I’m not a royalist by any means but I do feel sad with the queens passing, she seemed a lovely old lady and like many has been a constant all throughout my life…

But OMG I cannot get over than literally 48 hours ago she was still doing duties and standing shaking Liz’s hand looking though frail, smiley and every bit the part, just how?!

She really was incredible.

I didn’t think the mark on her hand looked like a bruise so much as mottling skin. But it’s her face that gets me, so warm with such a big smile.

it’s proper upset me that photo, she looks like a little granny waving you off after you’ve been for tea. such a strong lady. ❤️

Friars23 · 09/09/2022 01:54

I too agree with those saying her death hasn’t felt it has come out the blue. She has been unable to participate in a fair few engagements this past year including some of the Jubilee engagements. . I thought too it was unusual that she didn’t return to Buckingham Palace to receive the new PM suggesting she was not well.

One thing I have noticed is she has smiled a lot more in public in the last year or so. Perhaps she thought stuff it I will smile in my remaining time on earth.

Nat6999 · 09/09/2022 01:55

I wonder if she had been on steroids earlier in the year, maybe around the time of the Jubilee, her face was quite puffy & looked to have shrunk on the pictures from Tuesday. The bruise on her hand could have come from a blood transfusion if the rumours are true that she had bone cancer.

oakleaffy · 09/09/2022 01:57

A friend told me a lovely story about the Queen at a Garden Party..It Brought tears to my eyes.
Suffice to say, the Queen was a very humane woman.
I feel very sad that her grandson, Harry was estranged from his grandmother , I'd not be surprised if Harry really suffers after the loss of his Grandmother ,especially if he couldn't have got to Balmoral in time to say 'Goodbye'.
The Queen must have been extremely saddened over the estrangement, too.

I have just read her annual trip to Balmoral usually lasts to end of September/start of October so perhaps I was wrong to say I thought it was unusual she didn’t return to BP to receive the new PM. They say she loved Balmoral so it seems a fitting place for her last day on earth.

Aussiegirl123456 · 09/09/2022 02:22

That final photograph of her is just beautiful yet so bittersweet. She had a glint in her eye. She had so much integrity, keeping her word and serving until death. She wholeheartedly deserves to Rest In Peace.
I am not a royalist but I feel so grateful that she was monarch in my lifetime. Sounds weird and so corny, but she truly is inspirational.

Harry wasn't estranged from the Queen. He's reportedly estranged from his brother (according to tabloids that is but it's likely true), maybe he's estranged or on bad terms with his dad who knows. Not his grandmother. By all accounts they remained close and spoke often. Harry mentioned last year that the Queen knows how to use Zoom and that she used to do Zoom calls to watch Archie running around. The Queen attended Lili's birthday party so they were obviously not estranged.

None of them were there to say goodbye, were they, apart from maybe Charles?

Imagine having to spend your penultimate full day on this earth with Boris Johnson Sad

Oh chips this made me howl!!! 😂

Lurkerlot · 09/09/2022 02:44

When I saw the pictures of her and truss, I thought how frail she looked and how she had lost so much weight.

I also noticed the massive bruise in the back of her hand, could be a warfarin bleed, or where she has had some sort of ‘line’ in her vein. I thought she’s not going to make Christmas. But this quickly…. No

stealtheatingtunnocks · 09/09/2022 02:51

I thought the photo was two women enjoying a moment.

”I dragged him up here so he’d have to stand where he
lied To me about poroging parliament, Liz, and then I commanded him to feck orf”

I don't think we'll ever see that sense of duty or commitment to service again.

I saw the bruise on her hand and immediately thought cannula. But I also saw the gleam in her eyes. I'm pretty sure she wanted to be there.

I too suspect a stroke or heart attack last night which was a game changer.

RIP a hugely impressive woman.

It might not have been a cannula in the back of her hand that caused the hematoma. I have similar bruises in the same place and I remember my dad did as well in his later years. Elderly people are easily bruised in those areas. I cannot imagine a medical professional thinking it would be a good idea to put a cannula in the back of my hand. The skin is so thin and easily bruised in the area that I get my IV's in the crook of my elbow.

I can't describe how astonished I am that the Queen kept working up until she died. She must have been in so much pain and totally exhausted.

PhilomenaPringle · 09/09/2022 03:32

we can't compare her in any way to your average 96 yr old in terms of ability to pose nicely for a photo

So true. My 95 year old mil is 'kept going' by very expensive carers, which she can ill afford. She refuses to come and live with us. She has just about enough money to keep her going for the next 4 months .After that, who knows?

There is no more money forthcoming. We, her children have said we will contribute when the money runs out. But all of us will be strapped if we do that.
None of us can afford it.

I doubt the Queen had any significant money worries. But that's just down to luck, I suppose.

It's a momentous historical occasion. And I'm touched by that.

Flatandhappy · 09/09/2022 03:49

I was also really struck by the fact that she was working a couple of days ago, her death at that age is hardly unexpected but it did seem a bit surprising that the end came so quickly after all. The last photos I saw were lovely.

I am not in the UK and am definitely not a Royalist but had great admiration for the woman. I wish Charles all the best too, at the rate that family is going he could have a good twenty years as King.

OutOntheTilez · 09/09/2022 03:53

So very sad.

Condolences from the U.S. Flowers She was a remarkable lady.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 09/09/2022 05:09

She did promise she doing never abdicate as it was her duty to be our queen, and she kept that promise. I found her to be a remarkable woman.
Regardless of her money, it's still a hell of a lot for any 96 year old to do. I doubt when most people aren't well, they'd fancy an engagement like that or even simply people doing their hair and makeup.

Friars23 · 09/09/2022 05:15

The Queen attended Lili's birthday party so they were obviously not estranged.

@TheWheeledAvenger, the Queen didn’t attend Lilibet’s 1st birthday party on the Saturday 4 June but she did meet her on the previous Thursday.

70billionthnamechange · 08/09/2022 22:02

I'm gonna be telling my pathetic staff who can't turn up for a shift and they're young and healthy. Puts them to shame.

I imagine they don't get paid quite as much as the queen did though.

BurnDownTheDiscoHangTheDJ · 09/09/2022 05:33

I think she was waiting for Johnson to go so that he didn't make some wiffle-waffle, florid speech about her full of puns, allusions to Greek mythology and mad metaphors. I'm glad she can't have been in too much pain as she looked smiley, if frail in that picture from 6th September. I am also thrilled that she waited until BoJo the Clown was no longer PM because he would have fucking loved to have made the dead Queen speech mentioned above. Nice one, Lizzie. Rest in peace.

SpinCityBlues · 09/09/2022 05:41

I like the idea that she hung on to see out Johnson so he couldn’t have a lead role in ‘the arrangements’.

I am now realising what a huge effort Tuesday must have been.

Bemoredog · 09/09/2022 05:44

I agree with a pp. In the picture of her leaning on her stick, she looks unwell. Her eyes look poorly and her hand is black and blue.

Her work ethic was admirable and whilst I'm not a Liz Truss fan, I'm so glad she met the Queen and took over the Tory party. The thought of Borsi giving a bumblin,g insincere speech about the Queen, would have been awful. He partied through lockdown whilst she sat alone at her husband's funeral. . Boris is not worthy of speaking of her.

jennakong · 09/09/2022 05:47

OnceRuralNowUrbanbliss · 08/09/2022 22:09

This is the biggest headf*ck seeing her smiley on Tues then gone today. I can't abide Truss but do feel for her being the last public person to shake her hand.

Do you suppose it was a stroke or heart attack in her sleep which took her. I like to think so. That she never saw her concerned and sad children gathered by her at the end that she had a nice normal evening then never woke up.

She totally was a boss legend.

Yes, it does seem that way. May have been discovered very ill by her staff yesterday morning.

Aberdeen is 50 miles from Balmoral so I guess the doctors might have decided she would not make the journey. Dying in an ambulance or helicopter en route would have been horrendous and so horribly inappropriate for the monarch. They've just decided to make her comfortable, as they kept repeating.

ThePontiacBandit · 08/09/2022 22:00

I don’t feel like it’s out of the blue. I think there’s been hints she hasn’t been well for a long time. Less royal duties, seen in public less, vague excuses…I wonder if she had been ill for some time. I do think she powered through to see her 70th jubilee celebrations and possibly Boris go! The picture of her shaking Liz Truss’ hand shows a big bruise on the right. I had a bruise like that after I had a cannula in my hand..I wonder if they gave her some fluids in the days before she met Liz…consummate professional to the end. I hope she didn’t suffer to do that meeting. Hope she’s at peace now.

I don't think it's out of the blue either. We all know she's been doing less and less Royal duties and that she's been ill.
I'm only surprised that she lasted so long as I think once Prince Philip died she really went downhill health wise.
Absolutely incredible that she was only working two days before she died. Amazing woman.

iloveeverykindofcat · 09/09/2022 05:54

People who live to a great age (even older than 96) are usually fairly active until the end. That's the pattern. It's even true in other mammals. If you look at the Blue Zone studies, its not just about people living into their 90s/100+, the point is that they're pretty well and active into their 90s, going about, social engaged, walking outdoors, etc.

daisychain01 · 09/09/2022 05:59

Playplayaway · 08/09/2022 21:54

Yes it's amazing looking at that photo of her. She does look genuinely happy. I expect the corgies weren't too far away.

I wonder if the corgis knew. Dogs are immensely intuitive.

i too love the fact that she met her obligation, she devoted her entire life to the service of this country, to her last breathe until she could give no more. The only thing that stopped her in her tracks was what happened yesterday at about 4.20pm or whatever it was.

RudsyFarmer · 09/09/2022 06:09

That got me too 😭

What an incredible sense of duty she had. I’m so sorry she had to endure the royal family being marred by Andrew and Harry at the end. Very,, very sad.
