A thread for those who are not royalist

IF YOU ARE A ROYALIST, DO NOT READ.

I’m getting fed up with all the posts saying we need to show respect blah blah blah.

Well, I don’t care. I won’t be watching the funeral either.

I’ve seen so many memes shared that have made me laugh, but I won’t share them here cos I reckon the thread will get deleted.

So if you aren’t a royalist, come and talk about anything and everything. Share a funny meme. Or something sweet

I’ll start with the sweetest thing I’ve read in whole

That's discusting @tigger1001

Where is your RESPECT the woman gave her life for us and all her money and everythi- oh no wait that's right, she didn't spread the fucking wealth did she? She hid it while the food bank queues for ever longer and people began to die of starvation after being sanctioned.

God love our Queen.

There are some funny Twitter threads about performative grieving.

I feel sorry for those poor folks taking their dead relatives in urns to the queue though. They must be unsound. It’s odd behaviour.

Really odd behaviour, but then anyone who queues up for hours to walk past the coffin of a stranger is bloody odd imo.

OneFrenchEgg · 18/09/2022 20:46

Another one tomorrow isn't there? I've put it in my calendar so I don't upset someone. 11.55 for two minutes.
Nothing open so kids doing homework and I'm dusting off my CV as I fancy a change in job.
Kids have zero interest in it, ones already had a lengthy assembly on a field plus silence so that's them done.

Is anybody doing anything more interesting with there extra day off with everywhere shut? So far I have sleeping and watching bake off on catch up. Would be nice to go out but no idea where

Motorcycleemptyness · 18/09/2022 20:47

I am so glad this lunacy is (hopefully) coming to an end tomorrow. I feel so angry about it all! Almost two weeks of non-stop coverage for the death of a 96 year old woman who spent her life literally dripping in diamonds has absolutely finished me off. I have had a pretty horrible week, and I really don’t think the constant mourn porn is helping.

I mean for christs sakes

Does this mean that Paddington Bear is dead? 😥

x2boys · 18/09/2022 20:51

We will be having a nice roast dinner NOT to respect the Queen you understand, but my kids can experience what Sundays used to be like when I was a kid ,maybe a learning experience for them ?🤣

OneFrenchEgg · 18/09/2022 20:54

I would really like to think that the Royals reach out to people bereaved in terrible circumstances. I've been really thinking about Olivia Pratt-Corbett family and her funeral this week, how very tragic for them compared to the hooha over a 96 year old.

Notmyking · 18/09/2022 20:55

I'm hoping for some nice weather for a long bike ride otherwise a peloton spin class and Netflix awaits!

QueenJaineApproximately · 18/09/2022 22:11

This is a brilliant thread OP thank you for starting it. On the news now there’s people being interviewed lying down all tucked up. It’s all utter bollocks.

ColourMeExhausted · 18/09/2022 22:18

Agree OP. Headlines described Britain as 'reeling' from the news of her death. Erm, 96 year old dying is hardly shocking news and we've been expecting it for years now...

I'm annoyed about tomorrow. Currently I don't work Mondays, youngest DC started school this year so Monday is my day, at least until I start a new job in two month's time. Was looking forward to a long overdue lunch and catch up with a good friend. That's not happening now, instead I'll have DH and DC at home and struggling to think of ways to entertain them. Great.

I think you’re being overly optimistic. There’ll be a loooong post-mortem- who did what, who reacted most gracious/distressed, how George and Charlotte did their Gan-Gan proud, how Meghan and Hazza were snubbed and how he and Wills still want to poke each other’s eyes out with ceremonial swords. Which world leaders said what/looked best/looked worst/looked bored/fell asleep (prob Biden). I swear this whole things has legs and will run and bloody run. How Charles showed he will make the bestest king and how the royalty is in wonderful hands with Wills, Catherine and George next in line etc etc.

Call some of your local coffee shops/play cafes/ soft plays. I've not advertised that I'm open so you wouldn't know unless you rang me so there will be places open too scared of the backlash to announce it so get your partner to take them to one of these :-)

Soubriquet · 19/09/2022 09:07

Our local soft play have announced they are closed…

So some will be

I'm doing some last minute childcare for a friend, excitingly. Had been planning on having people round for some day drinking but ended up moving that to yesterday instead. Gonna go round to my sister's and let the kids run riot later.

OneFrenchEgg · 19/09/2022 09:26

Everything is shut here. Some shops open at 5pm. Kids will be doing homework and I'll just be grumping around the house.

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 19/09/2022 09:28

Two of our local pubs are opening up early and offering food from 10am, in remembrance obv, but even I drew the line at taking the kids in to get pissed in the morning.

dinosaurcookie · 19/09/2022 10:36

Just found this thread as I've been in Ireland for the last few days, non news over there thankfully!
So far today I've done some washing and cleaned the loo, not sure what else to do as it feels like lockdown out there! I'd rather work I think!

OneFrenchEgg · 19/09/2022 10:52

Dh has put the funeral on. I'm just aghast at the whole thing. I guess we need the spectacle to keep the crowds happy. The security cost must be immense, I'm sort of impressed there's been only a couple of incidents.

It's what she would have wanted 😁

I feel her late mother, at least, would be looking on approvingly. She was a complete lush!

HandbagsnGladrags · 19/09/2022 11:02

Am still sat in my PJs bored shirtless and wondering what to do with the day. We'd planned a dog walk and a pub lunch but it's drizzling and miserable.

She loved a Tennant's lager apparently 😂

I certainly don’t think schools should be forcing children to sing the national anthem and stand in silence for two minutes. My sons school did this, he is asd and has sensory processing issues so he could not stand still, he got hauled out by the HT and told off for being disrespectful in front of lots of his peers. He was very 😩 distressed. I thought schools had a secular approach these days and not making kids sing god save the queen.
