IF YOU ARE A ROYALIST, DO NOT READ.

I’m getting fed up with all the posts saying we need to show respect blah blah blah.

Well, I don’t care. I won’t be watching the funeral either.

I’ve seen so many memes shared that have made me laugh, but I won’t share them here cos I reckon the thread will get deleted.

So if you aren’t a royalist, come and talk about anything and everything. Share a funny meme. Or something sweet

I’ll start with the sweetest thing I’ve read in whole

A thread for those who are not royalist

What gets me is...

There are worse things going on in world and the media are just after 1 thing

What happened to unbiased reporting?

Badtasteflump · 13/09/2022 19:56

I'm with you OP. Sick of my favourite programmes being cancelled and miserable music on the radio. Also sick of hearing/reading about how 'The British People' are feeling devastated/ heartbroken. I'm a British person and I am not heartbroken about the death of a very elderly woman I never met.

I am seething that it seems to have become illegal to peacefully protest against the monarchy - holding up a piece of card with #notmyking written on it warrants you getting dragged away by the Police.

I am also seething that the world seems to have forgiven Andrew the nonce because 'well, he's just lost his mum.'

CaptainSamCarter · 13/09/2022 19:57

DH was due to attend an event this week organised by a government department to promote his business sector. People were flying in from around the world to attend.

It was being held nowhere near London on Thursday this week. So not even the day of the funeral.... It's been cancelled as "a mark of respect."

Can't help thinking that they will be cancelling the Queen's own funeral soon as "a mark of respect"....

You are not allowed to mention how wasteful all the flower laying is. 🤐

I have Monday off now but trying to decide what to do with an unexpected day.

Well everywhere is bloody closed ffs 🙄

Badtasteflump · 13/09/2022 19:59

heartbroken I can assure you HM's body will have no idea where it's being driven or flown around. I agree there's something slightly grim about the whole performance though...

Not a royalist in particular here, but do you really not understand the absolutely massive cultural impact the queen had/that whether you agree with it or not she was a huge icon worldwide? Of course it’s a really really big deal that she died and it’s absolutely nothing like a random 96 year old dying.

But some of just don't care that much ,it ,s the enforced mourning, being told that we are all devastated by her loss
There will be ordinary folk up and down the country right now losing loved one ,s how must they feel having to cope with their own personal loss, whilst having this national period of mourning.

kikisparks · 13/09/2022 20:01

I’m so so sick of everything being “disrespectful”. People were arguing it was disrespectful to have a food bank open on the day of her funeral- you know, that gives food to hungry people. I just don’t understand the mindset at all. I’m not interested in the media coverage and just fed up with it all but it’s really hard to avoid.

IceStationZebra · 13/09/2022 20:01

The waste from the flowers and all the other crap being piled up in the parks and in the streets… hideous.

I will be working on Monday, and need to plan so I don’t get caught out by random shop closures.

ParkheadParadise · 13/09/2022 20:02

I don't know anyone in my immediate family who is interested in this funeral.

WateringCanCan · 13/09/2022 20:02

Yes, thank you for the thread, OP!

It's like living in an episode of Black Mirror, where people are being arrested for shouting a few words at Prince Andrew but no one has been arrested for the shooting of Chris Kaba.

I'm shocked and disappointed at the craziness of it all to be honest.

It's ridiculous, my son has severe autism and learning disabilities, he goes to
a school for children with severe and profound learning disabilities, he has no clue who the Queen is he only has a basic understanding of the world around him, like most of the children ,there ,yet school have sent a let out about supporting the children in their grief its madness .

Badtasteflump · 13/09/2022 20:06

Urgh sorry for messy link...

Daydreambeliever1175 · 13/09/2022 20:07

When people have lost loved ones at young ages, or have disabled children will never be able to speak or experience the world as we know it - it really puts it into perspective.
She was 96! Not 26 as my Aunt was when she lost her battle with cancer.

Yes my cousin died of cancer at 24 ,the Queen dying is not a tragedy .

LadyKenya · 13/09/2022 20:08

It is getting absurd the amount of filler on the news. I have no problem with them showing old programmes of the Queen's life on tv, but all the talking to people who once may have seen the Queen walk past when they were 6 years old is getting tiresome.

I know exactly what you mean. I have an adult son who is very severely disabled and he has never known who the Queen is either.

So true

My dd was murdered at 23. I'm pissed off listening to this crap. She was 96 and lived a privileged life.

As far as I'm concerned a monarchy is political. Therefore every pro should be balanced. After every mention they should have to say 'other political systems are available'.

So bored of all this .

I don't know anyone in my immediate family who is interested in this funeral.

Snap!

In fact, a general dislike of the Royal Family is one of very few things my family can agree on. I have two uncles who've joined the Scientologists and a white nationalist group respectively, so it's a fairly diminished list.

sittingonacornflake · 13/09/2022 20:16

I just hope it isn't a wet day because about the only option for something to do is a walk or the beach.

Ok, I don’t know how to this more plainly but. I. Don’t. Care.

What I cannot understand is why the Queen's nearest and dearest have to accompany her body where ever it is going before the funeral.None of them are spring chickens but are expected to appear in public while at the same time timegrieving for their mother.

TambourineOfRepentance · 13/09/2022 20:21

Try as the BBC might, a death doesn't make for great rolling news. There's some potentially interesting things which could happen as a result of this but the only thing I've actually picked up from the news in the last few days is that I'm stuck on an island with a load of emotional incontinents.
