IF YOU ARE A ROYALIST, DO NOT READ.

I’m getting fed up with all the posts saying we need to show respect blah blah blah.

Well, I don’t care. I won’t be watching the funeral either.

I’ve seen so many memes shared that have made me laugh, but I won’t share them here cos I reckon the thread will get deleted.

So if you aren’t a royalist, come and talk about anything and everything. Share a funny meme. Or something sweet

I’ll start with the sweetest thing I’ve read in whole

For those who've never seen it - The Windsors is trending on Netflix. Worth a watch for some comedy!

The stage show was brilliant. So glad we saw it.

Does anyone else think it's going to look really odd having people, not horses, pull the gun carriage with the coffin on it, tomorrow? I keep thinking it's a really weird decision

I've also had a number of normally sane people post on my Facebook feed that they will unfriend anyone who says anything anti-Queen. All principles of free speech and democracy gone! It's all gone a bit bonkers

Ironically it would have been better for them all if the Queen had died 20-30 years ago. There would be less of a feeling of permanence and lifelong service about them. Her 70 year reign means they can never be seen to fall short of trying to be as good, as dedicated, as selfless as she was.

🙄

I don't think the monarchy would've survived Charles being installed then, not with how unpopular he was at the time. Twenty or thirty years ago means either the years leading up to or shortly after Diana's death. He needed his mother to hang around for long enough that those memories faded a bit, although even now a lot of people don't think much of him.

I think you are probably right and I do think that public opnion softened a bit after Diana died and he essentially became a single parent his Son,s do appear to love him.

Well that would have been a happy side effect!

Of course it would have survived, there's no mechanism for getting rid of them,

No. It's been the tradition for many generations. A close relative of mine pulled it for the last King. It's a huge honour for young sailors. They essentially have to be Royalist. I'm certainly not, but it's an amazing spectacle.

@sorcerersapprentice, that is truly dreadful, harks to the slavery age IMO.

Can anyone enlighten me how CofE has reconciled Charles being a head of church with his past affair, divorce and civil marriage? Is he still just a widower then in the eyes of CofE?

And normally Mumsnet would be disgusted at a pair of philanderers, but it seems it's a different story if it's a king and his queen consort 🙄

Couldn't care less @LindyLou2020 - they were on the Daily Mail home page for goodness' sake, and were clearly content with public grieving 🤷🏻‍♀️

@YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse
Ah, right - I had no idea about them being in the Daily Mail - thanks for pointing that out.
I thought some random member of the public had taken the photo and put it on something like Twitter or Reddit, or...........Mumsnet!
And I did acknowledge that people who are putting themselves in these crowds, and queues, must accept that they run the risk of being photographed and publicised.
But I do still feel a bit uneasy about them being mocked, even 'though I do not share their feelings and emotions, and that was the point I was trying to make - perhaps not clearly enough

Yes it's all underlining our role as serfs. This whole charade has really made me dislike the institution. Especially the mash up of family and Royal Family. Utter madness that George has been born to live his entire life like the Truman Show. Different willy and womb and it would be me or you.

Wasn't the Cof E church built precisely by the fact that Henry the eighth wanted to divorce and the RC Church didn't recognise this so he started the C of E Church though?
I was brought up as a Roman Catholic, so the C of E Church seems more progressive in some ways to me with female clergy ,homosexual clergy etc .

insidenumber9 · 18/09/2022 12:40

So happy to find this thread. I feel I’m going insane listening to the wall to wall ‘coverage’. Cancelling funerals, people’s hospital appointments, closing food banks? Absolute madness! We really are a pathetic subservient bunch here in England!

All start up again with the ridiculous coronation. Which feels very indulgent when he's already King. Like renewing your vows a year in so you can have a big party.

The Coronation does sound quite indulgent since he became King the minute his mama died.

It is just a Pageant for the Peasants.

x2boys · 18/09/2022 14:47

Yep let's throw the Plebs a few crumbs .

Pemba · 18/09/2022 14:50

I hope so too, its pathetic.

I did shed a tear when the news broke (surprised myself), but I think that was just shock and nostalgia. She's been in place all my life, like most people.

If the BBC had covered the story in a more restrained way I might have put the funeral on or at least the highlights. But the complete load of sycophantic drivel they have had on for over a week is infuriating and actually a bit frightening (what other news is being hidden from us?). So I am going to the countryside to avoid it.

And for the first time I am considering cancelling my licence and giving up the BBC. I used to think they were great, but they are just not doing their job to provide decent news coverage and a balanced picture.

I didn't realise there were so many boot lickers /forelock tuggers amongst us. Like my father (in his 80s). Hopefully it's mainly older people.

greenhousegal · 18/09/2022 14:54

I wonder if they would have the Coronation scaled down big time? Only essential people there by whatever historic nonsense etc. protocol insists upon.

Only immediate family, no guests, dignitaries, celebrities, ambassadors, other royals and whoever else warms their arses on the Abbey pews.

We can wish.. but I don't think the Coronation will be the "event" it once was anymore. A funeral is essential, a Coronation that publicly demonstrates the feudal might of the King over his subjects is not.

It will be interesting as to how the cost of it will be "justified" given that we will probably be in a recession and the cost of living crises as well as the winter energy bills (baring in mind that the coronation will probably not take place until Spring at the earliest), would have pushed many of those "loyal subjects" into poverty.

I wonder what Paddington would make of the Queen’s guards given their bloody big hats are made of bear fur. It’d be a living nightmare for a bear!

Judging by the RF's love of wildlife I wouldn't be surprised if poor Paddington has been shot and stuffed. Or maybe made into a nice rug for Buckingham Palace
