Our thermostat is always on 17. It's now 15 in the house. Might turn it on? Seems early though.

We're on an older fixed tariff, thank goodness.

Yes it feels like it's gone from needing all the windows open to needing heating in a matter of days hasn't it 😢

Notplayingball · 17/09/2022 07:32

Already on. 21C.

Darkness22 · 17/09/2022 07:33

It's not a date on a calendar, no, it's about the cost of it this year. Obviously. If we can eke out not having it on for longer then we might not go broke.

BlueThursday · 17/09/2022 07:34

We got in at 3am from a night out last weekend and popped it on for an hour but if we’d been asleep I doubt we’d have noticed.

it’s still really warm here (Glasgow) during the day but the nights are getting colder definitely

Animalcrossyroad · 17/09/2022 07:34

I'm trying to hold out as long as possible.

I'll put my hands up to being a bit blasé about our bills in previous winters. Now I'm checking my smart meter daily!

It's felt a bit cold downstairs last few nights after our kids have gone to bed and in previous years I would've put the heater on downstairs. But now I've just been sitting under a blanket and been fine.

thesunwillout · 17/09/2022 07:35

Overnight temps have dropped but I think they're going back up again.

I'll hang on.

tulips27 · 17/09/2022 07:37

Probably will have it on 6 or 7 times max. 😔

sorcerersapprentice · 17/09/2022 07:37

Depends where you are in the country. We're in the SE. It's still too warm for heating

tulips27 · 17/09/2022 07:38

And if people think that I'm exaggerating, that is what I did last winter. (Although that wasn't a very cold winter).

CornishTiger · 17/09/2022 07:38

I’m holding off for now but this September feels a lot colder than usual.

Neverendingdust · 17/09/2022 07:38

We hold off for as long as possible. I have an electric blanket which again will go on when it’s absolutely necessary, simply because the ridges of the heating elements drive me crazy lying on top of them. It doesn’t help sleeping with the windows open either… 🤷🏻‍♀️

CaptainSamCarter · 17/09/2022 07:39

I have a smart thermostat. It's set to 17 between 7am and 8pm and 15 overnight which is the minimum temperature. I'm in Cumbria and we've had a frost. It has clicked on this morning.

CastleTower · 17/09/2022 07:39

We've put it on for a bit to "test out the radiators". 😄

In the NE, so it's 7 outside first thing. Brr.

I’d like to try and get to the first of October, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. DH had wrapped himself in a blanket last night, and he won’t put up with being cold.

Hugasauras · 17/09/2022 07:40

We have ours set up with room thermostats on radiator valves that control themselves individually and have their own timers so they just do their own thing. According to the app, they went on yesterday for 30 mins in the kitchen and have just gone on again this morning in kitchen and playroom, which is 14 degrees at the moment 😱

bbcdefg · 17/09/2022 07:41

When I'm too cold to stick it

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 17/09/2022 07:41

God no I’m not putting it in until end of October- off to buy the kids new dressing gowns later- it’s not that cold it’s just shifted a bit. No way am I putting it on now

TenoringBehind · 17/09/2022 07:41

Aga 10th October (the day it is serviced)
woodburners start of October
actual central heating is fairly ineffective here so only when it gets really cold to take the edge off

WeAreTheHeroes · 17/09/2022 07:41

I've put ours on this morning - it's 3 degrees here and bloody cold. We've had the stove on in our living room most evenings this past week.

Notyetthere · 17/09/2022 07:43

It's 7 degrees outside at the moment. I have switched it on for 1 hour to take the edge off the cold. I then hope the sun will heat up the house nicely for the rest of the day. Got a 14 months and 5 year old.

Polkadotties · 17/09/2022 07:43

I’m in Essex. Outside temperature is 7. Inside temperature is 18, I’ve got my bedroom windows open and my summer duvet on. The house will retain heat for a while.
In winter my thermostat is set to 15 during the day with 17 for a couple of hours in the morning and evening. It’s off overnight

Notplayingball · 17/09/2022 07:43

In Scotland and in single digits when getting up in the morning temperature wise now. Needs a bit of a blast with heat. But will switch off again shortly and be mindful of the costs.

SirChenjins · 17/09/2022 07:43

We’ve already put it on for the odd burst here and there. It was 3.5 degrees on my journey to work yesterday, it’s 7 here this morning according to the forecast but feels colder outside. We’re obviously watching our usage but thank goodness for a fixed tariff.

Gizlotsmum · 17/09/2022 07:43

Ours is set to maintain 18 degrees during the day ( lower over night) it kicked in briefly this morning , but is now off again

Passthecake30 · 17/09/2022 07:44

I’ve only just put the summer duvets back on the bed last night, prior to that we were sleeping under sheets, so hopefully a good while yet. I try to get to 1st Oct here, and then aim to turn off 1st April.
